Higer Than Expected Fuel Consumption

Recommended Posts

Just hit half a tank with the majority of driving going to Warwickshire and back for the LOC meet, not bad considering I normally struggle to get 170. I reckon i could get 250 if it was 100% motorway

Well its a nice surprise when i do so much urban driving and on a long run doesnt seem much different to my last car which was a 1.6 and struggled at high speed

Well good news my second tank got me 32mpg, still on supermarket juice. The Snow mode thing seems to work very well on a run but it by my reckoning makes matters worse in stop start. The tyre pressures were also a little low, 30psi, now 38psi. I am very impressed at the difference just driving the car correctly makes. It is a big change from my Mazda 6, 2.0 which got the same economy no matter how you drove.

  • 5 weeks later...

I chopped my 52 plate Mini Cooper in for my 52 plate IS200 six years ago and didn't modify my driving style and almost fainted at the fuel economy it gave me. I then taught myself to drive it in a reserved manner around town and only open it up properly on the open road and it gave me 10mpg more. On a run from the south coast up to Brum to see me mom I can get there and back on a tankful which is a gnats ball hair under 400 miles.

How come I'm getting 35mpg? Last tank I did 489 miles and brimmed it with 62litres. So it's a 500 mile range if you're brave. Plus I'd describe my driving style as brisk... Maybe it's because I don't slow down for corners.

In the 8 weeks I've had the car I've had 4 full fillups @ 35.4, 36.1, 35.0 and 35.2mpg, average mpg 35.47. Either BP or Shell fuel. However 95% of my driving is open road, with a couple of long trips in there.

Car's on 18", new Goodyear Efficient grip on the back and some duffed Falkens on the front. Oil change was Castrol Edge 5W30.

The previous owner said he got 28mpg. I budgeted for 30. So I'm happy.

Dan. That's brilliant. My MPG last week was 34.1. The longer jour eys are surprisingly good on economy if you're good. I've passed 500 twice and come close a couple of times.

I stopped on 478.6 miles today, but only put 63.88 litres of fuel in. Enough to have pushed for 500 miles.

if you travel long distances then pump up the tyres a bit more than usual, if in the city then pump them as suggested, oh and another thing, supermarket petrols are prone to that so avoid whenever posssible.
