  1. Ultrasonic thing sounds interesting Rodders, any ideas how much / where from?
  2. Headline: Local resident arrested hiding in own hedge wearing a balaclava and armed with a rifle and a bag of lion sh!t. When questioned, Mr Whitebeam explained he was actually in Glasgow at the time and could produce witnesses ...... I'll probably try the water if I can catch the :tsktsk: when the neighbours are not looking.
  3. I'm looking for suggestions that : i) Keeps me on nodding terms with the neighbours who own the :tsktsk: thing. ii) Have no risk of involving me with the Police, RSPCA or local cat lovers. iii) Won't damage my car. It didn't worry me much before as it was not often that it happened. However the neighbours have just got a new Celica and always park it on a slope (probably to stop their cat!). My lex is obviously next in line. Wash it Sunday - muddy footprints all over bonnet Monday. Last straw tonight as there are now bits of feathers mixed in with the mud! All ideas considered!
  4. For a genuine new car look (as seen at my local vauxhall dealer) fit with two mismatched self tapping screws. Plates must be slightly off centre and at an angle. For the full effect, burr over the philips slot by using the wrong screwdriver and crack the plate around the holes by overtightening. Saw a number like this last year. Obviously left the job to the trainee. Seriously - use tape, no holes.
  5. I have 4 computers here..... and if I add all the clock speeds and HD sizes ..... its still less than what you have there. Plus the monitor & DVD etc. That should scream along when you get it going - you'll be replying to posts before you've thought of what to say. (bet the internet doesn't run any faster though!)
  6. Not an uncommon problem on IS's. There are a number of different reasons for this and fixes in these forums. I'm not convinced that the dealers know how to fix this - I was quoted 2 days to pull the whole thing apart and 'sort it out' (an offer I have so far declined). Other owners have had similar with varying success. I guess when summer comes this subject will come up more often again. First time I've heard of this on an RX. Might be worth a quick look at the US forums - there are a few more RX's over there. One IS owner in the US reckons he fixed his by stuffing bits of card around the plastic trim but pressing / moving the trim on mine didn't make any difference. Good luck!
  7. 192.168.x.x are private network IP's and are dropped by most internet routers - this IP will be translated before going out.
  8. Have a look at this thread (today) about a similar problem on an IS. If the alarm is mounted near the engine compartment it could be the same.
  9. Careful with that thing mate, you'll have someones eye out. King Harold
  10. We got done last November. We use a shredder & are careful who we buy from. Credit card company notified us about abuse as the scammers were using a name nothing like ours and a transaction was declined. Funny thing was it was small amounts - all under £20 except for one. As the name was completely wrong I assumed it was someone with a card number generator as most other scams would have got a name as well. Makes you wonder about some companies security as 6 of the transactions had cleared - wrong name and all. All purchases were from internet sites, we wondered if some sites dont bother checking for small amounts? Card company were very good, all money refunded & new cards within a week. Seems to be getting quite common. Be careful out there!
  11. Michael, Enjoy your Merc - nice car.
  12. Really sorry to hear this. Thoughts are with you.
  13. I wondered if it will only be a US thing as TTE is already established here.
  14. Not seen this on here yet so ..... Interview here I guess some of this will apply in Europe (Assuming its not all marketing hype) Quote 'The creation of a factory performance division, akin to Mercedes-Benz's AMG'
  15. Brief description here. The basic idea is that when you open and shut an intake valve a pressure pulse is generated in the intake plumbing. This pulse travels up and back down the pipe. If you can time the arrival of a positive pressure pulse with the next intake opening you can get more mixture into the cylinder - a bit like forced induction but coming in pulses rather than constant(ish) pressure. Upside is its almost 'money for nothing'. Downside is that it takes a bit of work to tune correctly and only works over certain rev ranges. The IS actually changes the size of the resonator chamber at around 4000 rpm to try & keep the thing 'in tune'. Similar theory for tuned exhausts - only in this case you time the pulses for negative pressure when an exhaust opens to help evacuate the cylinder.
  16. Reminds me of an article on slashdot a few years ago where a guy filled an old computer case with concrete and left it visible from the road. The 'computer' then made its way down the road 50 yards at a time as the local scroats nicked it, carried it until it got too heavy and abandoned it etc.
  17. There are schematics for US IS300 on IS300.net. I have found they are fairly close to UK IS200 wiring with a few exceptions - worth a look & the price is right! I think US cars have HID's so there will be some variations. UK spec wiring & service manuals do exist but they are hard to come by & expensive - I believe there are a few members who have them, hopefully they can help.
  18. The idea is that you don't make or break the circuit on a battery terminal as this may cause a spark. So connect positive to positive on the battery (as there are not many places to get at it) and then make the negative circuit somewhere convenient away from the battery (as the battery negative is connected to the chassis). Pick a point that is not painted and fairly solid so you get a good connection and dont scratch the paint. Disconnect the negative first as well when you're finished. The reason you avoid sparks near the battery is that they can give off hydrogen gas if they have been charging / discharging heavily. (Remember grade 3 chemistry with the hydrogen gas in the test tube!)
  19. Looks (& sounds) the biz. I want twin exhausts now ;)
  20. Am I reading this right? Rather than enforce the existing laws which already make excessive tints illegal they have effectively made made almost all tints illegal. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
