Permatex Ultra Grey. Re-Sealing Timing Cover, Sump Pan Etc Ls400

Recommended Posts

have a 1997 ls400 engine i am working on..

i have the engine stripped to the bare block, and will be re-sealing everything....timing cover, sump pan etc...

i contacted permatex, told them the toyota/lexus seal packing number listed in my Factory Repair book (08826-00080) and they told me the Ultra Grey RTV was the correct RTV...in fact the original seal packing i scraped off was grey in color.

so i bought the ultra grey, but looking at the instructions it say to apply it, and tighten bolts finger tight...allow to dry for one hour, then torque to specifications...

There is no mention of this in factory repair book....it just says to apply it then torque to specs....in fact it says if you wait longer than 5 mins, remove it, and re-apply.

i just contacted permatex about this...but wanted to get some thoughts here.

thanks
