If I were to import a car from Ireland to the UK, would I have to put a british plate on it, if its got irish mot would i have to get a british mot and if its got tax would i have to get british tax????

Also I may have couple of grand to spend on an Late Ls400 soon, so if anyone wants to sell me a late one 99-2000 do let me know.

If you are permanently importing it it's yes,yes and yes same as the IOM ( there's not even an MOT requirement there!)

Yes, contact the DVLA, they will sort you out.

The DVLA.org will tell you what to do - I would check before you buy, especially insurance etc. If you are a UK resident you have to register the car here as soon as you import it. If you are a visitor you can use a foreign registered car here for 6 months in any 12 provided it is legal in the country it is registered in.

2 MOT

3 Local dvla office with paperwork £70 + road tax (a few years ago so the £70 fee might have gone up a bit)

Quite straight forward.

You must keep the car for a year after import or you will have to pay import duty. Mark

Why do our customs authorities still insist if your bringing more that a cartoon of fags and a box of wine you must be a modern day pirate. Do you know what the personal allowance is? they ask, Yes, as much as I can fit into my car and my sons car behind me as there are no allowances anymore its all one market.
