  1. Agree with above comment, it is apparently possible to fit the rotor arms 180 degrees out so I would set the timing marks up and recheck.
  2. " Best Product To Get Rid Of Chips And Door Ding Marks IS200 " A full respray :P Sorry couldn't resist, mine has scratches all over the roof so might try the above kit myself.
  3. The're great unless your battery goes flat eh Colin!!!! :D
  4. I am guessing that you have an LS400 post 1994 build year that is cranking but not firing? The fact that you have no signal to both ignition amplifiers would suggest a common component. The device used to tell the ECU what position the engine is in at any given time (so it can provide the spark to each cylinder at the correct time) is the crankshaft sensor so I would 1st check this item and its associated wiring, it is not uncommon for these to fail or the wiring be damaged by the nearby sepentine belt if not correctly dressed. The other fault code probably has no relation to the above fault but may indicate the oxygen sensor is past its sell by date. Also bear in mind although useful in helping to diagnose problems fault codes can sometimes be misleading and a little detective work and a multimeter are sometimes the better option. With modern cars today's mechanic needs to be an electronics engineer as well, I knew one day that old oscilloscope of mine would come in useful again!
  5. Sorry but have to agree with other members in that the transmission is on its way out, the only other possibility is that you may have disturbed the wiring to the shift solenoids when you dropped the sump pan but it is unlikely. On a more positive note you should be able to source a replacement box easier than for a 430 in fact if you PM forum member benfur (Maurice) he normally has some known good transmissions for sale at very reasonable prices but make sure you get the torque converter for the same box
  6. I've received one this morning from Lexus Derby. Bad news I will be away on the date so if anyone would like to take up the offer it is being held as an "Open Road" event at the Staunton Harold Estate near Ashby de la Zouch Leicestershire on 10/06/2010. The full range including the ISF will be there to drive If you would like to go please PM me and I will register your details.
  7. Is this the part that has the two cut out air vents that supply the extra cooling to the front discs?
  8. Hi Colin I Googled "access to Lexus LS430 flat battery" and this topic was the 1st up!!! http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=52648
  9. Go onto Ebay and type in Lexus LS400 and you will find them on CD ROM. Occasionally you may find the original factory hard copy manuals.
  10. I think that Jay555 is probably refering to the ballast unit required to run the HID lamps on the LS430. As others have suggested an intermittent fault could be due to a faulty wiring connection either to the ballast unit or the bulb so I would check this out 1st before spending money on a guesstimated fault.
  11. I don't know if the series 4 has the same setup but the courtesy light switches on the earlier models have caused similar problems in the past.
  12. Buypartsby is the internet division of Sutton Auto Factors near Nottingham but I wonder if the shop prices are the same as I only live 6 miles away.
  13. I have a "personal" Toyota Celsior in a scrapyard near to me, the reason I say personal is that no-one has ever asked for a part off it except me and the parts I have taken off are stored as spares "just in case"
  14. If you haven't already got them buy a set of removable mats ( either genuine Lexus or some decent after market ones) these will protect your floor areas and are easier to remove and clean if they do get soiled. I bought one of those Vax carpet shampoo vacuums from Aldi a while ago they are very good but due to the pipe and head size it can be restrictive in the car. As Janie mentioned the 1001 type foam cleaners are good. I also bought some "Dash Wipes" from Aldi this week haven't tried them yet though. Also don't forget they are also doing Air Con aerosol cleaners for £1.99 this week. For the sill trims I use Foaming Cleaner aerosol and an old toothbrush to remove the ground in dirt especially the rubber off the soles of shoes then wipe over with a clean damp cloth.
  15. We did a long string recently on another of these daft products. They never do what they claim. Junk. The "Powerband" was I think the best device ever listed on Ebay I can't wait to list my "Dehydrated Water" so simple you just add water to use!!!! Just waiting for the world wide patent!
  16. Generally the crankshaft position sensor is located close to the crankshaft pulley at the bottom of the engine. Due to the fact the crank pulley has to be removed to replace the timing belt there is as other has said a good chance the plug and/or wiring have been disturbed or damaged during the belt change, the fact it is intermittant seems to reinforce this theory. When CPS fail completely the engine normally fails to start at all. I would get underneath and have a good look around, check the wiring, plug and make sure the fixing bolt(s) are secure. Below is a typical layout.
  17. My opinion is utter tosh!!! Too many unbacked claims ( the 2 links provided go to their website not to the organisations listed) They are suitable for engines over 2000cc yet all the claimed tests were done on smaller engines. The mileage figures for the "test vehicles" show initial before fitting the device figures thar suggest there must have been a hole in the fuel tank!!!! The only claim they aren't making is that you can travel in time with this "Hi Grade" Flux capacitor originally developed by Delorean in Back to the Future.
  18. They say water and electricity don't mix, going from experience they actually do in a Citroen as water in my Belingo entered the "control computer" via a dodgy windscreen seal and cost over 500 pounds to put right. Add to the fact that they are renowned for poor electrics ( experience of an XM that always thought a rear light was out) and the indicator/wiper stalks go loose and floopy. When it comes to reliability and build quality Citroen come bottom in my humble opinion.
  19. Hi and welcome to the UK LOC, Here in the UK we still tend to use the old BHP figures and I think the standard 1994 LS is 250 BHP. The standard engine can I believe handle 5/600 BHP without serious modifications due to the fact it has a 6 main bearing crank. Is yours the Lexus or the Toyota Celsior JDM model as the latter seem more common in Australia? They also produced a supercharged model!!!! I think you can delimit the top speed by cutting a link in the speed control computer and you may find more info on this at www.soarercentral.com look for the Celsior section.
  20. My LS is ready for it's oil and filter change again so whilst paying for fuel I noticed that all Texaco oil ( 5 ltrs) is 1/2 price in Morrisons garage shops. I use their fully synth 5-30 which is normally 16.95 but bought 2 today for the same price. Thought this may be a money saver for other members. I have been using it since I bought the car and have had no problems.
  21. If anyone is considering buying the aerosol AC type cleaner Aldi are doing one starting on Monday April 5th for just £1.99, it goes pretty quick normally and probably faster than ever now I've told all members!!!!
  22. I've just had another idea! There have been cases previously where the main 120A engine fuse has blown when refitting the battery, I can't remember if it causes the symptoms you have but maybe worth a look. It's located in the engine bay fuse box and has a see through top ( exact location details should be on the underside of the fuse cover).
  23. When you have followed the proceedure suggested and have locked the car have you tried unlocking it with the key in the lock and not using the remote?
  24. Common problem after jump starts check the 120A fuse in the engine bay fusebox, chances are it's blown. if you need info on replacing it post back.
  25. As above, the aerial is integrated into the rear screen heater,I think all JDM models are the same as mine is a 94 and has the integrated aerial.
