  1. Hi, Although for the earlier models this may help you http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/transmission/
  2. Hi, I am not too sure with the LS430 but the LS400 uses an 8 inch sub woofer, You need to know the speaker diameter, the impedance and make sure you have sufficient depth to fit a replacement, are you sure it is the speaker as it may be the sub amplifier. LS430's are a bit rare for spares but some internet breakers will do a countrywide search for you.
  3. Hi and welcome to the LOC Engine oil is normally 5w-30 I use fully synthetic from Morissons Petrol stations (Texaco Havoline at 16.99) The clunking noise can also be caused by worn top suspension wishbones. If you didn't get the owners handbook they sometimes appear on eBay but I also seem to remember they can be downloaded free somewhere but I would get one as there is all the information in there you will need regarding fluids and controls.
  4. It would seem that the key you have is the "valet" key which allows driving of the car but will not open the boot or glovebox for security/privacy reasons. To programme a new key you need the master key which you probably don't have given the above. It may be the only option that you will have to go to a Lexus dealer where they may be able to provide a master key from you VIN plate but be prepared for the price shock! Finally welcome to the LOC
  5. All I know is that the pipe runs from the rear part of the inlet plenum chamber and then down to the exhaust so you should be able to see the top part looking to the rear of the engine bay and the other from underneath the car. I cannot give you the exact locations as mine is a JDM and the EGR system is not fitted in Japan (one less thing to go wrong!)
  6. It may be worth sending a PM to Maurice (benfur) as he breaks LS400s and has probably removed a series III cluster, knowing Lexus if there are no screws it clips on.
  7. Normally it is just the lock which causes the problem when the plunger fails to disengage and replacing the steering lock normally provides the cure but we are talking Lexus here. Please don't be offended as I assume you and the dealer have tried this but have you put the key in the lock and gently wobbled the steering wheel whilst trying to turn the key?. I have looked at the LS430 part numbers and the last of the LS400 series and none of the part numbers match so we can assume they are different. There were also 3 types of steering column fitted to the LS430 and you would need to get the correct replacement. 45250-50172 08/2001 to 07/2002 45250-50172 08/2002 to 08/2002 45250-50173 08/2002 to production end The LS430 uses the Smart Key system not used on the LS400 models which would confirm they are not interchangeable. As you say getting a second hand replacement is not going to be easy there are many internet breakers where you can enquire for specific parts, but you need to ensure it is the correct one, also bear in mind if you do find a suitable part if the vehicle has been involved in a frontal impact there may be damage to the column. The steering column can be fully disassembled and all the individual parts are obtainable so it may be more cost effective to remove the column and find a steering specialist who may be able to repair your own column. Finally welcome to the LOC :D
  8. I didn't know that was legal,I thought as a business the distance selling regulations mean you can change your mind within 14 days and ask for a refund,it is up to the seller to collect the item or am I completely wrong here.
  9. Ola Mart welcome to the LOC
  10. Hi have you checked the EGR pipe that runs from the back of the plenum chamber to the exhaust as this commonly fractures giving an exhaust blow, a pig of a job to do but may be worth investigating. If it has fractured check you engine mounts as it is normally excess engine movement that starts it all off.
  11. Hi and welcome to the LOC. There is always the possibility of master cylinder seal damage if you pushed the calliper pistons back without opening the bleed nipple 1st as this could result in the seals being turned inside out giving you the problem you now have. As Royt says you can get a master cylinder seal kit and this may be your cheapest option providing you are confident in doing the job. I assume you didn't allow the reservoir to empty completely during the bleeding process. You can also buy pressure bleeding kits which ensures no air remains in the brake system and makes the whole job a lot easier as you only have to open the bleed nipples until there are no more air bubbles present. I see you are in the Nottingham area,if you need some help I may be able to get over PM me.
  12. We've moved slightly off topic here but for the new member asking about the key fobs I would recommend the batteries are replaced in all the fobs, don't take too long replacing them once the old battery is removed or they can de-programme.Do one at a time and test before starting the next you don't want to replace the batteries then find all your fobs have decided not to work! The proceedure should be shown in your handbook but if you have any doubts as to your technical ability ask your dealer if they will replace them, this will obviously cost you but if anything goes wrong it will be their problem. I think the batteries are supposed to be replaced at Lexus service times but this may have not been the case.
  13. Did neither of you try contacting benfur (Maurice) he normally has a good selection of used LS spares all delivered fast and at a good price.
  14. There is a known problem with the tachometer needle sticking and this may also apply to the speedo. When manufactured both needle spindles were lubricated with thin machine oil and an excess of this caused the sticky needles, the cure was to remove this excess oil with a cotton bud, this of course means stripping down the pod to gain access. If you give the dashboard above the pod a sharp tap on the top it normally frees off the needle. Follow the link below and have a look at post # 59 http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/225935-how-to-fix-your-speedo-needle-when-it-does-not-work-4.html
  15. Did you ever work at the Derby Toyota factory they work on a "just in time" basis regarding spares deliveries, you always seem to just sort things in the nick of time! lol
  16. It depends on whether you want genuine Lexus/Toyota or a good equivalent. Lexus charge around £40.00 just for the cambelt,Blueprint are considered excellent alternatives by many. Bear in mind that UK customs may grab your bargain US spares and add import duty and VAT to the price plus there is a "handling fee"
  17. Before doing anything else have you confirmed that you have been supplied with the correct part and not the later control arm? Plastic Orange has a thread on here at the moment about the upper arms he bought on eBay which have failed within 4 months! So be wary of quality from other sources. There were some genuine Lexus arms on eBay some time ago at around £500.00 a pair. If the ball joint is OK have you considered rebushing the existing arm? Finally you could PM Benfur (Maurice) and see if he has a good used replacement.
  18. Update. The seller has been in touch and wasn't in for a Sunday collection so sent me an email this morning saying I could collect this afternoon but unfortunately didn't provide any collection address or phone number. So here I am waiting patiently to go and get them when I have a little more detail than Leeds/Bradford Having said that I am also waiting for UPS with a delivery so can't go anywhere just yet anyway. I could go and do some gardening but then may miss the UPS guy. Boring.boring, bored
  19. It looks clean but I would be concerned about the exhaust blowing is it the same flange problem as you already have on yours or maybe the EGR pipe (what a pig to replace I heard!) If the dash is blinky that's another &75.00 to fix unless you can DIY also the LCD on the climate control will probably be stuffed so more cash needed there. The phone number is Nottingham not far from me so if you are still serious let me know and I will go and take a look at it in the flesh for you and report back ( no liability accepted if you buy of course) Another concern however is FLSH up to 2007 so where and what has been done in between?? When it says "recently serviced" what exactly does that mean cheap oil and filter? A plus point ( yes there is one!) is you should be able to get that asking price down given the known defects, the extra ones you will find and the current market for large gas guzzling cars :winky:
  20. One thing nobody else has mentioned are the door courtesy light switches, they do become erratic after a few years but can normally be sorted by removing them (don't loose the wire inside the bodywork!!) and giving them a good clean with switch cleaner then spray with WD40 working them in and out a few times to distribute the liquid. As for the bumper have you PMd Maurice on this forum his username is benfur I dont know about the later models but he normally has a good stock of spares all I might add at a very reasonable prices!
  21. Yes I was chuffed with the price I had been "watching" them all week and there was only one other bidder,I think the fact they ended at 3.30pm on Saturday helped if it had been in the evening there would have been more last minute bids,I actually put a max bid of £160.00 on them so did really well. I don't know what the tyres are and if they are any good but I will put my own tyres on off my existing collection of rims and may even make some money back on the old tyres if they are saleable. Unfortunately the seller is not back until late tonight so will be collecting hopefully early next week. Once I have them swopped over I will post some pictures up.
  22. Ok with the Chrome peeling off in copious amounts from my Japanese spec wheels I bought some time ago a set of MOMO alloys only to find one had a rather nasty buckle in it, it was the last one to have the tyre swopped over of course so since then I have had my original wheels on the front and the MOMOs on the back with the intention of obtaining another wheel. My search so far has been fruitless as the wheel is no longer made and there are no old stocks so I have once again obtained a set on Fleabay. I just need to collect them now. All comments welcome, bear in mind the car in Lexus Dark silver The pictures have come out small so here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180532158510&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_947
  23. Just looking on Fleabay and came across a nice looking 1993 LS unfortunately the interior has got some problems according to the description. "This car has so many buttons it would take all day to list everything, but they all work. Full leather interior No stains or leather or carpeting You also get a spare key though there's only 1 remote fob" Also this if you fancy a brake upgrade. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ls400-4-pot-caliper-upgrade-supra-soarer-/260636495492?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3caf254e84#ht_500wt_947
