Oily Spark Plugs

Recommended Posts

Just changed my spark plugs.

Slight cause for concern as the plugs out of cylinder 1 and cylinder 2 were a bit oily.null_zps8cd6ad09.jpg

The others were perfectly dry.

There's no oil in the actual cylinder and the oil is above the contact. No misfires, no eml, no nothing, car drives perfectly. Also not lost or used a drop of oil and definitely no blue smoke.

I'm guessing it's just the rocker cover gasket leaking a little and not too much to worry about. What do you guys think?

Cheers :)

I found the exact same thing when i changed mine at the weekend, and also came to the same conclusion. Either rocker gasket or someone spilt oil when changing, but as long as it isn't from inside then i'm not particulary worried for the minute, i'm thinking to have a look at the plugs again in a few months and see if they also get oil onto them, then i'll have a better idea if it's the rocker gasket or not :)

When you remove the air filter box there is an emissions pipe(shaped a bit like a question mark) that clips on underneath it and the other end fits onto a union on the rocker box.

Mine was split in the middle and also at both ends where the clips secures it.

The oil mist was coming from it, running along the rocker cover and down into both No1 & No2 spark plug tubes.

Maybe worth checking that little sucker out first.

Yes, it does sound like they're talking about the PCV system. It's a plastic valve sticking out the side of the rocker cover that is connected to the intake system via a hose.

Ok mate i presumed it was but it's good to get it confirmed cheers :)
