  1. Hi, Sounds like this is a grey import model, not sure about the sat nav it may be just a matter of replacing the disc, radio should work but only pick up radio 2 on FM as the FM band is different in Japan but you can buy frequency shifters on Fleabay for around a fiver, TV again operates on different frequencies and the sound system is not compatable with UK, having said that it is analogue anyway so will be completely useless when the digital switchover occurs. It sems a lot of work and money for a short term gain.
  2. Hi and welcome to the LOC. Sounds like you have a decent example of the LS there with a reasonable mileage for the year. A good site for resources is www.lexls.com ( look under tutorials). There is a method for resyncing the key fobs to the car, the central locking motors do fail but having replaced my passenger side it's not a difficult job. Repair the PS leak before it takes out the alternator it's normally just the O ring seal on the reservoir, a couple of quid from Lexus.
  3. Very true and 8 out of 10 cats prefer Whiskers
  4. I hope they are better than the Chinese factory made Toyota throttle pedals!!!! "Ling Long and prosper Mr.Spock"............. I think they are vulcanised tyres
  5. The most common cause of ABS faults on any car are the wheel sensors, the wiring to them and the accumulation of road crud that collects on both the sensors and the toothed wheel attached to the hub from which the sensor gets its signal to determine if a wheel is turning or locked up. There is normally only 1 bolt securing the sensor and the gap between it and the toothed wheel is preset and not adjustable. What happens is road dirt and magnetic particles collect on the end of the sensor giving an incorrect gap which causes the problem, a good clean normally helps. Fronts are more suseptible than the rears. The other possibility is a damaged tooth wheel ( missing or chipped teeth) but this is less common
  6. Oh so now you want to know how I repaired my worn out knob!!!!!! Ok. I bought the dye from a company called Dynamix dyes ( they sell on fleabay). The colour is actually for a BMW but as I said earlier it was a reasonable match to my original colour and seems to blend well with the wood trim. I received a small probably 10ml plastic bottle of the stuff ( if you look at the picture the bottle is above the trac switch) and carefully applied with a piece of folded kitchen towel 3 coats allowing overnight for each to dry. I think maybe 2 more coats will further enhance the job. It does go a long way and there is still more then 50% of the dye remaining. I did contact the company a while ago and if you can send a sample of the leather to them they will make a matched dye for you, the problem I had was there was no spare material to send a sample hence the near match. They do larger amounts for full seats back and front or if you have an extra large knob Website http://www.dynamixdyes.com/
  7. It has always annoyed me that the shift knob on my LS has the usual worn finish over the top section and having researched various options including a recover I decided to try some leather paint. Not being able without providing a sample to get the exact colour match I ordered as close in colour as I could get off the shelf. The picture shows the result after 3 coats. All in all for £5.00 I am quite pleased.
  8. Hi welcome to the LOC. All common problems well documented on the forum. Sunroof, check the seal and the drain tubes. Boot, check and reseal the rubber seal and check the seals on the rear light clusters reseal as required. Door/alarm, check the courtesy light door switches, remove and spray with contact cleaner/WD40 work them in and out a few times and refit ( don't lose the wiring in the door) As I said search the forums for more info.
  9. I have had my imported Celsior for just over 4 years now, came into the UK as one previous Japanese company owner with certified 38,000 miles ( converted figure). Apart from regular DIY servicing and replacing wear and tear items including a rebuild of the original starter motor I have had no problems, no advisories on an MOT and extremely reliable service. There is no rust on the body or below. I may have just been lucky. The only thing I did replace was the audio system. The later models may be more of a problem with the Sat nav and TV being Japanese spec and conversion would be expensive if possible.
  10. All sorted: turns out the radar for the cruise control is behind the emblem on the front grille and can't work in snow or very heavy rain and spray. My car's not knackered after all! Cheers, Adi Mine is a 1994 import and has a laser guided rocket launcher behind the front grill badge, the JDM models are way in advance! Seriously glad you "sorted" it I wouldn't imagine fixing a genuine fault on that system would be cheap and thanks for letting other members know the problem, I may be able to afford a 460 in 10 years time but now know the system won't work in heavy rain or snow.
  11. That sounds like the Haven Inn on the A52??? Another thing as well as the other members have suggested is the pollen filter causing condensation because if it is old and clogged it prevents good air circulation.
  12. I can't seem to log onto Toyodiy anyone else having problems?
  13. I know the problem as mine is an imported Celsior and it used to be "that's a special order part" now I get the part number 1st and give them that and since then I have had no problems. When you say yaw sensor that sounds like the height sensors and if so yes there have been problems with failures but check the linkage to them as they often seize/fail
  14. I was on Firefox until Clint Eastwood stole it! No problems here with latest Firefox on XP
  15. You haven't seen Lexus Dealer prices yet!!!!lol Welcome to the LOC
  16. There are a couple of things you can do to help diagnose the problem. If you have a local friendly garage which does MOTs ask them to put the exhaust gas probe into the expansion tank ( not in the coolant itself) with the engine running, if there are exhaust gases present they will show up on the analyser. The other test is to have the cooling system pressure tested. When was the water pump replaced?Does the temperature gauge read normal?
  17. Yeah I'm sure it'll be fine, it looks like it could actually be a useful tool - just out of curiosity how much is the parking going to cost you? Yep Steves right costing me a tenner. A fair price I think If you give me the exact address where you leave the car and leave the keys on top of the front nearside tyre I will check it all out for you Seriously I do a similar thing when I fly from East Midlands Airport in that I have a friend who lives in nearby Castle Donnington, I go to the airport and leave the other half and the luggage(mainly hers!) at the terminal, I then drive to my friends, leave the car and spare key with her then catch the airport shuttle bus back to the airport. On our return we get a taxi back to the house and collect the car. Costs me a bottle of spirits, duty free of course!
  18. Found this to help you, the last post explains how to do the fuse job. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=33401
  19. I don't know when Toyota moved from OBDii to Toyota K/CAN bus systems (JDM models seem to be in advance of the rest of the world) but this may be why you cannot connect up a code reader, it may be worth ring a Lexus Dealer and see if they will tell you which system you have then finding a local specialist to perform the diagnosis Unfortunately the "paper clip" method is for earlier models, not for yours.
  20. The original finish seems to be semi matt black I got a small aerosol of it from Wilkinsons ( Wilcos) to do the windscreen trim and it came out OK it's called "plasti-kote" fast dry enamel. I wouldn't try it with the present temperatures or moisture in the air though.
  21. This is for the 94 model but should give you the basics http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/body/fdoorpanel.html
  22. If it has all the above problems ask the owner to give you money to take it off his hands
  23. No problem always glad to help and show off my excellent photographic skills Just thought I pulled the rubber boot back off the cable to clarify but I don't think I refitted it as the bonnet struts are definately going this year as it closed itself twice and I rushed a bit to avoid a headache!!!!
  24. The LCD panel was gone on mine at purchase but I had the Lexus Approved 16 year warranty on the car so it was quickly sorted Seriously I bought the replacement LCD from the USA for around £40.00 and repaired it myself. The cluster is original I think and has not yet failed if it should again a couple of capacitors which I will fit myself should sort it. Same with the PS valve still original and still working if it does go it will be bypassed. Can't grumble there aren't many cars of this age requiring such little and cheap repairs ( if you can DIY).
