  1. If I remember correctly, the two button transponder is part of the valet key. You still need the transponder from the master (i.e. three button) to do the setup.
  2. I had a very similar problem after having had some issues with my battery and failed attempts at a jump start. It does sound like a fuse has gone. Would implore you to follow lexynik's advice as this is what AA found when I called them out at the time. I seem to recall having some issue with the fuse and housing which meant a tow and fix at the dealership (cost around £50 to rectify) otherwise I would have bought the fuse and replaced myself (not mechanically inclined also!). Best of luck mate.
  3. I was in a very similar predicament a while back (not in the middle of a club - just one key) but managed to retrieve one of my keys from a dealership so my purchases became redundant. I may have a set (not sure of combination - whether it is the uncut key/remote). Will see what I have and so may be able to help out. Will check at home in the eve and pm if you're happy with that?
  4. I had the dreaded judder (on braking, not acceleration) some time back and after changing a combination of brake pads/discs (mintex set) and tyres (Falkens), it disappeared. I needed to get these sorted at that time so naturally I was pleased. Without trying to profess any meaningful mechanical competence and just going by experience, it could be down to alingment/fitment of the brake pads and or warped discs. Tyres get a battering on the IS200 so this could also be the root of the problem. Best of luck anyway...
  5. I'm in Prestwich, near Heaton Park (North Manchester). Quiet orthodox jewish area I am led to believe. Did the rounds last night with the neighbours, nobody saw anything! Turns out that another Lexus IS owner down the street (blue '03) had his mirror swiped, next door has an IS too (platinum ice '99) but not a problem. Fancy having three on the same street, sure that is some sort of record (3 out of 24 neighbours having a Lex too!). Got the window replaced by National Windscreens. Only went with them as RAC Autowindscreen/Autoglass had no windows available. Basically, they did a crap job! Clearing up is part of their remit and there were loads of shards still on the passenger seat, mat etc etc. When I was waiting in reception, there was a phone complaint and then to my horror, another dissatisfied customer came in complaining about a recent fit. I was assured my fit would be fine - will wait and see on this. I'm sure other depots aren't that bad but consider if you come to fit. The guy who replaced the window told me that someone shot at the car with a pellet type gun and showed me the damage to other parts of the paintwork (see below, disregard the self inflicted arch scrapes ). Its quite a rounded deep ding. Autoglass who did the Yaris say that it was an air gun too. This is worrying...!!! :o Now I definitely have experience of why Manchester is called Gunchester!!! I am due to move down 'sarf...can't wait. http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/7163/dscn0001kn2.jpg http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/8590/dscn00012zt6.jpg http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/8463/dscn00011va8.jpg
  6. Absolutely gutted! My near side window was smashed along with another car in the household yesterday night (10-10.30pm), see pics. below. Excess to be paid when auto glass replacement guys come - could have done without this. Strangely, alarm did not go off at all (the baby lexus kept quite as it was being abused!...how sad). I have convinced myself that I locked the car when I last used it - I am very trigger happy when getting out of the car. Perhaps I pressed the 'lock' button twice and disengaged the radar sensor function (surely, alarm would still go off if intruder tries to break in?). The vandal(s) probably used one of those shatter glass hammers on both cars (sadly, the other car in the household was a Toyota too, albeit not the luxury range). Whoever did it, came on to my private driveway, 'tapped' the back window of the Yaris, negotiated through the small passage between car and hedge, bypass the Lex n/s rear window and 'tapped' the n/s front. Not sure about the vandals logic (why not tap the n/s rear?) but makes me very angry indeed! :tsktsk: As a formality, I phoned the police. Incident no. and crime ref. to follow, a waste of time! (A quote from 'Goodfellas' the movie comes to mind...Jimmy, I'd complain, but who'd listen?) If only the alarm went off, those golf clubs in the hallway would have got an outing! Would have defended my property to the hilt... Any advice for when the auto glass replacement guys come as to type of window replacement?
  7. Check excessive wear on tyres too, especially the fronts.
  8. Moffet According to my invoice on 11/12/07, battery is listed as: L28800-YZZAE Unit price was £46.00 and with gold discount, £41.40. Hope inflation hasn't affected the prices! c4shr
  9. I am sure it is the tyres, had a similar judder problem when my tyres needed changing (all four) after service. Despite a full brake overhaul to Mintex, the problem persisted around 60mph. Once I changed the front NS the problem went, I noticed quite a gash in the thread.
  10. Hmmm...as Audi now have Lamborghini under there belts, doubt there is any likelihood that a Lambo is going to have an 'Audi' branded battery sitting in there!...Imagine.
  11. I got an excellent 'made to order' rear plate from demonplates.com to the exact mm. Cant recommend them enough, they were helpful and provided a very quick service.
  12. I would definitely think it is the tyres, my car was doing the same and then the judder came in at high speed. Having changed all four tyres, the problem is resolved. Ive had Bridgestone Potenzas and Dunlop SP's - I dont rate them at all. Opted for Falken FK452's from Camskill.co.uk (£60 a piece), they are absolutely brilliant on both wet and dry conditions. They look the business too! Check you front tyres, inner tread wearing quicker than outer will mean that your geometry needs to be set.
  13. Best to get the Lexus Dealership battery, its cheaper than the Halfords one by miles. Only problem is that it has Toyota branding on it barring that, it is ace!
  14. Here are some alloy wheels for sale in Manchester on ebay, I would hurry though as the auction ends soon... Link I am going to view a car later on in the week and will see if there is a set of leathers going, I will get a price for you and then pm you. Is this ok?
  15. Its not really a problem! I got Timpsons (Manchester) to cut my IS key. I think you have to check whether they have a laser key cutting machine as not all Timpsons do. £6. As for the length, the IS key is 38mm and ebay keys are 40mm. Rather than ask someone to cut 2mm off, any good locksmith would suggest moving the key cut down. My 40mm IS200 key fits perfect just protrudes out somewhat, but it is no problem though.
  16. No problems yet as mine has been serviced well and has only ever done motorway miles. I have replaced the usual maintenance parts e.g. brakes, tyres, battery etc. I have stone chips too and try not to use an excessively high pressured jet wash as paint flakes behind the mirrors. Worried about clutch, gearbox but no sign of problems yet. Is it advisable to get a warranty from the many advertised warranties available?
  17. They are very expensive, over £100 I believe. I recently purchased a 3 button IS200 key with transponder from ebay for about £18, then purchased a blank for £5 and swapped the transponder. It cost me £6 to get the key cut from Timpsons (Manchester). Total £29. I just used the programming instructions from LOC and hey presto! Whilst you don't like the idea of doing the above, the alternative is to purchase from Lexus direct or wait for a Lexus uncut key with transponder to become available on ebay (I last saw one advertised about £46). In ignorance of seeing your physical key, I still think you can get your transponder out. Surely the casing is glued together in absence of the two screws that would normally hold the casing together. The transponder inside is a fixed unit and can detach. Do you think the glue may have spread? Best of luck in any event!
  18. Can't tell you how annoying it is to learn from a Lexus dealership that it would cost you over £2000.00 to resolve this problem. More so when it is a smarmy adviser who can't help but say...'it is a Lexus after all!'. I am not really a fan of people who continuously quote the same. Annoying as it maybe, they are all correct, it would cost a LEXUS dealership that much to rectify. The reason for this excessive cost is due to the integrated immobiliser in the ECM (Engine Management Module), not even Lexus have the facilities to code new keys to a vehicle (from 1998 onwards) if both the Master keys have been lost. That said, there is NO reason for someone to go to a reputable locksmith/electronic automotive specialist to resolve. gazzull22 is therefore correct. You would need to reflash the ECM and have keys programmed to it. I can recommend you someone who reflashes the ECM for a ridiculously cheap price but he is based in Warrington, Cheshire. He has been programming Lexus/Toyotas for 25 years and 15 of them years with Toyota. He is a Toyota enthusiast and quotes much less than the quote in the previous threads. PM me if you would like the contact details! Changing ECM is too much of a hassle, don't do it. For now, I would change the battery in your key, it is relatively easy to do - just need a very small phillips screwdriver. The type that would allow you to change a screw in spectacles. You can buy a cheap battery from a local automotive store (no more than £2). Hope this helps...
  19. Battery replaced today from Lexus Bolton, £48 all in. It was OEM 250 Din, 12V, 65AH. Car no longer has the sluggish start, problem resolved!
  20. Halfords do a free battery test. Don't buy the battery from them though. The Halfords branded calcium battery for the Lexus is around £96. I got my battery changed today from Lexus Bolton, £48 all in (just battery, not fitting). Its a 250 Din, 12v, 65AH rating battery with 3 years guarantee. I used to have intermittent trouble with my battery. It would start sluggishly and then once taken to be tested it was ok, very strange! Several [cold] months later and the car being stood for around several days meant battery was shot. I took Rob's advice on this but rather than buy the Bosch Silver Asia 6AD, I opted for a Lexus OEM one, it is much cheaper. Incidentally, the Bosch one was priced around £88 from a respectable and normally reasonably priced automotive outfit - Euro Car Parts. My Lex is starting on the turn of the key, sluggish starting problem solved - end of.
  21. Thanks mate. Ended up getting it changed by the dealership. Got the battery (12v, 65AH, 250 Din) for just over £48! They charged me to fit it though...nothing is free in this world. Whatever happened to the season of goodwill.
  22. Hello All I have identified that my battery requires changing (9V on dash each morning should be around 14V, key turn drops it further down to 2-6V when I attempt starting and then I hear the dreaded clicks - luckily upon pressing accelerator it starts very slowly). Cannot see fluid level lines and checking by hydrometer is difficult but the necessity of a battery change is probably due to, amongst other things, battery life nearing to an end (no sign of battery change in service log except battery trans. something or another paid for in 06 service??), cold weather and not driving the car too much recently as its been stood at home (I'm not well you see so signed off on a doctors note!) I have just obtained a quote from Lexus Manchester and Bolton who both advise a price of £54.05 inclusive. I will be going to Bolton, gives the battery some charge and better still, they accept LOC Gold member discount. Have attempted poorly to work out how I can change the battery myself. I can undo the hold-down clamp at the top quite easily. I know I must attempt the negative connection first. Am I right to undo the clamp bolts adjacent to the terminals? (i.e. the bolt directly near the terminal pole which is opened on the side as opposed to the bolt nearest to the wire opened from the top). The bolts seem to be really tight and I cannot undo them. Is this a WD40 occasion or should I get a pro. to fit it in? I am the first to admit that I am not mechanically or DIY sound but I am very keen to get stuck in (and prone to errors!). :duh: Any help is of course much appreciated.
  23. Posted earlier by accident my post should read... I get that too but it is intermittent and veers towards right. I checked braking on Friday coming home from work (windows open, music off) but there was no discernible noises coming from anywhere in particular. Coming into work today upon braking, judder of steering wheel and veering to right slowly I am due to get brake pads/discs changed on front which hopefully should resolve - I need to get them changed anyway.
