  1. Laing O'Rourke, Previously Rok (was Llewellyn) I did look before I posted but couldn't find anything recently
  2. Been looking at all of the worrying threads lately about car-jacking and vehicles simply being stolen. I am looking at a tracking device but which one to go for? As i understand the Tracker emits a signal but the Police have to be within a certain distance before it is picked up? The Trackstar is a GPS based system where the RAC liaise directly with the police to let them know where the vehicle is? Perhaps somebody can correct me? I have looked at the Tracker Horizon (top of the range), Monitor (middle range) and the retrieve (you have to tell them the vehicle is missing) The RAC Trackstar seems to do everything the Horizon does (24hour monitoring GPS based system) for less money. What are the opinions guys? Has anyone actually had to use one before?
  3. I know we have a few coppers on here but what does everyone else do for a living? It is usually good to see the diversity of people on the forums. I'll start - My name is Mark and I'm an alcoholic :winky: (seriously though) I am a quantity surveyor for a construction company.
  4. Assume you've got a piggy back chip with the S/C? - could it be faulty? It could be something else that is controlled electronically? It could just be witchcraft?
  5. That's it - we had this one................ Plus you get the box it comes in too (doesn't say that on the front ! I'm just tight !) It's ideal for picture frames, mirrors etc :D
  6. When we moved I went to one of the Big Yellow Self Storage places. We paid £40 for a complete set of boxes designed for moving a 2 bed house. That came as a pack complete with pens, bubble wrap, tape and a tape dispenser. We were desperate though and got caught out (we didn't pack in time and ended moving out sooner than expected as the buyers cash came through !) Did the job for us though. If i had the time i'd have gone to tesco's or somewhere like that.
  7. 3rd, 4th or 5th for me - I'll be back in sunny Cambridge on the Thursday night.
  8. OK - talking to a few of you guys today has made me think supercharger Easy to fit by all accounts but are there ever any probs with them? Reliability etc etc. I need to give the Lex a bit of a kick start i think (possibly, maybe, perhaps). If I had the bits the fitting I could do myself on unlces farm in the workshop - no probs there. Just testing the water. Can parts be sourced at reasonable prices? How much difference does it make performace wise? I miss the accelleration of my old cupra but know it won't be anything like. The car must be 100% reliable too though. Plus I intend to keep it for a few years. Is it going to pull my pants down on fuel economy? If I can create a complete street sleeper by doing it though i will be happy. :winky: Opinions chaps? (sorry for so many bloody questions at once)
  9. Good day - great to meet some of you lads - Zee, we'll defo have to sort that beer and curry out ! I got some good pictures of Zee on the track (and doing his ballerina impression :winky: ) Got a few of the cars on the stand too. The 2.99 second Evo tried again and dumped his gearbox on the start grid so had to give up in the end Drift cars were awesome ! I took far too many photos - will get them uploaded ASAP - unless anyone can host 8 megapixel images for me I'll have to reduce them and put them on fotopic. I have decided I really need to mod the car now - funds don't really allow and i keep telling myself i should keep it as it is and be done with - let Tracey build up her NCB and then get a really lairy weekend car - i'm impatient though and my car defo looked poop compared to the rest today I'll be ok next week - I always come away from shows and want to do something as i've seen something better than what i've got. Touch of the old green eyed monster i suppose. Friend is buying an Evo VI Tommi but i keep telling myself he only has his d1ck to keep - I'm married, mortgage, professional career etc etc etc - priorities ! I'm waffling Anyways - good to meet you all and can't wait till the next one :D
  10. I have just cleaned the exhaust on the IS with Cif ! Was prepping the car today for Trax and thought that the tip looked proper grubby. I thought it was mild steel but also thought i could removed some of the crap. Looked for my Silvo which is normally pretty good at clearing crud but couldn't find it. Low and behold i saw the Cif under the kitchen sink - worth a stab i thought, it cleaned the radiators in the house nicely and they're metal Anyway - slapped a bit on only to find it worked a treat - and i have now found out that the exhaust tip is stainless steel Looks fookin brilliant now (I even got a little anal and cleaned the inside :duh: ) So - don't bother with expensive metal cleaners at £3/4 a tube - get some 99p Cif from the local shop - job done :D
  11. That's about right........ Say £100 per tyre £60 for the pads plus an hours fitting @ £50 Service cost would be around £314 I would say that's a major srvice not an intermediate. You've got to love the stealers. ;)
  12. Can't see why not - they're not vehicle specific I don't think.
  13. How about one of these............ Spider catcher type thingy jobs........ Looks like a big bugger in the bottom picture
  14. Both had cam belts done - have they both got full Lexus Service History? Like Kazdul said though - which one feels and drives better?
  15. I might get shot down here but I would say go with the SE It is £500 more, but you are getting 10k less on the clock and an extra 4 months T&T on top. The only difference between the SE and the sport is a spoiler on the boot - tinted rear windows and rear screen, aluminium pedlas and kick plates. (Please anyone correct me if i'm wrong) SE looks like a better buy to me. But without seeing the cars in the flesh it is hard to tell - your decision at the end of the day but that's my advice. (I'll get back in my box now ! :winky: )
  16. I am becoming disturbed at the amount of incidents being posted on all the car forums at the moment. What is the worldc coming to? Kids with nothing better to do than cause trouble like this - it sickens me. Yet the police will give them a slap on the wrists and that will be that. They won't actually learn anything from it (or care) and will do the same again. I am only 24 but feel i have the right to say that the "youth of today" just don't care. I will always remember when i was about 6 i came out of the park on my BMX (it had bread bag tags in the spokes and everything ! :winky: ) and pulled out in front of a car (completely my fault). As he disappeared down the road i stuck two fingers up behind the handle bars at this chap (he was about 60). Brake lights on - i pooped my pants. He came over and said "i don't know who you are son but i can find out and i'll be straight round to see your father unless you apologise now". I nervously apologised and the guy went on his way - I was brought up to respect people and their property though. If you were to do that to a 6 year old today you would get a load of abuse and probably turd through your letterbox. This country is going to rat **** :tsktsk: Rant over. I do hope your Nephew gets it sorted Daza. They should give him 1/2 hour in the cells with the tick turds concerned aided by his friend mr cricket bat - that would be fair justice. :winky:
  17. My steering wheel is off to the left :duh: It was like it when I picked the car up from the dealers a month or so ago ?? I never mentioned it as I was too excited at the time and it would have meant I didn't have the car for the weekend (I picked it up 5.00pm on a Friday !) Your meet was mentioned to me the other night so I may venture down if only to say hi :D If you could let me know if my geo is fooked though i would appreciate it.
  18. I'm with Barclays - £130 for the year with buildings and contents (plus extended contents to £3000 for our walking and climbing gear for when we go away. Norwich Union and the others didn't compare at all. Worth a quote from them though.
  19. I did say I would refrain from any modding to the IS as it looks great as it is but.................. Where can you get those spats from? I like the idea of them with the Sports Grille Are they relatively easy to fit? I assume the grille can be done by a numpty but the spats may require drilling/bonding? (Sorry for hi-jacking the thread :winky: )
  20. Good to meet you Mark, but just for the record I think you are referring to the MR2? ← LOL - yes the MR2 !!
  21. Fensport are about 5 miles from where i live - perhaps you could give me the car and your credit card for the weekend and i could make some "investements" for you. Of course I would have to carry out extensive road testing just to make sure all is ok with the new supercharger, coilovers 30" wheels etc etc etc !! :winky: Looked good in the flesh last night though - get polishing my man ! B)
  22. It depends whether the A/C is on or not - if it is in "full climate" then I have it at around 21 deg and let the car do the rest. If i haven't got the A/C on but everything is still on "auto" then i set it to where i'm comfortable. I'm the sort of guy that would rather have the windows open and enjoy the weather than sit in a fridge though - perhaps I'm just a bit weird ! I did use the heated seat the other morning at 5.00am as the leather was a tad chilly but turned it off after 5 mins as i too felt like i'd wet my pants. The missus loves it though ! (the heated seats - not my wet pants ! :winky: )
  23. What the bloody hell is this country coming to? We should take a tip from the Middle East and start cutting peoples bloody hands off. You say luckily it wasn't your lexus but the CTR was still your posession. In some ways i suppose you were lucky to get home unscathed but it is still friggin' disgusting the way this country is. Bring back hanging. :tsktsk: Lets hope your insurance company are sympathetic though.
  24. Is it worth getting a quote from a Toyota dealer? Might not be el cheapo but won't be aqs expensive as Lex and they are used to working on the engines. Just a thought.
  25. From a purely lazy point of view I can't be arsed to read the entire thread (don's flame-proof suit :winky: ) Have all of the tickets gone now? I am planning on going but wondered whether I'm going to have to park with the common folk in the public car park? I'll definately come and say hello either way - be good to meet some of you guys. I think I'm staying at a mates in Towcester the night before so the journey shouldn't be too bad :D
