Mapping

whats the score with getting an is200 mapped as i have seen some for sale that state they have been remapped but as far as im aweare these things run on a kind of fuzzy logic were they self learn so end up dropping the new map out of the system.

Exactly right. They have a set of rules, and they self learn depending on fuel types, how they're driven etc and readjust to fit those rules. So little to no point getting them mapped

so these so called remapped cars are talking bull then .

we dyno and map cars on a daily basis and a few of our mappers have said it not a case of it carnt be done but the case of keeping it done .

There is very little advantage to trying to remap a naturally aspirated engine as remapping usually changes the settings to give more boost on the turbocharger with corresponding fuel changes.... As it is all you can do with an IS is to dump more fuel into the engine, adjust the timing or to alter the operation of the variable valve timing.... Very few benefits for lots of potential damage

no real point in getting a remap unless you have made changes, i.e. an intake, remove pre-cats and new exhaust. Even then you are talking about a very minor performance increase, the IS200 engine just doesn't respond to mods well.

Also as the ECU cannot be programmed itself you need a piggyback which is either constantly fighting with the pre-programmed map in the ECU or has to feed incorrect values into the ECU to fool it. Not a very efficient or flexible situation.

i know the ins and outs of what mapping does and what can be gained/lost from it as it is apart of my job what i was trying to ascertain was wether or not the factory ecu could be mapped.

it seems not .

would love the force feed the IS but 2k is out of my price range .
