  1. Further north we have Nottinghamshire County Council who provide an interactive map showing reports on potholes and the current status for each report. This makes it easy to determine if a pothole has been previously reported and the present status. Derbyshire County Council also have online reporting but update any reports by email so you are unable to tell if other reports for the same pothole have been submitted. Interestingly DCC actually state their responsibilities which to me implies liability should any damage occur due to failing in their duty of care. The problem is because of prior neglect there are so many potholes it would be a full time job just reporting them all! When I do submit a report I always remind the local authority responsible of their Duty of Care and subsequent liability should any damage occur to my car once the report has been confirmed by them.
  2. Upper Control Arms ball joints and Lower Ball Joints I would look at first.
  3. To be fair the exhaust on the LS400s were factory stainless steel with the exception of the Y pipe so will all look this good. How much crud has accumulated inside the rear wheel arch lips is a better indication of care along with the condition of the rear subframe and suspension components. I must confess the driver’s seat looks as new with none of the cracking or wear normally present.
  4. It sounds like the HV contactors, basically heavy duty relays, seem to remember reading about them and how to repair somewhere. It may be worth asking Hybrid Batteries Solutions who are on this forum. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-rx400h-phase-2-hybrid-battery-relay/ Could you confirm the year of your RX400h?
  5. It sounds like the check assembly, the part between the hinges which prevents the door opening beyond a set point.
  6. Which posts Derek, I can’t tell from your posts profile?
  7. The IS200s have now reached the stage where there are more spares than cars remaining on the road so £400.00 is a little optimistic for the wheels and tyres unless they are both immaculate and fitted with new tyres. I have a full set in my shed, been there years so tyres will be no good now and probably worth more weighed in as scrap. ( Free to collect if anyone wants them).
  8. Funnily enough I still remember the launch evening at Lexus Derby for the GS450h when one of the invitees suggested they try to fit the Lexus branded golf trolley and clubs in the boot. That was a viral YouTube moment missed 😀
  9. Hi Matt and welcome to the LOC. Amayama are listing at just under £200.00 shipped other than that it’s finding a good used one from a write off and I think they are model specific.
  10. I was initially tempted but then noticed the torch had been removed from the plastic wrapping 😀
  11. Carelessness and incompetence are the 2 words I would use to describe this event, I would also check the tyres are also fitted the correct way around if directional, the pressures and the wheel nut torque.
  12. Common problem read the link below regarding the earth connections. Please make sure you disconnect the battery and wait at least 10 minutes when disconnecting or reconnecting any yellow airbag plugs!
  13. Hi Jayne and welcome to the LOC. If you need any help just ask, there is a dedicated forum section for Lexus cars for sale. When you have the car’s details we can sort this for you so don’t fret 😀
  14. UK government “You must buy an electric car!” UK Insurers “We don’t provide cover for electric cars” What time is the number 15 bus due?
  15. You need a garage that has a ramp with “shuffle plates” the car is driven on and the plates shake the car while all the suspension components are checked for play. In your case the noise in the boot should also show up.
  16. Just remembered it’s Saturday, Dan’s not in the office today 😀
  17. I’m assuming here that you have tried pressing the volume control on the radio?
  18. Yep good point there regarding positioning of the blades, thinking back I did the same.
  19. Hi Justin and welcome to the LOC. Given the age of the car, the rust issues, the damage and obsolete parts I think you are down to scrapping or breaking. If you have the space, time and patience break it then get the shell collected or get it collected complete for scrap. As cars age the demand for spare parts tends to decrease as there are fewer cars requiring parts, wheels normally go first if in good condition with legal tyres but if that’s all you sell you now have a shell on bricks making it more difficult to remove. If someone wants the engine are you happy to remove it for them not to turn up?
  20. Hi Col and welcome to the LOC. Starting with the easier answers yes the engine is a 4 cylinder in line and does have a timing chain along with a double overhead cam. Engine type is 1ARFE. There are very few if any in the UK as these were produced mainly for the Russian and Chinese market. Pricing is difficult taking into account all the possible variables but looking on Japanese auction sites normally gives a good indication. Buying at a Japanese auction bear in mind you won’t actually see the car until it arrives at the UK port but they are usually very honest with their descriptions. It is usually easier to get an agent to handle everything unless you fancy filling in a mountain of paperwork. Most imports are subject to customs duty at 5% and then VAT on the total cost of the vehicle including shipping plus registration, MOT and insurance. Regarding insurance you will have to find a specialist as mainstream companies won’t touch them and it may be an idea to get some quotes before committing any further. I own a JDM import (my second) but being a Toyota Celsior it is 95% the same as. Lexus LS430 so most parts are freely available. In your case I would imagine again that most parts will be the same as a UK spec RX of the same year and any non standard parts can generally be obtain from Amayama.com The cost of importing a JDM car has significantly increased over the last few years now approaching the point where it is becoming unviable so think carefully if a UK spec option would be better. Have a read of the link below. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_RX
  21. Excellent result finally, regarding the reason(s) for dropping the claim could you not obtain this information under the Freedom of Information Act? I understood that if any company holds personal information about you then you are entitled to see such information on request?
  22. Apart from the badges I think we both have the same colour cars George.
  23. Given that mine is 20 years old now I think the Government should be paying me to drive along the UK potholes. 😀
  24. You may find this hard to believe but unless specifically requested the slide pins are generally not removed and re-greased during a dealer brake service. This often results in the Lexus seized calliper problem which I strongly suspect is the cause here. The only specific parts of a brake calliper alone that can seize are the pistons and the pad slides as these are the only moving parts in it, the only other moving parts are the slide pins…. the usual cause. I have never heard of any 4 pot callipers seizing up the reason probably being that these do not have slide pins. Do you have any other symptoms like juddering brakes or pulling to one side?
