Hi guys I only have one key for my car whats the best and cheapest option for getting hold of a spare?

Dealer is best, doubtless eBay is cheapest.

If it helps at all I was quoted £140 for a new key inc remote fob etc for my wife's rav4 today. Might give you some idea but expect Lexus may want more than that.

The main thing is the key you have needs to be the master key or you cannot program additional keys.

According to toyodiy.com a master key is around £100.00 and the sub key £50.00 but then this will need cutting and programming.

From what I can see programming requires specialist electronics but I would think any decent auto locksmith should be able to do the job far cheaper than Lexus would charge.

I paid a Lexus dealer well under £100 last year for a complete new key.

FYI, I have just been quoted £165.00 for a new key, including VAT and programming of the key.

Do you have a service contract with said dealer - that may well be I the difference in that for established customers they will set lower prices.

As a matter of fact I do, but I don't know whether or not this makes a difference...

Incidentally, our vanishing key has re-appeared, so I'm £165 better off. Or rather, I am not £165 worse off.

John, father in law just got another key for his LS400 as he only had one, he got it through Roys Motor Company in norwich and they programmed it as well. Don't think the price was too bad, I have used them for over twenty years now for servicing etc, always excellent job done at great price. Sprowston road.
