  1. Thanks Guys My car has just had a new clutch.... so all the birthday money has gone (for the next 10 years). Will be going to Gaydon so hope to catch up with you all there..... Dave :D
  2. good job you dont have a GS... £208.00
  3. Mat, TVR squeeze a lot out of the Rover V8 far more that just 200hp, Have a look at TVR Power they took the Rover V8 and rebuilt all the ones fitted into TVR. ;)
  4. My car is s*x on wheels, pity I'm fat and ugly but sporties son will benifit from it soon......................... ;)
  5. I have sold two sets of GS Sport alloys in the past with tyres both fetched £1,000. :D I have two good 8.5 fronts for sale at present and I am considering buying two brand new 10 inch rears from Lexus and then selling the set for a £1k. ;)
  6. Having owned 3 GS's and done over 60k miles in each of them, I never had any problems with warped disc etc. However my 2000 GS430 did suffer from wheel vibration, which was not cured by either balancing, tracking or changing the wheels and tyres. It was cured though after a four wheel alinement. A cam belt change (60k or 100K) as Rodders has mentioned is something to look out for as its costly to change and look for a car with a service history. Watch out when buying that you know what you are buying: i.e. there is an "S" and an "SE" version the "S" being a lower spec which are worth less. I have seen cars priced as an "SE" when they are in fact an "S". (S=no sunroof or CD player etc)
  7. To my knowledge you can only get them as part of a kit (centre cap, 5 nuts and the key) which is appox £30.00. The later cars now have a splined nut and a metal key but you would have to buy four kits to replace yours. I asked my dealer when I had the old wheels and they let me have a secondhand one, so as Colin said ask them you might get lucky.
  8. I have an orgin Blue i B1 ( the first one) and I disagree with the comments about them and the B2's. Mine failed 3 times and had to be repaired under warranty. They are expensive to buy and you have to pay an anual subscription (£50.00) to use them. I have been in contact with Origin customer service since August , however they never return emails unless you chase them and even then you wait months for an answer (eventually got an answer begining of December). So very poor customer service.......... I know of lots of owners (via another forum) who are on the 2nd or 3rd B2 device due to poor quality of the new product. So I am not a fan and will be selling it on ebay soon. :P However I do have a Speed Camera GPS device which I feel is far better and that's a Compaq ipaq using TomTom Sat nav and checkpoint software. This gives me a full Satnav system (Visual and Audio), and because you can download for free from the net thousands of POI (Points of interest) this keeps it right up to date, it makes CD and DVD system seen very silly and expensive. The checkpoint software is programable to give advance warnings for any POI's, and all speed cameras are on a database on the net to download for free. So once you have downloaded the Speed cameras data base the chechpoint software is set up to give me 30sec and 10 sec warning of the camera. It does this by visual and audio alerts. i.e "Speed carmera in thirty seconds" I also have listed all BP and Shell petrol stations and set these up with the checkpoint SW, so I get a warning of approaching stations so that I can top up with Opitma if needed. If out with my kids and they say that they would like a KFC, the Ipaq will tell me where the nearest ones are, I can then select one and the Satnav will direct me there...... :D OR MD's BK's etc etc they are all listed. :D The Tomtom software is around a £100 or cheaper if you look into the darker areas of the net ;) The ipaqs and small GPS aerials can be purchased on the net at resonable costs SH. I also have a laser radar detector which is crap as in my view all such devices are, why because you as soon as the alarm goes of its got you (unless its scatter from somebody else). Much better to have a jammer in that way you have some protection, not something that tells you you have been nicked. I do know that radar detectors can give advanced warnings of gatso's etc but in practice it's usually very poor and with a GPS device and jammer you are pretty well protected. :D Don't mean to upset any Origin Blue or Radar detector owners, but just like to add this alternative view based on my own experiences. :D
  9. Old Honda's and Toyota's, such plain boring cars to start with :yack:
  10. We Shall be there: :D Lexussport Sporties Son Sporties Daughter Sadly not in a Lexus this time around
  11. Sorry all, cannot make it tomorrow....... Chris (sproties son) has the flu
  12. twotone, I don't think saying I lock the car when its in the garage is giving much away. The other things mentioned may or may not be true ;) and there are other things left unsaid. You just told them how to checkout if a tracker is fitted or not, now thats very clever :tsktsk: Pitty you don't follow your own quotes.
  13. So the ones on the Thelwall Viaduct must be on another motorway ;) ...... Perhaps Mark McArthur-Christie should get his facts right, they are still there on the M6...:P
  14. 1) Cost of ownership, it depreciated £16k in 14 months 2) Frustrated by poor gearbox design and I wanted more power I am still on the look out for an old GS300, just missed one in autotrader two weeks ago which was for sale at £2,999 nice and cheap......
  15. Bazza, Two more if that possible for Sunday? Lexussport and Sporties Son :D Dave and Chris
  16. Rich, Yes it is in the roadworks bit, Cheds, Origin Blue, OK, quality not to good I'm on my third. Customer service is about as bad as it can get when you contact them. Looking at getting the second version B2 (only reports say the quality is still poor) i.e they keep breaking. However they work very well in detecting cameras etc.
  17. This is not a fake story ........ SPEC cameras are fitted on the roadworks (Viaduct bridge) near Warrington on the M6, they are picked up and identified by my Origin Blue i detector. ;)
  18. I don't have them fitted as I dont believe they work, although I have one of the few cars which could possible avoid the camera flash. i.e pass the camera at 173mph+ and they only get one picture and not two :P
  19. Sorry to hear about your loss, hope its all OK when you get it back.... I am worried about this problem as a guy who works for me lost his Golf GTI this way a couple of months back. So my precautions are so:- Car in garage Car locked in garage Car alarmed Tracker fitted to car Electric roller garage door fitted with electronic dead locks Company Passatt left in front of garage Car keys in locked key box in bedroom Sleep in bedroom above Garage Encourage the neighbours to leave their cars on their drives (easier to nick than mine) Sports exhaust with decat pipes (120db) Rev it and it sets off 2 of the neighbours car alarms :o If they do manage to get the keys move the passatt and open the garage doors and drive away, the tracker will help get it back. This may seem to be over the top, but I dont intend to car share with the local :tsktsk: toerags (probably won't know how to start the Cerbera anyway ;) )
  20. It is good to see that BLMC were not the only ones producing crap quality in the 70's It's cost £69,000 in repairs since 84 (73-84 no history) or £1700 ever 1000 miles :P Remind me never to buy one......
  21. Its very easy to fit, first remove the radio instructions can be found here:- Remove radio gs300/400
  22. Rx 8...... Test drove the high powered one today and its crap :o The engine is a pathetic and unless until you get it above 6500 rpm and then and only then does it start to perform up to its limit of 9000rpm. It like driving a car with huge turbo lagggggggggggggg...... as you sit there waiting for the revs to rise. So driving it quickly needs masive revs, which makes it hard work to drive quickly. I am test driving the lower powered one on Thursday as this only revs to 6000rpm and I am told has better low down torqe. Handling was very good and quite neutral. I still love the style but could not live with the engine
  23. Los, If you want sports springs, get down to Halfords its were I got the uprated ones for the 430 (£175 Eibach) I did 40k miles in my 1999 Sport and found the ride fine, for a sports model. If you want comfort sell it and buy a SE.
  24. After you have lowered it take it and have it alined, I didnt and it cost me £300 for two front tyres after 2000 miles. :o
  25. You are all living in cloud cookoo land, I was lucky to get £16k for my excellent condition GS 430 and it had never been in any accident. Forget the number plate, sell that privatle, the cars worth £12k. Look at the prices on LexusUK and remember they want £5k out of the deal, so you will get around £12k. But you will only get what somebody will offer you, so the only way you are going to know for certain is take it to a dealer and see what they offer.
