Lexus Gs450H Radio & Cd Player/changer Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone could provide some assistance with my confusion.

I have literally just bought a 56 GS450h. It has the Mark leveson sound system, with sat nav, cd, cassete and radio.

After driving home from London where i had bought the car from, I realised there was a problem with the radio.

I was able to search for channels but couldnt find any, it just carried on searching.

I initally thought i must not be using it correctly so didnt bother questioning it.

The next morning while parked in my drive, i decided to load cds into the changer. Again this was not working but was displaying on the screen. The two lights to the side of where you place the cd did not light up either.

So i tested the cassete player which was working fine and was able to listen to those amazing mark leveson speakers.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the correct direction. Could it be a fuse?

I did contact the previous owner but he was not of any help and just said he never tried using the radio or cd before, so he baisically told me its my problem now and he could not help. So now i have one of those belkin cassettes that have a wire which plugs into my Iphone , which im using as a source of entertainment. but its just not the same. Please Help!!

Hi, sorry to here about your problem, I wouldn’t think it
was a fuse other wise nothing would work.

Have you tried searching for radio frequencies manually?

To load a CD you have to press the” load “button and wait
for the green light to flash before putting in the CD, does the green light
flash?

Sorry I cant be of any more help.

@wendle

Thanks for you reply.

Well i tried everything it said in the manual and had no luck i also tried manually tuning the radio but this didnt work either.

I can't see where the atenna is or wether these have one, so do they have an antenna?

The antenna could be why you are having problems with the
radio but that doesn’t explain why the CD player doesn’t seem to be working.

I do believe that the heated rear window elements double up
as the radio antenna, but how the radio is connected to them I don’t know, I think
the radio amp is in the boot, so that may be a good place to start.

2 ariel feeds into the back of the unit,1 sat nav other aerial, quite easy to remove comlpete unit to check, yes the HRW element is the aerial.

No the lights dont flash :(

And the radio doesn't tune manually.

Today i checked all the fuses but they were fine.

I removed the headunit to see if there was any wires which had disconnected but nothing. It was surprisngly easy to remove.

So im still not any closer to working out why its not working. I'll have to get a professional to have a look or might have to replace the unit.

I have absolutely the same problem. When I start the car and after 10-15 mins if I open and close the driver's window - the same problem: No Sound; I can search the radio stations, but not find any; if I try to listen CD - only flashing the number of the disk ......
If I lock and leave the car for more than 2-3 hours - All working perfect again. If I open and close the driver's window again (10-15 mins after inignition) - the same - Sound missing, can't tune stations .....

I've taken the car to the Local Toyota/Lexus service - 3 hours tests, searching for the problem .... - 30 GBP and no result.
Please help.
P.S. I am from Bulgaria - The car was in TM Auto - the official Lexus service for Bulgaria.

You could try connecting a audio source to AUX plug (in center armrest) and selecting input AUX pressing cd changer button, if you hear sound from that source (ie a mp3 player or phone headphone output) may be there is a fault in radio-cd pre-amp section.

Being an expensive system, better ask a audio repairer to fix it. Else, if AUX input works, you can at least use the excellent mark levinson amp.
