  1. Chips & Matt: The 4L80E is the same as a TH400 except it's a 4 speed with OD, where the TH400 is a 3 speed. 4L80E is also electronically controlled. Manual conversion would cost more than this conversion with the possibility of a mis-shift killing a gear in the gearbox as well as a triple or maybe even quad plate clutch (future plans would call for this if I went manual). This would cost a substantial amount compared to the 4L80E conversion. I'd be looking at a minimum of £2000 for a clutch (maybe more) not to mention the conversion and parts for the gearbox which would cost more than the 4L80E gearbox & conversion. This conversion would be near bulletproof with a properly built transmission. Since it would have the OD it'd make for a nice cruiser with decent mpg. Also top speed would still be near enough the stock A340E as well as a nice comfortable town car (hate manual in town LOL). Drivability wouldn't be compromised as such that it would have to rev all the way up to 4000rpm before moving forward in traffic :). Aido: The gearbox can handle it, although it's just a ticking bomb waiting to go at those kind of power levels. A rebuild/upgrade isn't much good either, as failure is definitely going to happen...just a matter of time. This transmission would be near bulletproof, can withstand the abuse of building boost off the line as well as at a roll (brakeboosting whilst rolling), can easily take the power with abuse left and centre with the right Torque Convertor. OH YEAH about the power I want more than 600bhp...I've got some HIGH goals for this car, which will take alot of money and research to get it to, but it'll be worth it in the end. No kit, no exterior mods except exhaust and wheels, a true sleeper. Anybody have any experience with it?
  2. For the tuners on this board - Have any of you done a GM 4L80E conversion into a Aristo, or a Supra for that matter? Just curious, as I can get ahold of a built up 4L80E from the USA for a pretty good price with a ProTorque TC, but have any of the tuners on here done anything of the sort when it comes to installation? Asking as before I do ANY kind of performance modifications to the Aristo (even before BPU), I'd like to take care of where the car falls short (transmission, handling, braking, etc) with the biggest being the Transmission as it will only hold so much power before it breaks and tougher rebuilt ones are not exactly bulletproof like the GM trannies, not to mention as smooth. I do know that I will need a custom driveshaft, which I could have fabricated from a contact in the USA from carbon fibre and a custom Torque Convertor if I use the Toyota Bellhousing, but since I'm planning on keeping the car forever...I wouldn't mind if someone banged away on the transmission tunnel to fit the GM tranny as long as it looks near enough stock (position/angle/etc). Therefore the main concerns/problems would be something along the lines of: 1) Banging the transmission tunnel to hell and back. 2) Since it's a electronic gearbox (E in the model designates that) a controller of some sort would be required - don't even talk about AEM EMS, would never touch it with a 10ft pole! Ever since I've read about how mature the HKS F-CON V is and how it is locked up once setup I'm leaning towards it. 3) Hook up the electronics to the car (Speedo, etc). Who feels competant enough to do this? Or has done something of this nature? I know a US Tuner is planning this out for US Supra's but it's going to be a in-house install due to complications/competition otherwise I'd just order the full kit. I was considering the TH400 with GearVendors Overdrive unit but it's too costly not to mention I'd rather have the 4L80E which is a tough transmission with OD and lockable convertor in one unit and can handle 1000rwhp horsepower and abuse with ease with daily drivability. Opinions? Comments? Please do NOT PM me...post it all up on here...unless it's something which competitors shouldn't know about :). Finally, what kind of cost would one be looking at for installing such a transmission install?
  3. Gaz where you gone matey? Need translations please :).
  4. If you're looking for tires, pick up a set of Falken FK451's or FK452's whichever ones you can get ahold of. Normally when I'd punch it around a roundabout and try and bring the rear end out, the Goodyears would give in, these on the other hand grip like there's no tomorrow. Still have to see how they fair in the wet, but supposed to be as good as Eagle's if not better. Plus they're cheaper than Eagle's too ;)
  5. Hey Aido, Nice car mate. I'm guessing you've either got shyte tires on the car or there's something wrong with your ARS. I remember when I had Eagle F1's on the stock 17's and I would NEVER spin tires at 70mph, let alone loose the back end unless I REALLY tried (full lock and floor the car) Also lose the 18's :-p and stick on a set of 19's with the fat tire setup (285/35/19 rear on 10 wide wheels and 245/40/19 on 9 wide front wheels). Doesn't look too bad on the stock suspension but would recommend you get either a decent spring/shock combo like H&R/Bilstein Sport shocks or coilovers such as Teins, Bilstein PSS or something of the sort. You don't loose the comfort as such but you definitely gain more feel through the steering wheel and chassis. Another suggestion would be to get a set of TRD Sway Bars along with either TOMS lower bracing and TRD or TOMS strut braces, that will make one MAJOR difference in handling and feel of the car. Also look into having the ARS cancelled using the TOMS ARS Cancellor bar otherwise you'll be looking at £££ to replace it. After the above mods do all your performance stuff ;). Talk about me being a bad influence for you to spend LOADS of money hehe. Also look into having the tracking/alignment checked out as well.
  6. Post them up, and PM Gaz - he seems to have dissapeared!! lol.
  7. Don't worry there's a place where you can pick up the Wise taillights for about £300 odd (IIRC). I'm supposed to investigate them, but just don't the chance to call them up. If you want I'll post up the link if you want to follow them up :).
  8. I don't think you would need a harness, BUT I do know that you might just get the "rear lamp" light on the dash. Alot of threads on Clublexus about it, I just wish I could read japanese to read ClubAristo :(.
  9. LOL @ Gaz - I've actually had a lot of luck with ARS on roundabouts at high speeds, where you can feel the back end just "slide-in" nicely. Although it does tend to break and a replacement is VERY expensive, so it's best to disable.
  10. The simple solution to no lag with the autobox and a large turbo is to have a higher stall TC. Will get you into your powerband quickly as well as eliminate any lag you might experience :).
  11. Although not on the car (Having trouble getting ahold of a set of 245/40/19 Falken FK451's)....HERE THEY ARE: <--- Look at that lip :o <--- 2nd pic of the lip B) <--- Gives off a nice look in the dark with just a tiny light shining ... going to look NICE at night. Just waiting for tyres from my local shop, which should be sometime Tuesday and will give the car a wash next Saturday and take it out for some pictures if the weather allows. Hope these pictures will do for now :D.
  12. Adie: Just waiting on the bloody webhosting site to come online so I can post up the pictures :(. Also at work so don't have the pictures here...will definitely post up tonight if its back up! :D Aido: Yep exactly the same wheels, just with a Silver Polished Face instead of the Black face. They'll be going on a Silver Mk2 Aristo, looking to have the Supra front BBK drop-in upgrade, and Tein Flex. Also looking at the Tom's underbody bracing. Goal is for it to be one of the best, tightest handling Aristo's on here, then go all out on performance :D. Tempo/Syd: Thanks for chiming in, you've got PM. Should have wheels on car today with stock suspension (temporarily) so will post up those pics as well :D
  13. Have fun Maneesh? Did it work? Hoping it did :).
  14. Can't wait to get these on :D For now they'll be on stock suspension. Still waiting on Supra BBK and Tein Flex with EDFC which should complete the aesthetic/basic suspension handling of the car due next month :D. Wheels are 19x10 Rears & 19x9 Fronts. Rear tires will be 285x35x19 Falken FK451's that I picked up off eBay for £180 for the pair with full 8mm tread and Front tires will be 245x40x19 apparently referred to as the "fat" setup in the US, where comfort isn't traded off for having 19" wheels and providing better protection for the rims over potholes :D. I'm waiting for filexoom to get back online so I can upload the pictures :(. I'll post up pics in a bit.
  15. Hey, I'm having no luck with the site loading up whatsoever :(. I hate you you tease!!! :P hehe.
  16. IIRC The ARS only works at low speeds I think below 30mph. Anything over and it is deactivated. It's mostly for taking turns into roads/junctions at low speeds as far as I know. I'm sure someone will correct me though if I'm wrong.
  17. Yep the JBL system in the Vertex Edition uses a Pioneer CD Player/Amplifier. I'm not sure about the Mark Levinson system, but it should work no doubt...just that you'll have a hard time translating Japanese to English. Still waiting on Gaz to see if he's had any luck yet - Gaz?
  18. Tried looking at the pictures and videos but no luck :( . Any chance you can upload them on a free hosting website?
  19. eXOBeX: Here you go mate...direct link is at: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...ear+door+lights "To get into the settings you need to press the CD button 3 times WHILE holding down buttons 1 AND 6. ( you can let go of buttons 1 & 6 now) Then you have to hold down the AM button for about 4 seconds. and you will get "AUDIO" on the display. Then you can just hit the tape button to toggle through F, R, W and just like girvan said now you can use the up/down button to change these settings. I just wanted to let everyone know that this does work."
  20. There's another method for people with no Satnav to adjust the settings too. I'll post it up when I get home :).
  21. Thanks Gaz, will do later on today :D. http://filexoom.com/files/11600/Lexus%20Sc...es/DSC00004.JPG http://filexoom.com/files/11600/Lexus%20Sc...es/DSC00005.JPG http://filexoom.com/files/11600/Lexus%20Sc...es/DSC00006.JPG http://filexoom.com/files/11600/Lexus%20Sc...es/DSC00007.JPG http://filexoom.com/files/11600/Lexus%20Sc...es/DSC00008.JPG http://filexoom.com/files/11600/Lexus%20Sc...es/DSC00009.JPG http://filexoom.com/files/11600/Lexus%20Sc...es/DSC00010.JPG http://filexoom.com/files/11600/Lexus%20Sc...es/DSC00011.JPG
  22. Although not the same the amplifier is the same IIRC. I've got a feeling it's different menus though...I see you've got a Mk2 GS300 ;) Care to give it a try? Just don't make any adjustments and take pictures? PLEASEEEE?? :D
  23. Hello everybody, Was browsing through ClubLexus forums and came across a VERY interesting thread. It's about how you can get into the service menu of the amplifier to "tweak" the gain & EQ on the amplifier. Getting into the service menu, do the following steps: 1) Turn the key one notch 2) Immediately press the top and bottom buttons on the right hand side of the screen (buttons on the drivers side). Top button is the Climate Control button and the bottom one is the Stereo button. 3) Whilst holding these buttons, turn the lights on and off upto the first notch three or five times till the screen changes into Japanese characters. Now what I'd like to know is...who here can read Japanese? So I can take some pictures tomorrow and post them up on here so they can translate :). It's a worthwhile "tweak" as it may even help some of us from upgrading the stereo system if the EQ works how I think it does (frequency and Q). Thanks in advance to anyone who has any suggestions. Mitul.
  24. Rallure: Bet you can't wait!! lol. I know I'd be all giddy with excitement. Would definitely love to meet up. Will arrange something as soon as I'm a little freed up, everything's a little manic right now :). Paul: Glad you still got your Aristo!! I'm just glad the Aristo Family is building up a bit, there's alot more information and more of a community feeling that way. Think a Aristo meet is way overdue. Would love to meet everyone up sometime. Just waiting to go BPU and get my wheels, brakes & suspension sorted before I go anywhere though.
