  1. The outer skin looks weldable but the internal structure seems to have collapsed due to inside to outside rot which is probably resulting in the refusal to repair it. Dealer prices are out of the question, there are some used on fleabay but even those are daft money. Maybe try Paul Frost for a couple of them ? This is the result of lower quality when the LS400s had stainless steel as standard, fortunately mine has a factory stainless system. Sorry I can’t offer a cheap solution.
  2. I remember saying this scenario would arise at some point in time when this single key issue first began and sure enough it has. I pretty sure I also read fairly recently that if it did happen Lexus would ensure the full cost of providing replacement keys, locks (if required) and programming would be covered by themselves. The actual time taken to do all this was however not mentioned but this appears to reflect quite badly when compared to how long it takes to steal some models without a key!
  3. According to the data the fuse is either a 60A or 100A dependant on active or non active suspension located in the engine bay fuse box, fuse number 29 or pull the air suspension relay, same location labelled relay D. https://car-box.info/lexus/rx/rx300-rx330-xu30-2003-2006.html
  4. Thanks for providing this information James and the detailed tutorial which may help fellow members 😀
  5. Thanks for providing this information, these specialist companies seem to be disappearing at an alarming rate as owners retire and no new talent carries it on. I remember in the 1970s my Brother had a 3ltr Ford Capri with a leaking radiator, I knew of an “olde Skool” repair place locally and they resoldered the header tank for a few quid while we stood and watched. Long gone now of course plus you wouldn’t get past reception these days never mind into the workshop area.
  6. “Filling the tank to the brim” I asked about this at my local Esso garage but apparently unlike DFS they do not offer pay nothing for the first year then take 4 years interest free credit 😀
  7. Although for the earlier model this may help http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/headunit.html
  8. Very nice! I’ve owned 2 JDM imports (Toyota Celsiors) a 1994 and presently a 2004 both in excellent condition and low mileage. Difficult to get any Japanese service history with them but my present one has oil change stickers all stuck to the B pillar. TV is completely obsolete and just Radio 2 available on the FM radio. Does RK Tuning collect the car from the docks, do all the paperwork, retrofitting the rear fogs lights and the speedo conversion/delimiting etc?
  9. If you can remove it and get it to me I would be happy to perform the repair and return it to you.
  10. I’ve fixed quite a few of these radio units with failed backlights for members. The bulbs tend not to fail as the actual cause is dry solder joints on a couple of surface mount resistors at the rear of the main PCB. You need a decent soldering iron with a fine tip, SM rework flux and a steady hand.
  11. Hi Tom and welcome to the LOC. Looking at the fuse diagrams ( link below) there are 3 possible fuses for the camera (circled). https://fuse-box.info/lexus/lexus-ls430-xf30-2000-2006-fuses-and-relay Fusebox is in the boot/trunk.
  12. All supermarket trollies would fail the MOT on excessive play in the steering (dangerous section 6 iii), excessive play in wheel bearings (dangerous section 4 iv) and brake efficiency below minimum standards ( more dangerous as they don’t have any section 2 (b). Customer Advice. If you get to the supermarket at this busy time of year and find there are no trollies available try looking in the local streams, rivers and canals. Hooks and ropes are available on aisle 2.
  13. I’m surprised that as part of the theory driving test one of the subjects in the “Hazard Perception” section isn’t based in a supermarket car park. Things like an errant unsecured shopping trolley about to gain substantial momentum on the slight but significant downhill slope, a BMW ( other German marques are available) straddling 2 or more spaces, pedestrians totally unaware of the queue of cars behind them as they walk towards the store entrance, drivers completely ignoring one way instructions, give way lines and pedestrian crossings. Add in the massive queue at the connected filling station backing up onto the only access road to save 2p a litre and your supermarket experience is complete. Just popping up to my local Sainsbury’s now, with the snow they’re offering a skid control course around the little used area of the car park if they can get the driver of a single Lexus SC430 to move first.😀
  14. Apparently forecast we here, near Alfreton, Derbyshire had nothing at 1.00 am but around 3” ( 7.5cm to younger members) dropped between then and 4.00am noticed at the loo visit. What have we got around the UK in other areas? As for the Lexus related content……..with 280 BHP, rear wheel drive and all season tyres…..it’s staying in the garage!
  15. When were the brakes last serviced? I’ve noticed when it comes to servicing checklists the majority of actions are just that I.e. “check” so a cursory glance of the brake pads and discs to ensure they are above minimum thickness gets a tick. Rarely in my opinion do the pads get removed and the callipers, shims etc cleaned and greased as required, in addition the rear combined drums/discs are unlikely to be removed for inspection of the parking brake components, condition and adjustment. Providing nothing is binding I wouldn’t be overly concerned, a quick and easy check is to check the wheel temperature after a decent run to see if one is hotter than the opposite side either carefully by touch or using an infrared thermometer.
  16. I’ve always thought that the type of vehicle you drive and park in a supermarket car park has a profound affect on the drivers’ of other vehicles choosing to park near to you.
  17. Have you actually been provided with the other party’s full insurance details or just the company providing cover? I can perhaps understand an expired MOT as we tend not to opt for the yearly reminder and it can be forgotten but have you checked on the MOT history website to see when it actually expired? I would certainly be contacting your own insurer if only to notify them of the accident just to ensure that if the other party doesn’t pay up in cash or they also have no insurance your own insurer doesn’t turn around and say “under section 124 part b of your policy you are required to notify us immediately regarding any damage to your vehicle or an subsequent claim may be denied” We all know how insurance companies work when it comes to avoiding a claim!
  18. It sounds like it rebooted. Given the car is new and therefore under warranty I would see if it does it again then bring it to the attention of your dealer at the next service or sooner if it continues.
  19. Again this was already done when I bought it off Phil another club member, it had 99,000 KMs on import converted to the equivalent mileage.
  20. I once did 6 Marathons in a row…….I was really sick afterwards…put me off chocolate, caramel and peanuts for life. Only members 40 years or older will get this, those under 40 Snickers to you 😀
  21. Do Lexus make Zimmer Frames? 😀 https://tenor.com/en-GB/view/are-you-being-served-young-mr-grace-youve-all-done-very-well-grace-brothers-gif-15173817
  22. Many years ago I was filling up my company car at a petrol station and when getting back into the car I slipped on some diesel spillage which resulted in me hitting the right side of my chest on the edge of the open door. My immediate thought was “ouch that hurt a bit how stupid of me” before getting in the car. A few days later no pain or external signs of injury. Life went on. Fast forward maybe a year or so and while out working I suddenly had trouble breathing with severe pain when doing so and difficulty talking. I was around 10 miles from home and found that by taking a deep breath and holding it the pain subsided enough to enable me to drive home. Being summer my wife at the time was outside the house as I pulled up and I asked her to phone an ambulance. Blue lighted to the hospital, checked over again, x-rayed to be told I had a Pneumothorax (collapsed lung). Not a very nice process to get it re-inflated twice after it collapsed again after a week. Even when the hospital staff asked if I had suffered any trauma injuries I said no. It was only decades later that I realised the cause was due to that slip on the diesel in that petrol station. These days my biggest concern is falling and breaking a hip or wrist.
  23. Hi Matthew and welcome to the square numberplate club, I now have a 2004 model year Celsior having previously owned a 1994 model for 16 years. The instrument cluster was already replaced in mine on purchase from a UK spec LS430 so now reads in MPH and also I believe removes the 112 MPH speed restriction. The “Infotainment” system is the original so most of the settings for Climate control, bluetooth phone are in Japanese including of course the Sat Nav. Radio 2 on FM is the only radio station available due to the Japanese frequencies used. There is an app which allows you to take a photograph of the Japanese words which translates them into English. With you being located within ULEZ I hope you checked to make sure the car is Euro compliant (mine isn’t even though the equivalent UK model is). Pictures of mine with the Japanese style plates which are perfectly legal in the UK, I also understand that ANPR cameras cannot read them although not tried to prove this 😀. Have a look under the passenger side glovebox/footwell area on the door side for an empty hollow black plastic tube.
  24. Hi Ted, That’s good news 😀 Did you get them from KYB or find another supplier as this may help other members in a similar position regarding now obsolete parts?
