  1. You may find that they won't hold value as much as you think after 4/5 years, look at the prices on these cars and gauge the % depreciation compared to "normal petrols" as you put it.
  2. I had problems using IE but works fine on Chrome most of the time.
  3. The garage in the village I live in is cheaper for diesel.
  4. 38 psi is recommended if up to 4 passengers at speeds in excess of 130 mph!!!!! For speeds up to 100 mph with up to 4 passengers the recommended pressures are 33 psi front and rear. If you want to go to extremes then why not inflate to 41 psi front and 49 psi rear in accordance with handbook recommendation for loaded to vehicle capacity at speeds in excess of 130 mph? For "normal" driving in UK with up to 4 passengers I see no reason to exceed the 33 psi recommended but that is purely my opinion based on the research which Lexus have previously done.
  5. Depends on what wheels you are on. Never a good idea to run over/under inflated on a regular basis but if you are on 18" wheels then 35/36 psi is not over inflated. Manufacturers of both cars & tyres give recommended pressures for a reason. It is not just about fuel consumption but also handling, braking and tyre wear. Get extra mpg but lose stability and replace tyres faster? My advise is to use recommended settings.
  6. To state that the GS430 is inefficient at any other speed than exactly 70mph is totally incorrect. Are you basing speed on speedo reading or sat nav? speedo will be slightly out and satnav cannot allow for inclines when calculating speed. Type of road will also affect consumption.
  7. It might be worth checking whether your insurer managed to claim from the landowner or council insurance depending on where this happened. If they made recovery then that should be on your file with them.
  8. no lol 430 operates at its most efficient when cruising at exactly 70mph any less or any more and its inefficient. Info based on ??????. Having owned my GS430 for over 7 years I can say with certainty that this is incorrect.
  9. I always look around and then phone my current insurer who has always drastically reduced the renewal quote. I have found that having both cars and my house buildings and contents cover has reduced all premiums on these. Did you ring and ask them why Keith?
  10. You are fortunate. On all of the Ct 200h that I have driven, particularly on dual carriageways and motorways, the engine noise has always been noticeable along with the road noise. Should the engine fail I feel sure that you would become aware immediately as your other instrumentation would alter. As for overtaking, the engine noise from increased revs would be immediately noticeable. Maybe call in at your Lexus dealership and see if they are aware of a way to overcome this matter.
  11. A car engine is not really as critical as a helicopter engine! I would suggest that looking after & maintaining ALL of the car but particularly braking, steering and suspension components were just as important if not more important. Listening to the engine tells you far more than a rev counter ever will.
  12. The best place to get an answer would be the insurer that was "unable" to quote licence type.
  13. Which means that if you did start proceedings then you have the proof that you gave him the opportunity to rectify things or take the car back.......assuming it was sent recorded or registered post not just by email (which gives no proof he got it himself).
  14. CAB will probably advise you to take action via small claims court. Very worthwhile to do this but the only issue is that you appear not to have written to the dealer giving him x number of days to rectify the problems or take the car back as "not fit for purpose" or not of merchantable quality.. You may have shot yourself in the foot by initiating your own repairs but still worth a punt. Nothing to lose by seeing what CAB say or indeed by sending a letter by recorded delivery. I hope that whatever you decide on goes well.
  15. Brake calipers were probably seized when you purchased the car and might well not have shown up if not inspected. I am amazed that advisories were not rectified. It might be worth contacting Trading Standards for advice as the dealer may be known to them via other complaints. I assume you have covered very little mileage since purchase.
  16. Trouble is that by attempting the repairs yourself you have probably compromised your rights under Sale of Goods Act. Hope things work out ok though.
  17. You really should have pushed the issue. He was liable under Sale of Goods Act. He would have to PROVE that they were fine when you purchased the car. You are also entitled to see the 125 point report. You may find other problems come to light which are covered for 6 months. The trouble is that if he is a bit of a rogue trader then the more people take action the sooner he is out of business or changes his ways. If you are doing the work yourself then it must be an awful lot of issues to cost £1000.
  18. I check my fuel consumption manually each time I fill up (I always brimfill) and in just over 7 years owning the car,the OBC figures have been pretty accurate, I always know roughly how much fuel I will get in before I start. Never really noticed much difference with aircon on but so many variables anyway..... traffic, junctions daytime or night driving all affect it.
  19. It would be very worthwhile to hassle the dealer to do cambelt now, nothing to lose and remember they really want to get the car of their forecourt!
  20. I paid just over £150 fully comp with Churchill in October. A lot depends on postcode, age convictions. I always phone them on renewal time and ALWAYS get far better than the renewal quote. Insurers rely on apathy amongst their customers. Out of interest, comparison sites often do not give the best quotes...............Churchill were not prepared to quote according to 3 comparison sites, although they quoted for wife's car but quote was around 3 times the £140 we paid them! Always take time to phone your insurer and request a far better deal.
  21. Often hear them squealing on some cars, presumably bearings or belt slipping if pump isn't turning correctly. I would have thought that the engine temp would rise too. Not sure if that is always the case.
  22. Is there any record of it in the service history? If not your Lexus dealer might be able to tell you. As far as I can ascertain my GS430 hasn't had pump or tensioners changed. Lexus dealers have said they would normally only change them if showing signs of wear.
  23. Mine has done 71k miles and I had the cambelt changed at 10 years old. Did not do waterpump / tensioner as Lexus Lincoln said not needed unless found faulty. Personal choice since labour to replace them at same time would be minimal but you might then get a pump which fails after 2yrs/20k miles. Most water pumps will give warning if they are worn. Similar advice from Hull and Coventry at that time.
