  1. What a coincidence - I was only thinking my exhaust pipes looked a bit under the weather on Friday. Thanks for the tips on bringing them back to life. P.S. illestjt - are you in the Peterborough area?
  2. It is official - I am a numpty. Park Assist was in parallel parking mode. It's all sorted out now. Doh!
  3. Thanks - I'll give them a go. So far I've had it in the office car park in two separate places (which is a destination) and the local Tesco and Sainsbury car parks (which aren't!)
  4. I've been getting a "Guidance Unavailable" message when reversing recently. It's been when I've been parking in wide open spaces, so giving the system the benefit of the doubt, it might not be able to find anything to guide against, but has anyone seen the same thing? I can't see anything in the manual about it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions (and I have cleaned the camera!)
  5. Much like being able to get off a speeding ticket if you're the manager of a Premier division club......
  6. I can see that it's a good idea in principal, but it's so easy to do it by mistake. Why not make it so that you have to hold down the unlock button and the open boot button, or some other combination, and not just by leaning on one button?
  7. I had a dream last night where I was having to dry out the rear seats of my car because the windows had opened themselves. Guess what. I went down to the car this morning and all four windows were open. It was also raining and had been raining all night. I now have a wet backside after the drive to work and I'm a bit cheesed off to say the least. Has anyone sussed out how to do a DIY fix to stop the windows opening if you inadvertently lean on the key or is it still a dealer-only job?
  8. Both my 1st gen IS's looked like pepperpots at the front (40k and 68k respectively when traded in). I had hoped that the paint on the 2nd gen IS would be better but alas no from what you say!
  9. First gen: Astral Black Second gen: Velvet Black But then I'm biased ;-). My first IS was black and it looked the dog's danglies when it was clean. My second was Platinum Ice and that looked great even when it had been driven through mud. Black ones worked with the smoked rear windows, but the silver-backed Lexarse lights (as they call them on http://www.barryboys.co.uk) looked a bit naff. In silver, this problem went away, but the smoked windows looked a little out of place IMHO. I wasn't allowed to have a second gen IS in anything other than black. I did suggest silver, but SWMBO told me otherwise.... It pains me to say it, but she's right. [EDIT] SWMBO has just looked over my shoulder at this post. The conversation went something like this: "You only have to drive down one road to decide what colour Lexus to have, and that's the A47 into Leicester. If you see a new gen IS coming towards you and it's silver, you think "mmm nice car". If you see a new gen IS coming towards you and it's black, you think 'f**k me, what's that? Phwoaar!'. "
  10. I'll second that. I don't mind you keeping the data Tony - I just want to make sure that my car's set up properly.
  11. Is it possible to get either of these products from Halfords or do they have to be ordered online? I'd like to get something on my wheels asap!
  12. Best I've had is 48 on a run along the back roads from Thetford to Peterborough. On a motorway trip, I'm told it's doing 40. Driving around town/short trips etc, it's in the early 30s.
  13. I use a utility called KillDisk. You may be able to get it off the net but if not, please let me know and I'll email you a copy. It overwrites the contents of the hard drive with a series of "1"s and "0"s, thus rendering it useless without a complete rebuild. If it is a laptop, there may be an option to restore to factory settings - i.e. it reinstalls Windows and all the drivers, but wipes any data and programs which you may have installed. Your company's IT department might feel less aggrieved if you do this instead of presenting them with a completely blank hard drive which they've got to rebuild. Feel free to PM me if you need any help.
  14. I got up to 48mpg avg on the way back to Peterborough from Thetford this afternoon. No a/c, only one (necessary) heavy use of right foot, but it went down to, and stayed at, 44.2 after the Thorney bypass. It might have been more without the queue at the roadworks in Thetford Forest. That makes up for my hooligan-like behaviour coming back from Dewsbury on Wednesday. Does anyone here have a metallic red 56 registered IS250 and was on the A1 southbound around Newark in close proximity to a Golf TDi that afternoon??
  15. It's basically a taster for GT5 proper, which is about a year away from what I can tell. They did the same with GT3 (or was it 4?) where the Prologue came out before the main game. The proper GT5 is going to be much bigger than the Prologue version.
  16. ... when I've worked out how to take snapshots in Gran Turismo 5, I'll post photos. I have to say it's got a bit of poke!!!
  17. One of mine in the back does this. It's especially noticable when something bassy is on - it sounds like something is rattling around in there. It has been back to the dealer to have it fixed, but to no avail. When it's in for its next service I'll make them have another go.
  18. It was definitely more of a "brown pants" moment for me - I had visions of it doing the trick when I wasn't there!!
  19. Too right it has - I came home just now to find the car with all windows at half mast and nearly had a heart attack!!! I couldn't find anything in the manual so I had a quick search through this forum and bingo. Many thanks indeed. I shall be treating my remote very carefully from now on....
  20. Signed. I am totally against this ridiculous hike in car tax. The sooner we get this bunch of thieves and crooks out, the better.
