  1. Hahahaha - Well said Scorpion ! I don't bother with driving extra miles to put supa-dupa 200 octane unleaded in and I don't believe for one minute with mixed driving it makes a jot of difference.... it's a great marketing ploy. Claims of "I can get a million miles out of a gallon...blah, blah" or "I have been using Suprendo Unleaded from Shell Spazzomax and I got an extra 47 feet per tank out of it" are all pointless.... Your car needs petrol..... you fill it up. end of story! Nope..... don't bother trying to convince me otherwise..... My hands are over my ears and I'm not listening... lalalalalalalalalala :P :P :P The Ed
  2. larryadler....... check Here Probably just about the cheapest for genuine Lexus discs. They post direct to you. Just type in your current disc part number and the website will do the rest. regards The Ed
  3. Try here or just Google OBD2 readers ! Hellfrauds sell them but at Hellfrauds usual daft mark up price - buy one off the world wide wonder web.... far cheaper and better spec. The Ed
  4. Hmmmm.... S-U-N-R-O-O-F ??? Oh yes... I remember... I've got one and made sure it opened and closed the day I took delivery and.... Never used it since.. That's what climate control is for. Actually never Switched that OFF since taking delivery ) The Ed
  5. First of all are you sure you have recalibrated properly?... Have you followed the recalibration instructions to the letter? Secondly, have you done a full recalibration and not just a 'quick' recal (for rotation or replacement of tires etc)? If you have done a complete recalibration and it is still giving you strange location anomolies then I suggest a trip to the dealer would be your best option to run a diagnostic. If you have only had the car a couple of months I assume it would still be covered by a 90 day warranty (Lexus or not) and you should take it back to get checked. The Ed Thanks for the repply, how do you recalibrate it properly (do you know or do you know where I can get a manual we have tried our Lexus dealer with no luck) as we have no manual with it and I can't find how to get one, I am sure we are not doing it right!! Thanks Chris I will go dig out my manual when I get a chance and come back to you. From memory once you have put it into 'recalibrate mode' you have to drive for a few miles on a fairly straight road. Also from memory there are three types of calibration. 1. Is a quick calibrate - for when you have purchased new tires or rotated your rubber (this is to do with the rolling circumference of the wheel changing and is linked to the sensors on the axle which feed information to the GPS system when a Satellite lock can not be maintained) 2. A manual adjustment of location based on the map image which may be off - This is where what you are seeing on the map isn't exactly where you are or the direction you are pointing! - an example of this might be where you know you are on a particular road, you take a turn and the map symbol points in the wrong direction. This is also linked to the electronic compass which I believe feeds the GPS as well. Calibration of this means setting and driving round in a circle a couple of times! 3. A full calibration of the system - Example where the vehicle is new and been delivered to the dealer. I'm surprised your dealer hasn't been more helpful as they should know how to calibrate (or can tell you over the phone) as they would have to do this as part of the PDC on a new vehicles? I will see what I can dig out on my system and come back to you. All the best Mark

  7. Hmmmmm...... I know this answer doesn't help but..... with proximity keys it should be impossible to do that! I tried when I first purchased my GS and the car senses the key fob is in the cabin and wont lock the doors and from memory gives a warning on the display by the speedo. Why would the doors auto lock? I don't get it?
  8. Welcome to Lexus !!! Had a GS from new in March 2006 - Never had an issue with the seats and comfort. Just make sure you get the lumber support adjusted nicely (I prefer mine so I can feel it pushing and supporting my back), and finding a comfortable position isn't really an issue with 10 different adjustments on the seat ! 9. It's in fact the insurance companies that don't understand.... They are not the brightest individuals out there and love to hide behind statistics. I would hazard a guess that some bright (read as dim) junior has seen 'SEL' and pigeon holed the vehicle on the legacy of the old model designations. It can't possibly be loss ratio figures as the car has only just been released. Unfortunately it's very difficult to actually talk to one of the underwriters as they put themselves on a pedestal and usually wont talk to the general public (although after lunch most of them are incabable of talking to anyone anyway!!) Suggest you just shop around and go for the best quote you can get. The Ed
  10. Hi, Can anyone please suggest a Can-bus/obdii/obd2 reader that they know will work on a 2006 GS? (and reset codes) What protocols do I need to look for and oh..... where is the socket? - Engine bay or passenger comp? I have had a search on the world wide wonder web and there are units that range from around £30 up to a small house !! Any help appreciated. The Ed
  11. Hmmmmmm.... Only one problem. They have the turning circle the size of Devon. My father had one a little while ago. Kept it for 10 months and then couldn't stand the lack of lock on the thing so chucked it in. Hope you enjoy your purchase but................. expect to circum-navigate small countries when you execute a parking procedure. The Ed
  12. Yes - but a dealer has to do it..... 'some' friendly dealers will do it for free (30 second job) - others will charge £25 Phone around The Ed
  13. You're very patient ... If that was my drive it would have been gone weeks ago !!! You have a few options.. 1 - The trolley jack/mates approach 2 - Write a formal letter to the local police telling them that as it's parked dangerously and you have already informed them of this, if there is an accident or injury caused by the obstruction of your drive you are holding the chief constable responsible and will issue proceedings. 3 - An anonymous call from a phone box (do they still exist)telling them there is an explosive package inside (they will shut off the road for a bit but the entertainmant value could be fun and once they've broken into the van they will cart it off or blow it up !!) The Ed
  14. Or just replace your screenwash with neat Jack Daniels !! :winky: (Now I KNOW everyone is going to Google the freezing point of JD now :P )
  15. Don't hold your breath. The kits to carry out the work are not even in the country yet ! Letters sent out by VOSA. Parts not in the dealers yet to actually do the work. Be patient ......... The Ed
  16. Say "Delete all destinations" Then it will ask for a "Yes" or "No".... Say "Yes" (or press 'Yes') - Job done! The Ed
  17. This is a KNOWN fault and Lexus are fully aware of it (they just wont admit to it). They have extended the warranty on this problem to 5 years (but kept it quiet). It necessitates two oxygen sensors, an ECU and an oil and filter change (not sure why it needs the last bit) - Total cost would be £2,000 plus. Stick to your gun... Lexus will stump up (or take them to court and ask them why they have increased their warranty to 5 years for this hiccup if 'there is no problem' and while you're at it ask them to explain why they have done so many of these free of charge). They may bellyache about how you took it out of dealership for service but they haven't got a leg to stand on unless they want to take on European legislation about warranties and insisting that you get it serviced by a dealer (which of course they can't) Good luck The Ed
  18. Totally agree with fjcfarrar on this one - I think it's going to be some dirty transmitter spewing out harmonics. I can't see it being a fundamental. Also, can't see it being a radio amateur as they are (usually) pretty hot on pumping out clean RF. It's more likely a cheap and nasty piece of gear as fjcfarrar suggests pumping out across the spectrum. I wish you luck on finding the source - failing that.... Move House !! :winky: The Ed
  19. Hmmmm - Sounds a bit iffy to me (have you got a link to the site?) - Considering a difference of a gram or two can have an affect on wheel balance I would have thought that if these are thick and tough enough to do any good then they will weigh a few grams each. The Ed
  20. You sure you mean everyone or you as a person? as said MOST people, most in no way means everyone....well it didn't when i was at school?? My mate has just bought an Audi RS4 privately. He asked if anything was owed, there was, and he did the HPI check. He bought the car by paying off the finance owed to the finance company and gave a little cash to the owner. Anybody buying a car privately should HPI. If your selling a car with finance owing just be honest and offer the information to the prospective buyer. He/she will then see you as honest and shouldn't really be bothered who they have to pay to own the car. If you sell for 10k and owe 6k the maths are easy. I would insist on paying the finance company rather than give the cash over to the seller and hope that they pay off the car. Most people with common sense would do this. With regard to the OP let the buyer know before hand the situation and give the details. You should sell the car no problem. OK - First things first. The third party (the new owner or buyer is NOT PARTY to the original contract). The contract is between the individual who took out the finance and the finance company - THAT'S IT. Having said that the finance company will have a lien on the motor vehicle and in the event of non payment have full rights to repossess the car no matter who allegedly owns it at the time. It is similar to a mortgage in as much as the mortgage company has first rights on the property even if you only owe £5 on it !! The finance company is under no obligation to accept a payment from a third party and expects the original party to the contract to make payments/settle outstanding debt. Personally if there is any outstanding finance on a vehicle I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, you run the risk of opening up a legal can of worm and unless you are VERY clear on the understanding of the terms and conditions of the contract in question you could find yourself severely out of pocket. If you are in doubt and you still want to proceed with a purchase I suggest you insist on seeing the contract (although the vendor is under no obligation to show it to you and even under the terms of the agreement may be breaking a clause in the contract by disclosing it to a third party)and then utilize the services of a good solicitor who is fully conversant with contract law. 21. It's not the keyless entry system.... that shuts down after 5 days from memory (then you have to use the button on the keyfob to unlock the doors). Something isn't right if you cant leave your car to go on holiday and not have it start when you come back !!! I have left my 06 GS for a month before, come back, (had to use the fob to open it because keyless entry shuts down) and then pushed start and it fires up first time (as I would expect). The Ed
  22. Just drive everywhere naked !!!! - Problem solved !!!!!!!!!!
  23. Yes, at cost plus £1................ This is simple to work out if they are telling a pack of lies. Since they have offered to sell a car at cost plus £1 they will obviously have no qualms about showing you their stock listing manifest with the vehicles VIN numbers against the invoice price which they paid for them? After all they can't be secret can they because all you need do is subtract a pound from the price they are telling you and it should match what is on the inventory listing. Of course if they make up some crap excuse why they can't show you the documents...... I smell a rat !! If I was in the market to buy a new Lex I would INSIST on seeing these documents or walk away !!...... The Ed
