What Is The Life Of The Is200 Timing Belt

I have a 2001 regigistered IS200 SE with 75,000 miles on the clock. The handbook shows that the timing belt should be replaced at 100,000 miles. However the Lexus dealer suggests changing it now. Does anyone have any advice on when this should be done

Thanks in anticipation, Stephen

its 100000 miles or 6 years.

I'd agree with the 60000 figure personally as there have been several cases where the belt gets very thin............and at mileage less that 100k

figures were revised dave - the 100K no longer applies

wonder if thats as a result of people suffering snapped belts under 6 years and 100k miles ?

Just had my 6 year 60,000 mile service (although the car has only done 42,000), so I had the cam belt changed as well. The one that came off wasn't too bad wear wise, but it did have a nick in it on one side. It may have gone on for another 10 or 20K, but it just isn't worth the risk.

Change it now. I just got mine done with tensioner and water pump. £560. Don't take the chance or atleast get it inspected.

We have now done in the region of 40 IS200 belt changes, I can confirm 100k is far too much for this belt, its only my opinion but there should be some kind of sticky thread about this before someone has a nasty shock.

i had mine done a little while ago at 116000 and it was half the width it should of been. reckon i was pretty lucky too. got it done including the water pump for £490. not a great price but worth it i suppose!
