  1. It's a great car, don't worry. Most complaints in this forum are for older 220D's (pre 57 plate I would say), new ones like mine don't have any problems (so far). If yours is a non-Sport version, it will take you some time to get used to the long gear ratios. I had a courtesy 220D non-Sport for a few days, and at the beginning it felt weird, but after a few miles you get used to it, you just need to change your driving style. You will also feel the gearbox is not very comfortable at the beginning, but after you do a couple of thousands of miles it improves a lot, and so does fuel economy (in my case at least). I've got a loan 220d Sport at the moment. To be honest, I'm quite impressed. I've driven a non-Sport before and the Sport seems better behaved at 70 in 6th. I like the woof factor when it's floored going up a hill. The rear view mirror does vibrate "a little" though....
  2. My IS250's in for service next week and I'd like them to sort out the rattle which comes from around the seat belt fixing on the door frame. I've read on here before that there's a technical service bulletin for fixing the seat rattle, but I'm concerned that if I take the car in and ask for them to be fixed as per the TSBs, I'm going to be either looked at as if I'm from Mars or given a good fobbing off. Does anyone have any TSB refs I could blind them with? Many thanks in advance.
  3. Saw my first one at close quarters this morning (I saw another black one on the road near the Edith Cavel hospital in Peterborough at the weekend) It looked rather mean in my opinion, but I'm still not sure about the shiny carbon fibre effect stuff around the gear lever. I did ask if I could have it as a loaner while my IS is serviced next week, but my request was politely refused. Can't think why.
  4. Thanks for the replies Guys - it's for a motability scooter. It has two 12v 12Ah batteries. The charger is 24V 2A according to the manual if that helps! I know diddly squat about electronics/electrical stuff so any pointers will be gratefully received.
  5. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced inverter which runs off a car charger please? Many thanks in advance, Mincey
  6. My other half has a C Max, with an LOC sticker on the windscreen for effect.
  7. I suppose I was lucky to keep them for nine months, but last night two thieving scum children stole my dust caps. It was good of SWMBO's middle child to come and tell me that someone was "doing something to my car" instead of banging on the window to scare them away I suppose. Oh well, back to boring black plastic ones now.
  8. That young kid was Bruno Senna - he had an Uncle Ayrton who was a bit handy behind the wheel too.
  9. I was going to check it out ....but my AOL is already so slow it's almost in reverse and it's on BB AOL is the sperm of the Devil.
  10. I've been using Chrome for five days now. Previously I thought that Opera was the mutt's nuts (after using IE/Firefox/Safari), but Chrome is very good indeed and I'd recommend giving it a go.
  11. Great - if anyone knows the year in question, I'd be very grateful.
  12. Does anyone know whether it's possible to get the Cannonball/Gumball rally which Reverend Bob did in a blue S4 Estate on DVD? The one with the immortal line "Vorsprung durch.... 'ave that"?
  13. That reminds me of the email I received from Lexus some years ago saying that they weren't going to be producing a diesel IS!!
  14. This reminds me of a conversation I had with the salesman in my local dealership some months ago. I was trying to get him to confirm the rumours of a Lexus BS but he wasn't having any of it. He did say though that if Lexus did a hatchback, they'd have no trouble shifting them by the bucketload. Turns out that it's that bloody waste of time Golf which is the issue. The RX is the cheapest Lexus which can take a set of golf bats without taking the trolley off apparently.
  15. Sorry to hijack the thread, but are IS250's supposed to autolock? I'm sure mine doesn't and I'd rather it did.
  16. I ordered some at lunchtime yesterday from cleanyourcar.co.uk and it arrived 30 minutes ago. Very good service IMHO.
  17. Some years ago I went to the French GP with a couple of mates who both had TVRs. My driver fancied a bit of fun and went around the outside of all the Hemel roundabouts instead of taking the most direct route. This was only the start of the adventure and mirth, which climaxed with a 160mph blast down a French autoroute putting some manners on a Porsche 911. Blackpool 1, Stuttgart 0.
  18. That's what I'm trying to get into the routine of doing now. So far I've only had one false start since posting this topic. The other thing I'm trying to do is always keep the wheels straight so that the tiny little red warning light on the dash is not obscured.
  19. I must admit I don't like leaving it just in P either, especially when it's not on a flat surface. I'll just have to get used to it. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who forgets to take it off.
  20. Yes I know there's a big red light on the dash telling me that I've left the parking brake on as I drive away, but is there a hidden code somewhere which can activate the "You've left your parking brake" tone sound as soon as I put it in D? I've lost count of the times I've driven away with the brake still on and I'm sure it's not doing it any good. I've tried to get into the routine of "right foot on brake, engine on, into gear, release parking brake, go" but it took me long enough to stop trying to start the car with an imaginary set of keys on the right hand side of the steering column.... Do any of you auto owners find the same thing, or it is just me???
  21. Fascinating - did you go round several times . . . . :D Lexus claim about 40 mpg for extra urban and 31 mpg combined. There are half a dozen IS250s showing on Spiritmonitor - the best shows an overall average of 33.4 mpg - the worst 24 mpg - mine comes about the middle of the group. 59 mpg average for a tank would be some kind of miracle, but I can understand instantaneous indications at that level. The best I have ever had for a single tank was just over 40 mpg (used mainly on a single motorway journey to the Lakes and back). After I'd filled up at the Shell filling station near J40 of the M1 and drove down the road into Wakefield, mine said 70 mpg avg. It's a 30 limit and downhill all the way. It went back to normal on the way up again though. ;-)
  22. I regularly get 40-41 avg mpg on trips to and from Thetford. Occasionally it has hit 48 mpg but that's usually gone down again after the Thorney bypass.
  23. Yes that's you! You waved at me a few weeks ago when I was heading towards the A47 roundabout near Bretton at about eight-ish one Thursday morning and I just about got a wave in back before it was too late. Mine's black too with a personal plate. I'll keep a look out for you from now on ;-)
