Just took my Lexus RX400H to Bolton Lexus for a recall on hybrid part.No problems just given a is as courtesy car.Back home had a call from lexus bolton to inform me that brakes have seized on 1 side but they could do the job for about £260.I was amazed and informed them the car has just had a new M.O.T. 3 weeks ago and it sailed through that. The service team told me that it would not be picked up in an M.O.T. on a rolling road? They said they will deliver it tomorrow morning even though I asked them to transport it as it was a Lexus recall and I am a bit concerned that it will be driven with seized brakes.Taking the car to my local garage who has had this experience with a customer of his by this garage before, same problem very strange.Any views on this subject will be appreciated.

Yes you would have thought a seized caliper would have shown up on an MOT brake test as a brake imbalance.

The other question I would ask is if the recall was not brake related how did they detect a problem with the caliper without 1st removing the wheel to check unless they offered a free safety check as part of the recall.

Please come back once your indy has taken a look.

Finally welcome to the LOC :)

I have had a car (non Lexus) fail an MOT before ant it was a seized calliper but there's a lot of ways to detect this - - I would have to agree with Steve, how did they detect the problem if it was in for a non related fault, unless it did have a safety check at the same time.

Correct me if I am wrong but they must know the weak areas of the cars they sell so they know where to look and the callipers are a weak area with recalls being issued on them previously for seizing.
