  1. 1, 3, 2, jury's still out on 4. 1 was the best - by miles
  2. Thanks for the really warm welcome guys, I'm feeling right at home here.Would like to attend some Midlands Meets and put names to faces. Cheers, Moody Put names to faces? Oh no you don't want to do that. That's why they keep me locked away so the public don't have to see me lol!
  3. Hey Moody, Welcome to LOC. Nice to meet another fellow midlander! Good choice on the car, I'm sure you'll love it. Keith
  4. Nitro fuel from r/c cars. Alternatively try a hairdryer and stanley blade. Keith
  5. Hello Keith If your going to JAE mate i'll fit them for you there if you want, shouldn't take me long to do and it'll save you a few pennies and i dont mind getting my hands dirty as i'll probably be bringing a couple of tools with me anyway?... :D just noticed mate your not that far from me anyway if you get stuck?? Chris... :) :) Chris, Thanks for the offer buddy. I may not be able to make it to JAE which I'm gutted about, I'll find out for definite on Friday but it's looking unlikely. If you had a spare few minutes one of the days I might take you up on your offer in exchange for beer! Keith
  6. I've got me a set of 6 Denso IK20's sitting in a drawer waiting to fit. I'm not confident enough to do them. I don't have the torque wrench or anything to do them and if I messed it up I'd be stuffed. Can anyone suggest where and how to get plugs fitted for not very much money? I don't have a problem paying to get them done but I'm a monumental scrooge! Keith
  7. Only problem is.......how do you know, thay have used your expensive oil, and not put cheap stuff in ??? and the mechanic saving it for his car :winky: Way ahead of you. You stand behind the mechanic with a cricket bat. He'll soon get the message. By the way I do not condone violence in any way - there is no reason for it and it doesn't solve anything. But if you look back, I never actually said to touch the mechanic with the bat. It's the implied message that does the trick lol!
  8. Ring your Lexus dealer and ask them whether you can provide the oil or any parts you need. If they agree to use the stuff you provide rather than charging you extortionate amounts for the stuff they provide you may save a packet that way. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Keith
  9. Hey kids, I took my car down to see Dr Bones at Wheels in Motion this morning after having it on my 'to do' list for ages. Like many others my car was skittish and nervous on the motorway and a bit 'floaty' in the bends. Added to which kwik-fit had managed to make the situation worse somehow - one of their mechanics breathed on it I think - not that I've got anything against kwik-fit mechanics per se, just that I didn't realise that one of my local kwik-fits recruited ill-educated foul-mouthed yobs. When the patient got there it was put on the ramp, had lots of electronic gizmos put on the wheels and connected to a computer and gave a set of readings (none of which I actually understood but the doctor told me what they were and I think I get it now). Still, I'm easily pleased seeing lots of flashing lights so I was happy. When the test reults came back the doctor made his diagnosis. I think his exact words were 'It's all wrong'. Still, rather than get the 'see you in 6 months' you get in the NHS, the good doctor got to work on rectifying the problem and fiddling with the settings until he was happy with them (I was still fascinated by the flashing lights). When the settings were as he wanted them to be, the patient was given a clean bill of health and taken off the ramp following me being advised that the tyres on the back are rubbish (I know he didn't actually say that but I know that's what he meant and I agree with him) and the ones on the front are getting a little low on tread. It was then simply a matter of paying, which is always painful. The cost wasn't too bad considering what he had actually done - most reasonable in fact. Once I had been told to come back in 2000 miles for a checkup I took the car away and drove home. Driving out of the car park I do admit to being a little bit underwhelmed because I was expecting an instant huge difference, that was until I realised I was only doing 5mph. I drove the car down the road and as I turned onto the roundabout the car took me slightly by suprise and actually responded far more ferociously than before when I turned the wheel. Nothing you could put your finger on but it felt different - it felt almost alive. Taking it further down the road across come faster roundabouts the car cornered much sharper, much more responsive and generally more just more together. This is the difference I had expeced and I now had it! The cost of the procedure that I'd earlier thought was reasonable I now thought was a bargain to make such a difference to the handling characteristics of the car. On the motorway on the way back the car felt more stable, more planted and I had far more confidence in it. I haven't had chance to test it round some of the amazing roads round by me but as soon as I do in the next week or so I'll be sure to have an absolute riot! Not only that, driving down the motorway doing, umm, oustide lane of motorway speeds, I filled the car up when I got back and it has done 35.something mpg. Not bad at all. Thanks Tony, you've transformed the car! See you in 2k Keith PS, if anyone hasn't been to see Dr Bones, you should be ashamed of yourself. Get down there and sort your IS out asap
  10. I can't add anything that hasn't already been said really. Would probably be like putting sellotape on a volcano, it's not really going to work. Keith
  11. It'd be a cold day in hell before they found their way onto my car but like DJ Wozza says it's of no importance what other people think. If you like it, that's what matters. Good luck to you fella. Keith
  12. Have to be a nay. Too blingy and I think they look tacky. Stick with silver or paint them the same colour as your car. Keith
  13. I'm happy to change any details as long as everyone agrees. I've been really busy with work the last few days and haven't had chance to keep on top of things. If Long Eaton is the general consensus, fine. Keith
  14. Agreed. OTT in my opinion but if you're happy with them that's all that matters. Keith
  15. I quite like refuelling - it's the bill at the end I'm not so fussed on!
  16. I'd stick with going to Lexus and getting a key done. Not the cheapest but even if you bought a blank key it would need to be programmed somehow. Keith
  17. Guy's got a good point. The car is perfect as she is. Still, I know I'm just an old git but I know what I likes! If you like it though, you have to drive it so fair play to you fella! I do think that the less said about the Calibra the better though. Keith
  18. Hell yeah. I'm easy on location. If we can get people to turn up I don't care where it is. If there's an overwhelming majority in favour of a particular location that's fine by me. Keith
  19. I test drove one the other day because I was thinking about swapping. Good choice. Hope you enjoy it. Keith
  20. Yes buddy. Go to www.lextasy.com and they're on there under 'IS300 lighting'. $45 for a set of 2 from USA. Pricey I think but they look good, particularly with blue LED's. Keith ive looked on there but they dont post outside of the usa. i reelly want them as it will be my first of many mods and i think it wont look any good with a blue interior and red lights on the door. ive searched the whole net and cant find any They will post outside of USA, you just need to ask them first!!!! send them an email asking how much postage will be and they usually reply mate! Jason :P ^^^ what he said! Jason't right. They usually charge about a 30% premium on the shipping but they will post to UK if you ask nicely lol! Keith
  21. I should be around tonight. I'll add you to my friends list. My tag is Baboon82. See you later. Keith
  22. Man that really sucks. Having said that when I was 17 I had a Renault 5 and I once had a quote for nearly £2500 - the value of the car depended on how much petrol there was in the tank!!! Best days of my life though lol! Keith
  23. Hi Rob welcome to LOC. In response to your questions. Don't expect a drop in your fuel bills. The Lexus is a 2 litre 6-cylinder engine that's a bit of a heavy drinker. Not exactly George Best but it does like a drink. Lexus's (or is it Lexi?) are built pretty tough but make sure you see an FSH and get a HPI check to verify milage - standard stuff. Get a mechanic to look over the car if buying from a private buyer - get one from a Lexus dealer and you'll be in better hands. Tracking/geometry is a known area - most of us have been to/are going to WheelsInMotion to see Tony who sorts that out really well. I don't think you should be put off by higher milage car - they wear the miles really well and an 85k+ car shouldn't be a problem. My car is only 20k so I'm perhaps not the best one to advise on this. I'd seriously consider shopping around for your insurance. 2k is a lot. I'm 25 and I pay £300 odd for my 2005 IS which is standard and if you get to know people on here some of the guys have turbocharged, supercharged modded out IS's and they pay a lot less than 2k. Goot luck with buying the car. Keith
  24. Just a small note of caution. With loans, there's usually a minimum period before you can pay the loan back in full (normally around 3 months but check with the lender). You'll incur early repayment charges but these are likely to be a hell of a lot less than the interest you'd pay over the loan period. Shop for loans wisely as it's a minefield. Fab looking car by the way! Keith
