  1. Funny quirk with importing a car from Japan. If you go and live there for at least a year, buy a car there and own it for at least six months then return to the UK with it you don’t have to pay any import duty and VAT. So what you need is a mate who is going to work there for a year, get him or her to buy a nice ISF, bring it back with them and then sell it to you 😀
  2. Just seen this 😀 Just make sure that whoever fits the rear fog lights integrates them into the rear clusters and doesn’t fit a stand alone universal on the rear bumper which seems to be the norm with JDM people carrier imports!
  3. Hi Claudio and welcome to the LOC. Have you checked fuse # 7 in the engine bay fuse box as it seems to effect most of the items you mention? https://fuse-box.info/lexus/lexus-is200d-is220d-is250d-xu20-2010-2013-fuses
  4. Hi Stephen and welcome to the LOC. No programming required just plug and play, try and make sure the mirror glass is more or less centred in the up/down and left/right positions after fitting to ensure easy initial remote adjustment.
  5. My wife was upset when I bought myself a new iPad, to make amends I bought her an iRon.
  6. I sold my Dyson vacuum a few months ago due to lack of use, it was just stuck in the cupboard gathering dust. 😀
  7. Re vacuum cleaners did all that power limitation stuff actually kick in meaning the end of 2000w super suction models?
  8. Mine may be Toyota badged but with just 80,000 miles and having paid less than a quarter of the price of this one including the suspension conversion, factory stainless steel exhaust and lots of other JDM extras I’m very happy. Almost a copy cat with the dark alloys and same colour although I think it is Dark Blue Mica 8P8 not Canterbury Blue as suggested.
  9. This may help although you cannot expand the image external of this post. Cables circled.
  10. As Colin suggests I totally agree, the toothed rings on the hub or “Reluctor rings” to give them the correct name have been known to crack due to age and exposure to the elements or a build up of rust and crud between the teeth which then leads to error codes due to a change in the critical air gap between the ring and ABS pick up coil. Again as Colin advises remove the ABS sensor and using a torch look down the hole looking for crud and damage whilst slowing turning the hub. Also if you have a multimeter measure the resistance of the sensor, if it reads open circuit it’s duff. The reluctor rings are generally available to buy as a separate item just google “Lexus Reluctor rings”
  11. Hello Paul and welcome to the LOC. Have you checked the battery voltage since the work was carried out, firstly the “standing voltage” when the engine and ignition are both off, then with the engine running at idle and finally with the engine RPM between 1500-2000? Car alternators produce 3 phase sinusoidal AC which is then rectified by 3 sets of half wave rectifiers ( 1 set per phase) to produce the DC supply required. After rectification a small amount of the AC component known as ripple is still present but tends to be “smoothed” out by the battery capacitance ( this is the ~~~~ Lexus mentioned to you) The DC output is then regulated by regulator to ensure the output voltage is within tolerances to prevent over or under voltage dependant on the electrical demand of the car and prevent damage to the battery through over charging. The regulator works by rapidly switching the DC output on and off via an electronic circuit. Given that by connecting an additional battery ( effectively increasing the load on the alternator) the voltage stabilises and the strange waveform looking like a square wave I would agree the alternator particularly the internal voltage regulator is faulty. If you could post up those voltages it would help me further to help you.
  12. Yes, I also watched that video, very informative as usual especially as you mention there are KYB parts and Lexus KYB parts.
  13. No problem, pleased to help 😀 When ECUs go faulty they have been known to stop communicating on the CanBus and the diagnostics port so basically stop talking to code readers also. Please keep us updated as to the diagnosis and cause. P.S. What initially made you go towards the EVAP system as being the cause?
  14. There have been reports of the engine ECU failing on the LS430 by one of your own countrymen and giving the symptoms you have. What diagnostic equipment are you using for the code read as Toyota Techstream is the preferred one? Take a look at the link below.
  15. My first JDM import was a 1994 Toyota Celsior purchased in 2006 which served me very well for 16 years until I was given the chance to buy a later 2004 model year by a fellow member which I’ve now had for a couple of years. The 1994 had a converted and certified mileage of 38,000 and with regular servicing only let me down once with a broken rear spring. The 2004 has around 82,000 miles now, was converted to spring struts before purchase and came with the optional factory stainless steel exhaust. The speedometer was changed to a UK spec one also before I purchased it. No sunroof to worry about ( leaks) and wool seats instead of leather. JDM prices have gone through the roof nowadays especially the earlier models if available. This coupled with increased shipping costs mean at least a £10K cost for a decent one.
  16. Hi Howard and welcome to the LOC. I f you google “custom number plates” there are manufacturers who will make you a custom sized one. I had a couple of the Japanese square ones made for my Celsior from this company https://www.tennantsukshop.com One point to bear in mind is to make sure they comply with the BS AU 145e requirements which along with the manufacturer’s name must appear on the bottom right of the plate or you may fail the MOT. In other words don’t get “Show plates”
  17. Also in the 70s a mate had a 3 litre Capri and once took me out on a local dual carriageway for a “ ton up” experience. On reaching the “magic” speed he then said “roundabout in a mile time to start slowing down” ”But it’s a mile away” I exclaimed. His reply was ”At this speed in a 3 litre Capri you don’t touch the brakes!”
  18. Five shillings and sixpence, can collect today if the weather improves around Alfreton. 😀
  19. I think maybe “I’ve not done that many miles since purchasing” is the factor here coupled with the now cooler weather. If the hybrid battery is not charged to the required level the car will attempt to preserve what is available and shut off any non essential demand. Once the engine kicks in, charging commences, the battery level reaches an acceptable level and the light and warning goes out, in your case after 5 minutes. Regarding the oil service if it’s not due yet I would be asking questions at the dealership.
  20. Hi Glyn and welcome to the LOC. As Vlad says complete hub replacement is the way to go, if you want OEM try Amayama.com or aftermarket Rockauto.com. As for which side I would have thought that any wobble would have been picked up during the MOT, you could jack up the rear and spin the wheels but the brake pads rubbing make it difficult to hear bearing whine. The exhaust shield is another good suggestion, being aluminium the bolt hole corrodes allowing it to drop onto the exhaust box, a “penny washer” is the usual fix. You’re welcome to post pictures of your new IS 😀
  21. Could I ask if the car now has a “marker” on it having been stolen, recovered and repaired? If so surely this not only reduces the value of the vehicle but in addition leads to increased insurance premiums.
  22. The next morning all the spaces were empty and the security barrier was later found on the grass verge.
  23. Found this interesting video, I presume it’s a Japanese workshop but all the LS430s in Japan would have been Toyota Celsiors before 2006.
  24. Agreed, there appears to be no such problem there and I always smile when my ES taxi arrives 😀
  25. Interesting comparison to what JLR are doing for their customers, anyone here spoken to the CEO of Toyota/Lexus?
