  1. And on the news just 45 mins ago, climate scientists are saying this is likely to be the hottest year for 120,000 years! My question to them, "were you there?"
  2. I looked at the BBC online news today, we're having a heatwave, just like the often occuring early September heatwaves I remember in my 71 years, but the BBC has it under their "climate change" section. The more they, and the met office and the government (and others) do this, the more people will just accept it as fact without a debate. One of my customers was talking about climate change, and when I said "assuming there is such a thing" she just said "oh, you're one of them" No debate, just labeled a conspiracy theorist. But of course, it's only a conspiracy if it isn't true!
  3. Personally I find it laughable that anyone would presume to know what may or may not have happened so long ago. As long ago as the 9th century severe heat and drought caused loss of life in Europe, but it seems most of the "Greta's" aren't interested in climate history, only the current "emergency"
  4. When I had mine I had the power steering leak so I bought the part from Toyota, just a simple "o" ring but still about £2!! I did it myself, not a bad job at all, unless if you have sausage fingers! The other thing they can suffer from, and it's the only real problem I had, is the coil packs. They only have two, unlike the later ones with 8. Again, an easy job, unless the passenger side one goes, that'll take you back to the sausage finger thing!
  5. Well I'm glad your opening line was sympathetic! The things Steve mentioned are minor, and being the person who sold him the Celsior I know for certain that the car is basically excellent. And if you read this Steve, I wouldn't bother draining the trans fluid, I know shortly before you bought it the colour and smell of the fluid was as it should be, unless of course the transmission is playing up when driving, which I doubt.
  6. I'll always look fondly on the MK1 LS, it was my first entry into the Lexus world. I bought it for £1,500 way back with the plan to keep it for a year before it all went badly wrong. 5 years later and many miles it was simply superb!
  7. Well I'm partly in a Ford. I've had my Volvo XC60 for about 18 months now and I have to say, it's simply brilliant. Safe, well built, supremely comfortable and a joy to drive.
  8. The procedure is the same for air or springs, the strut has to be removed to get the upper control arm bolts out. The air strut is fixed in the same way as springs, three nuts at the top and one bolt at the bottom. The only difference is you have to disconnect the airline. If you invest in the correct airline removal tool it will save you many frustrating moments! It's only a little plastic thing but probably won't be plastic money!
  9. If you're replacing the upper joints, and its not a bad job to do, I would be doing the drop links and sway bar bushes at the same time. Remember you need to remove the shock absorbers to do it.
  10. When ordering from Rock you need to specify FedEx economy, that way taxes will be included and parts will arrive within the week, I've never waited more than 5 days. If you opt for other post systems you can get stuck with customs etc. FedEx have been brilliant.
  11. I would have an RX sitting on my drive rather than a Volvo if the rear tailgate didn't slope so steeply. We have a very tall dog, and after comparing the two cars the Lexus sadly lost out due to the above.
  12. I know I've posted about this before but I would trust Rockauto for these sort of parts. When I asked Lexus for a price for two upper control arms it was into four figures, Rock were £93 delivered for the pair, and they weren't the cheapest they had! The quality was excellent, and knowing how the Americans love to sue, I don't think a big company like Rockauto would take that risk. I'm only speaking from experience and I wouldn't hesitate buying from them again.
  13. In my experience there's no difference as to which go first. I passed a gold LS430 today and it looked very sad right down low. I think it's a real shame that air was ever used because I believe, and it's only my view, the LS400 does have a better ride as far as the suspension goes. That's just my experience having had more than one of each.
  14. As it happens I bought one of those other cars about 8 weeks ago. A neighbour had a 1999 VW Polo on her drive gathering moss and going nowhere for three years. The very day the scrap man offered her £100 I upped it to £150. I've made it a bit of a quick project. It now has a clean MOT and only 16k on the clock! Surely even Greta would thank me for that! I still have to pass two LS400's locally when walking the dog and without fail I give another glance!
  15. Well I'm not a Lexus owner at the moment, but never say never! Having owned two LS400's, one GS300 and three LS430's, I can honestly say in my opinion the 430 takes the crown. It's easy to complain about the issues they face with age, but you'd be foolish not to expect them with aging luxury cars.
  16. It might be worth a mention that Rock are having a sale on some LS430 parts. I think £23 for front upper control arms are as low as you'll get, and I would trust them more than unknown eBay sellers.
  17. In all honesty I'm not sure you'll get something you'll be happy with for 3k. If you do it's likely to be a poor or high mileage example, and they can suffer from carbon build-up. I think it's after 2005 that the GS300 falls into the higher tax bracket.
  18. The three LS430's I've owned have all had the same misty headlights. I found masking the surrounding paint and spending about 5-10 mins on each light with compound and then waxing lasts a good few months. Once you've done it it's much easier to do it the next time before it gets too bad. I've used elbow power in a circular motion but a small polisher in a drill works well. I certainly wouldn't pay to have it done!
  19. I would also think about replacing the two rubber trans fluid hoses at the same time which is what I did. I found mine on a previous LS to be cracked, again, peace of mind. You'll probably find the foam between the radiator and AC condenser falls apart, just leave it off if it does.
  20. Having fitted an external transmission cooler I can confirm that they cause no issues. My preference would be to replace the radiator, it's an easy job and gives you peace of mind. The original internal cooler doesn't corrode, I've taken two apart and they've been perfect, but as I've previously mentioned, slight corrosion causes the o rings not to seal causing coolant and fluid to mix. Get a decent brand of radiator, fit it and enjoy it!
  21. I think we've been conditioned to just roll over and accept it. It's hard to find the energy to pursue an injustice, but unless we try, the ones who think they rule, they simply win!
