Problem With Ls430 Cd Player

I have a 2001 ls430 with the mark levinson audio

my cd player was showing 'cd error' so I sent it to cartronics Nottingham who diagnosed that the laser was u.s and it would cost £430 to fix!!!!!!

I wasn't going to pay that so I purchased a used unit through a reputable dealer on that other site!

it arrived today I fitted it and hey presto 'CD ERROR'?????

my question is..........

could there be something else causing this apart from the audio unit itself?

or have I just got another u.s unit?

it might sound obvious - but have you tried different cds?

it won't even load cd's

I've got a new ML CD player for when I had 2 ls430's, I knew these cars had issues with the audio systems, but before I could replace it I sold the cars, I had enough of troubles you get with the ls430, I might buy another one though as I have a good job now and can afford to fix anything that goes wrong with the ls430, as I did like the drive on it. So I still have the new CD player sitting in my cupboard, but my point is this, Lexus claim their audio systems are the best etc, but I prefer the system in the ls400, I think it sounds better, also, I have a corrado vr6 since 1995 and have a denon system in it, I play copy cd's in it, and to this day no faults on it, where as the is200 and the la430's are newer and if you play copy cd's in it you get error codes, how rubbish is that

I have been driving around for over a year now with the 'CD Error' displayed, maybe one day I will be in a position to have it repaired. But not today after my new rad expense. :)

Greetings, this is common with the ls430 cd player, but first did you take the shipping lock off? this is done by inserting a small pointy thing into the hole at the bottom back area directly below the 'SHIP ' holes. this needs to be done as you power the unit up ie when you have connected the power and turned on the ign, I found that the fault is the unit goes into ship lock after cds of thicker size have been inserted into the unit and cause a sensor problem. hope this helps.
