  1. Hi, Just checked my 1994 (same model) and the engine management light does come on with the ignition then goes out when the engine is started. I wouldn't think checking the codes with the engine running would create any problems the ECU is live when the ignition is turned on so the only difference is the engine actually running. Is the engine running on all cylinders? it sounds like it is in LHM (Limp Home Mode) with it only revving to 2000, the AFM does fail on this model so it may be worth checking.
  2. Probably not as they normally require proof of ownership because the information may come under the Data Protection Act,if the cars have full Lexus service history this should be noted in the service book and a sticker attached to the cam cover/surrounding area. If the work has not been carried out you could use this as a bargaining factor when coming to a price. Make sure the service history is up to date. Have a look for uneven tyre wear on the car as geometry has been a problem here, some sellers may swap tyres front to back to disguise this so look carefully. During the test drive (should be at least 30 minutes) listen for any clunks which may indicate suspension problems.
  3. First of all welcome to the LOC Ok the 1993 model has the "paperclip" diagnostic system so you don't need a fault code reader just a shorting link and read the codes as blinking lights, the link below explains the proceedure. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html You need to do this 1st to gain an idea where the fault may be. If you get to the point of scrapping the car let me know first I am always up for a challenge.
  4. It would appear that the PCD on the LS460 is 120 as opposed to the previous 114.3 this would suggest most BMW and Merc wheels would fit, this does not of course take into account other variables like offset and bore.
  5. Trust in Toyota has been greatly diminished since the last fiasco but when a Corporate company fails to believe you and another professional (the AA) it is beyond comprehension. I am not entirely sure here but the last throttle problem with the sticky pedal which needed the modification was manufactured in China,my question is where have these faulty brake master cylinders manufactured? Japanese engineering is known for its precision and high quality but it would appear that due to costs more and more parts are being made in other far eastern countries where material quality, tolerances and quality control could be some what lax. In my personal opinion a company which appears to put profits before safety is a company to avoid.
  6. Hi and welcome to the LOC. I wouldn't want your insurance premiums! lol I may see you around Mansfield or Sutton in Ashfield or Castle Donnington or at AvailableCar.com lol.
  7. Hi Ed, Oil filter is accessed from underneath located on passenger side of engine about halfway along,it's best to completely remove the under engine cover (mixture of bolts and crosshead screws) Sump drain plug is at rear of sump. Recommended oil is 5w-30 I use Havoline Fully Synthetic from Morrissons Petrol stations at around £17.00/5 litres ( just enough). I also use a genuine Toyota filter around £12.00 from Lexus including a new sump plug washer. Filter is mounted horizontally so only half fill with fresh oil to prime or you will spill oil when fitting, make sure the old seal comes off with old filter, apply a little fresh oil to new seal and hand tighten only.

    Hey

Hi Danielle, Welcome to the LOC
  9. Sounds suspect to me,do you have the V5C? Most JDM vehicles are not exported until the 1st japanese test is due.
  10. Hi, Can't help with the fitting but Lexus price is 184.00 Euros part # 90981-20005 based on RX300 2003 on, but try these guys http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/lexus-headlight-bulbs.html?gclid=CNLchIKl3aQCFdv92AodEzS5LA or if you have the bulb type ebay Just had a look on the exploded diagram ,headlight assy is secured with 3 bolts, one centre top,one on LHS (both fit vertically) and another which fits into the housing horizontally on the RHS (this is for the nearside headlamp)
  11. If you read and decipher the description it says it's starting price is the same as the LPG conversion i.e £1700.00
  12. Upload your photos to a hosting site a lot of us use www.photobucket.com then use the direct link,I think it the img one, copy it then paste it onto your post. Or you can click on Attach This File in the attachments section below where you write your thread.
  13. Found a new set on ebay for around £20.00 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LEXUS-GS300-3-0i-2JZGE-1998-HT-IGNITION-LEADS-801-/320594438693?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4aa4eaea25#ht_500wt_922 or there are some being broken on there.
  14. It may be hard to find 2nd hand parts but try the internet breakers who search the country for you. http://www.textspares.co.uk/ModelDetails/1178/1154/Lexus-SC-430 Lexus dealers sometimes surprise with parts prices and will haggle so give them a call, there is a Lexus dealer on this forum who discounts.
  15. I used to love the Motor Show,my Dad used to take me to Earls Court when I was younger then I always took myself to the NEC in later years. There is the Footman James Classic Car Show at the NEC 12-14th November 2010 (probably the only motor show where you can still see old but nevertheless British cars) One thing has surprised me there is no LOC stand,my 1994 LS is apparently becoming a classic. Perhaps something could be arranged for next year I wouldn't mind getting involved.
  16. Yours has been looked after with service history Chris and therefore well worth the asking price plus being a Gold member of the LOC adds thousands to the value!
  17. Be polite,do not hijack another thread on a completely different subject, post in the correct forum, then a little courtesy shown may get you the answer to your question.
  18. Spotted this whilst browsing,no service history, looks like a dealer in disguise with start price (£9895.00) and given past sales and feedback. Like the way the price is calculated, take a standard 98 LS400 average value, add the cost of LPG conversion, add the cost of servicing/repairs = start price! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LPG-50-MPG-LEXUS-LS400-AUTO-LCD-SAT-NAV-TOUCH-SCREEN-/140465524831?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item20b465d05f#ht_1209wt_1141
  19. Hi, My JDM import has no EGR system fitted as they are not a requirement in Japan, it has passed it's emissions test every year and has had no running problems without it so I would remove the system and blank it off,it seems to create more problems than it cures. The only exception to this is turbocharged engines where the EGR does have a cooling effect on the charger thus prolonging its life.
  20. EGR pipe is top right on the exploded diagram link below. It is the concertina section that normal cracks, can be welded, if it has cracked check your engine mounts as it has been suggested if these are worn it is excessive engine movement which fractures the EGR pipe. http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/components/1992-lexus-ls400~exhaust-gas-recirculation-system-25-01-4060.html
  21. Sorry didn't notice it was a 430 even the boot badge has a different part number lol. Just looked at exploded diagram on toyodiy, fancy putting the screws behind the wheel.
  22. Hi, Never heard of having to remove the wheel when doing this repair there are screws on the top which are accessible as suggested by turning the steering wheel. Have a look at the link below And this one. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-400-300/49783-tilt-steering-repair.html
  23. Welcome back I am running OS 10.5.8 with safari without problems.
