Timing Belt Just Done. But What Is This?

Im freaking out! i was just going through the old parts the garage gave me back and this was amongst them? Picture below. I just had timing belt, water pump and 3 aux belts replaced but this thing sure wasnt in any of the boxes of new parts! so why would my mechanic take it off and not put it back? and what is it?

It looks like one of the mechanics tools to me.

That's nothing to do with timing or belts ect, looks like a random bit of scrap or as above could be a tool for locking camshafts?????

its part of the timing belt adjuster

Yeah, it is a couple of these parts (one bit out of each pic still, still joined together)

It's the sprung part behind the timing belt tensioner. You'll have had a new one in the kit.

haha thanks for this. I was freaking out thinking my engine was missing something and was going to go bang at any time lol. I just dont remember ever seeing it in the kit tbh
