Hi Chaps,

just wondering what the output of my 2001 RX300 is, reason being is that I have always believed it to be 198 bhp but looking at the US owners club site they put it at 220bhp, with the 2003- model dropping to 201 bhp!

Ive also just been looking on the TowCar.info site and they also put it at 220bhp, its also rated at 220 bhp on wikipedia,

so chaps,which is it?

I await your explanations !

cheers Jason

Duncan, not usually differences in equipment (injectors, heads etc) between territories just minor calibration tweaks, to much trouble to homologate for every country individually.

US figures are higher because the engine is tested bare ie no AC, alternator, PSP, air/vac pumps even water pumps! They all sap power, but here in europe they are tested "built up" although not with ancilleries like AC running.

Difference between BHP/PS/Net/Gross ratings.

So different territories different ways of measuring as well. I was not suggesting homologating for each country but nonetheless the USA is rather more than a country in the manner you simply because of size. What effects can the likes of California with its air quality demands have compared with say UK or even Japan?

Well California is a unique example (as of course it would be) there are 49 state emissions and the 50th state.......California. UK and Japan are much the same as the 49 states in a broad sense, but with minor tweaks to calibration for unique circumstances such as altitude (South America is a good case). As for cold and heat, virtually all vehicles are calibrated to cope with all extremes as standard from cold starts at -40C in Finland to hot soak at +50C in Death Valley, everything from a Fiesta to a Range Rover will cope, they have to we are not going to build special editions for differing climates.

California also has the new 2012 regs for a mandate for manufacturers to sell hybrid and full electric vehicles, we have yet to see how this is going to pan out!
