  1. On mine there is very small amount required to top up from the low to high marks (experienced from a fluid change) so I would suggest a 1ltr pack would be plenty. Did you check the level hot or cold as the hot level readings are supposedly more accurate according to Lexus, the cold measure should only be considered a rough reading. I think to get the correct hot readings a run of a least 35 miles must be completed and the levels checked immediately on return after following the recommended proceedure in the handbook before reading the level. After topping up keep a close eye on the level if it begins dropping there may be a leak, not necessarily visible.
  2. Good advice Steve, the back doors normally don't get the same use as the fronts so linkages can seize partially and from past experience the motor that controls the lock can fail. The good news is there is no key lock involved so the mechanism is a lot simpler than the front doors. I think there is a tutorial on www.lexls.com for removing the door card.

    Hello

Hello, Welcome to the LOC. This could be taken as advertising the car for sale so if the mods see it they may edit or remove the post. Car looks OK for the money.
  4. Good memory Simon it is also his username This should help http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=49175&st=0&p=523342&fromsearch=1entry523342
  5. Can anyone remember the guy from North Ferriby who had the converted LS430, I can remember his name was Pete,he came to several LOC meets at Doncaster, had a bad back and sold the car. I haven't seen him on her for a while but he may have some useful input.
  6. Hi the links below should help to introduce you to the UK system. http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/ http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/
  7. Welcome to the LOC Plenty of breakers on ebay if you care to look or you could PM benfur on here,he breaks LS400s.
  8. Hi welcome to the LOC Try this http://www.clublexus.com/forums/car-chat/73068-keyless-remote-programming.html
  9. The LCD screens have really dropped in price looking on ebay.com $45.00 but if you do order one make sure it is for the RHD model as the LHD US ones have the clock and AC displays reversed and will not work in UK spec cars without some serious rewiring. This guy does the UK spec ones on request http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lexus-Climate-Control-LCD-LS400-SC400-SC300-LS-SC-New-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1e5e079f5eQQitemZ130426576734QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_645wt_1167 If you want it fitting PM me If you are still after an aerial send a PM to benfur (Maurice) as he may have a good working one for a reasonable price.
  10. Hi and welcome to the LOC albeit under dire circumstances. As Rory suggests try gently rocking the steering wheel side to side whilst jiggling the key. Another possibility is if the car is automatic, is it in park as my LS won't allow the key to come out unless it is. Last resort is a mobile auto locksmith.
  11. Just done mine too Lexus originals £120.00 the pair, self fitted, only and first thing to fail an MOT since import 5 years ago
  12. I've never been to Palmers Green is it a Golf Course? I've got an old boiler here if you want one,got to go she's coming over to me!!!!!
  13. I feel for you in one respect as my 1st car a 1961 Mini cost me £100 and the insurance was also £100 TPFT but that was nearly 35 years ago, I recently sold my late Dad's car to a young lad of 21 the car was a standard 1.4 Rover 25 on an X plate bought the car for 1200 and cost £800.00 to insure,I don't know if that was fully Comp or not. If I were not over 50 with 9 years protected no claims bonus I wouldn't even have considered a Lexus but can cope with £300.00 fully comp. For me from a battered Mini to an LS400 took 30 years. On the other hand using your Dad's insurance is a little iffy,as others have said who is the main driver as you seem, given the past problems with the squeak amongst others to be mostly driving it around or to the garage to have nitrogen put in the tyres or fitting modified parts e.g "Mod's up to now are: Sports Grille and Darker Rear lights and also Tinted Windows all round and Nitrogen filled Tyres and K&N Panel Filter....Still more to come soon...." You must have a very understanding Dad letting you fit all these mods to his car and allowing you to fit planned future ones! Mine didn't let me even drive his. I assume your Dad had also declared these mods to the insurance company? Your yearly insurance cost is nearly as much as I paid for my LS. I sympatise in some respects but get your own insurance policy and in 5 years time if you keep a clean sheet you will benefit from more reasonable policy costs and may be able to afford an ISF
  14. Hi, I have read somewhere (but cannot remember where, will post up if I do) that there is a known problem with the "power convertor/invertor" or something similar which is affecting Hybrid models. If it is BRACE YOURSELF!
  15. Update! I PM'd Ormi who kindly replied quickly and took his advice of using a hammer in type ball joint splitter. After finally locating one (everyone was out of stock must be a popular pastime) I was ready to go except it was too small a gap between the fork to fit around the joint. After modifying it with an angle grinder ( I like the sparks!) it was then a good fit and with it positioned I hit it with a large hammer, three strikes and it was out!!!!!! Fitted the new joint, reassembled, all correctly torqued, new split pins and back tomorrow for the retest. Thanks again to Ormi for the excellent advice.
  16. Thank you for the replies. Have now checked with Lexus and they say 33psi on the front and 36 (38 if loaded) on the rear. Not many 100mph opportunities... Will try this and let you all know. You are going to try driving at over 100mph and let us know? lol
  17. With the recent LS430 topic "Your transmission has melted Sir" diagnosis by a Lexus dealer and the consequent fight to get it replaced after they did a transmission oil flush I would think hard about it. Does sound like an electronic control fault as opposed to a mechanical with it working OK for a while,so that leaves the ECU,wiring and shift solenoids. Have you had a transmission diagnosis done to see if any codes flag up? BTW Welcome to the LOC.
  18. You'll need the iPad for yourself when she finds out you have bought her an iRon for a birthday present and thumps you! I bought my wife a new tumble dryer once for Christmas it took the fire crew 2 hours to remove the door from around my neck!
  19. According to the book based on 255/60R16 97V Normal use with up to four passengers 30psi all round Vehicle at maximum load capacity 32psi all round. Speeds above 100MPH add 12psi up to maximum of tyre max pressure rating printed on sidewall of the tyre
  20. PM Janey and nicely ask her to update your status to Gold but don't mention my name!!! lol
  21. Quote from the KF website "Kwik Fit guarantees purchased brake pads or shoes against accidental damage, wear and defects for as long as you own your car, provided you authorise all work identified as being required, during or at any future brake inspection." In other words if for example you have a seized caliper pin this will have to be authorised to be replaced before they replace the pads under the lifetime warranty, this will probably mean a new caliper complete, note the words "all work" this could mean tyres, exhausts really anything KF do that could be deemed faulty. Conclusion.... yes they will replace your pads under the life time warranty but before they do you will also need as it is "identified as being required" 5 new tyres,a complete exhaust system, new alternator and battery. Hmmmmmm
  22. Well having got the parts this morning I decided to go ahead and fit them myself using the tutorial. Passenger side went well and was done in about 90 minutes. However the drivers side has turned into a complete nightmare!! All went well until it came to splitting the ball joint off the lower arm,I managed to break the screw type ball joint splitter!I then tried the hammer approach followed by a jack under the joint but even with the full weight of the car on the joint it will not release from the lower arm, blowlamp more (bigger) hammer and still stuck firm, used a can of WD40 even but its fast. Looks like I will have to remove the whole lower arm and replace it unless someone has any more ideas?
  23. Only Platinum members are allowed to sell iPads on the forums I'm going to tell Janey who will beat you severely lol Are you selling on a First come First Aid basis!!!!
  24. Hi and welcome to the LOC. Once you have Gold membership you can put any unwanted parts from the donor car on the for sale section.
  25. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I cannot advise on extended warranties as mine is well out at 16 years old but on a car the age of yours I would seriously consider it for the peace of mind, even a minor problem can be big money with a Lexus. What I would do is shop around,I don't know if the cost is fixed by the dealers but with the present economic situation Lexus seem to be discounting to attract new business and it may be worth haggling the price.
