  1. Sorry Mike couldn't resist, seriously it may be that you have to remove the player and then get some local repair shop take a look at it or if you feel confident have a look inside yourself, I heard before that some CDR type discs have poorly made centre holes and can jam on the spindle motor turntable. There is no easy solution I'm afraid, you could try pulling the fuse for the player or disconnecting the battery (beware of radio/alarm codes etc if you do the latter) and see if the mech will reset. Failing that PM benfur to see if he has a working unit to swap it out.
  2. Hi, I had the alignment done about a year ago and it was only slightly out, tyre wear has always been even across all four and castor action is normal but as you suggest I will have it rechecked after the work has been done.
  3. Hi and welcome to the LOC,. The LS is good in the snow mine just sat there with the rear wheels spinning and the traction control doing nothing except make a noise lol It was so upset it wouldn't come out of the garage until the snow went.
  4. Before replacing have you tried repairing your existing seat it is normally just a worn rod. The link below suggests several methods of repair. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/442318-how-to-fix-the-problem-with-non-working-reclining-on-drivers-seat-pictures-inside.html If no luck try sending a PM to benfur as he normally has plenty of spares
  5. I like it! Nothing like joining the LOC and being proactive lol Welcome to the club. You may be our 1st and only member on the IOM can we all come over and have a go on the TT track? Another member on here 200red fitted some recently you could PM him for ideas.
  6. Hi Malc, Mileage is now 70,000 ( was 62,000KM converted to 37,000 when I bought it as an import nearly 5 years ago)so it hasn't done bad considering the state of our roads and those speed humps on the estate where I live, had it remained in Japan it probably wouldn't need them even now. Hi klexus I did look at those first but the feedback put me off with mentions of poor quality threads ( I wouldn't like the risk on a critical component) and long delivery times as I need them quickly. You are probably correct in that the quality is fine but we are only talking an extra £40.00 for the genuine Lexus items ( possibly made in Taiwan!lol. The parts arrive Wednesday and the car is booked in Thursday. Strange thing is I have not noticed any knocking sounds but it does like to tramline even after changing the tyres and feels "floaty" at speed. I will let you all know if this makes any improvement after the job is done. What is also interesting is that I got the part #s from Toyodiy and the Celsior one is $131.00 compared to $98.00 for the LS but the part numbers are exactly the same!I had this at a Toyota dealer once where they tried to put an "import surcharge" on some parts.I told them I would go to the Lexus dealer and buy the same parts for an LS and they then became the same price.
  7. Update, on reflection the garage will fit them for £40.00 so decided I not to get my hands dirty at that price and let them do it.
  8. Well, it had to come I guess having never had a suspension part replaced as far as I know the LS went for its MOT and was failed (only) on both front bottom ball joints. Not a complete disaster as replacing them is,I think, within the scope of my mechanical skills. So all I needed were the replacement parts so in the following order it was eBay,Motor Factors then Lexus. Starting with Fleabay they are around £60.00 each plus an extortionate £10.99 P+P for non Lexus parts or some dodgy, going from the negative feedback, replacements listed as in Fife,Scotland but actually from Taiwan for £50.00 a pair. Sutton Auto Factors didn't do them and Euro Car Parts had non Lexus OEM quality at £65.62 inc VAT each plus delivery. Fearing the cost I left Lexus until the last resort and was indeed in for a shock but not in the usual sit down and relax I am now going to tell you the price scenario. Sean the parts manager at Lexus Derby has ordered me the set for £120.00 inclusive and of course these are original Lexus in the nice fancy packing and will be ready for collection on Wednesday due to the Bank Holiday. So the moral of the story is don't dismiss your dealer when it comes to parts, for some of the older models the prices are quite reasonable, did I really say that! Ironically the one thing I thought might fail was the NS upper wishbone ball joint as I noticed some play in it, but no mention on the fail sheet or advisory sheet, bravely I asked the tester and it was slight wear but not enough this time to fail, the play was in fact mostly from the well worn lower ball joint which he said, slightly exaggerating I think "could be lifted up and down several inches with a pry bar" All in all not a bad result £155.00 all in for another years motoring.
  9. I've had a look on the suspension exploded diagram and cannot find a part called a "camber bar."There is a Toe control link assy and its adjuster part # 48706-50010 and 48452-32040 respectively. It seems strange only to have affected only one side but also the front tyre as well,I take it the car was new when you bought it? As to why these have failed I would ask the dealer this question. LS430 air suspension is complicated and expensive. Finally welcome to the LOC
  10. Cheers Roy, I thought so as I tried on both the Mac Book and PC lets hope they sort it soon,it must have gone down about 2.0pm
  11. Hi, If anyone uses the above server for email could they check to see if it is working as mine appears down on both computers pop.freeserve.co.uk smtp.freeserve.co.uk Cheers, Steve
  12. Hi, New members are always welcome on the LOC but please do not hijack another thread on a different subject for another model, you will get more responses if you post your problem in the GS forum. Having said all that the 1st thing you need to do is have the fault codes read on a diagnostic tester, this doesn't have to be a Lexus dealer any good independent garage should be able to do this.
  13. i am convinced they forgot to put the AT fluid back in although I doubt they will ever admit the fact, but a very good result overall BTW do you realise a new wheel bearing fitted by Lexus is over £3500.00! Only joking or am I! lol. Let us know when you have it back and have them check the fluid level in front of you before you drive off.
  14. I messed the above post up! Very good theory, with it being parked facing uphill the weight of the car would due to gravity be shifted towards the rear, add 50Kgs in the boot and the ride height sensors as you say could detect this as a fault, have you tried facing the car downhill and placing 50Kgs on top of the engine and see if it has a similar effect, but don't try and close the bonnet! lol
  15. This is a good one as not sure on this as I work on the older models but as a guess has the ls430 have a rear suspension warning sensor to say when either a rear sturt or suspension fail. What I mean if the car sits to low it senses the ride high is incorrect due to the weight and sends a signal to the ecu that a rear strut has problem as the ride height is lower than factory setting. When you take the weight out then the car sits at the right height. You could try it again on the same hill and see if it comes on and then try it with someone sitting in the boat and see if it lights up. Only other thing is that if the car sits on a steep hill then the fluids runs away from a sensor triggering a fault to say a fluid level is low but once you move onto the flat it's OK. The fluid would be a knat's manhood under a set limit. Just a suggestion.

  17. Good result then was that a 3rd strip down then? The garage that did mine used Autodata but having the incorrect belt wouldn't help, glad you got it sorted. I would assume that's why the cam sensors were as they were with the cams out of sync their output would be wrong and conflicting. For future reference there is now a Tutorial for the later engines the one below is for the LS430 but I would think apart from capacity they are similar http://www.shastaanesthesia.com/Lexus/Page1.html
  18. This looks like becoming a "common problem" as of yet no one has fond the cause but my bet is an intermittent connection, poor soldering or leaky capacitors as in the earlier LS400s http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls430/452218-02-touch-screen-not-working.html
  19. It looks like you are a trader look out Janey will get you! lol Put the Lexus part number in 48610-50020 but no results perhaps you could find out for me?
  20. Cheers Bazgtr I was thinking the same there are under body heat shields to protect the car anyway. MOT is due in next few weeks so I will wait and see if it fails on it first. Cheers SteveLS400, I couldn't remember where the duff upper arms came from. Apart from Lexus any recommendations for when I do need one? One positive to come out of this was before the brake service I had a knocking noise on the front when braking and turning at the same time but this had now gone, I suspect it was a lack of grease on the sliding pins giving metal to metal contact, fortunately non were seized this time!
  21. I must admit I will do most things myself, including a starter motor removal, repair and refit but did let a local garage change my cam belt and it took them over 10 hours, have you read the diagnostic codes even if the EML is not on there may be a stored code giving an indication of the problem and with you being a garage you should have access to a decent live data analyser, possible causes could be as you suspect cam sensors (compare the resistance of the two of them with a meter) and their associated wiring, possibly the crank sensor although this normally gives a complete no start. Even though the fuel system hasn't been touched it may be worth checking the fuel rail pressure.
  22. Decide to do a brake service today, backs went nice and smoothly so did the fronts until I broke the remaining low pad sensor wire ( other already broken and bypassed) so I bypassed that as well, not wanting to pay Lexus £50.00 for a new one.I can see the pads through the wheels and bending down to inspect them is a lot cheaper! I gave the near side wheel an up down wobble test while it was still off the ground and detected some play in the upper wishbone ball joint, very slight but you can see the physical movement. Looked on Fleabay and they are there from AZ for £69.99 delivered apparently OEM quality and guaranteed, could someone comment if they have fitted these please. As the car was still on stands I ventured underneath and discovered the cause of a rattle, most of the wrap around exhaust heat cover fastenings were broken and the pieces were just hanging on,so I removed most of them as there is a fixed heat shield above the sections. Are these required? I could refit with some stainless steel clips or leave them off. Finally the complete exhaust is stainless but I thought only series 3 post Oct 94 had these, maybe JDM models were as standard.
  23. Hi and welcome to the LOC. Blimey with wiring like that who fitted the after market stereo!
  24. Hello and welcome to the LOC. There is plenty of information on both your problems as they, amongst others are common on the LS400,as you are a new member I will provide some links for both but if you do a search either on this site or simply google the faults you will find all the info you need. Aerial Fault http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/powerantenna.html Display fault http://www.lextreme.com/lcdtech.html We have members in Scotland and one,Ormi is a Lexus Technician, please feel free to post up some pictures.
