  1. When I asked at Lexus Guildford they quoted 2 hours to do full wheel alignment but also said it would be better to get it done elsewhere as their rates are £80 per hour and most tyre shops would be half that cost.
  2. Theory is P = V x I and V = I x R. Practise is the same. I have connected a 21W bulb across my car battery. Engine is off, Voltage 12.15v and current 1.78A. Turn on the engine and voltage is now 13.66v. Current increases, because resistance of bulb is still the same and V = I x R, to 1.90A Wattage of a bulb is stated for a specific voltage and for car bulbs that is 12v. Increase the voltage, you also increase the current and the wattages goes up. In this example the 21W bulb is now drawing 26W from the battery when the engine is running
  3. A lot of 200s around Surrey, mainly all silver. Very rare to see an IS300 although you cannot easily tell between a 200 or 300. Starting to see quite a few RX300 MKII.
  4. Indeed, but only by a small percentage. Trying to make it simple by keeping it totally constant.
  5. This has all got a bit but I believe that to be completly incorrect. The resistance is the same as it's the same bulb which is why the current increased. Are you saying that if you connected a 1.2v battery to a headlight bulb that it would try and draw 45Amps to get it's 55W? You don't know the power is 110W because the power is only stated for 12V and not 13.2V. The only constant is it's resistance.
  6. I didn't think a cambelt break caused any problems with the 300 engine, isn't it a non-interference engine?
  7. This is why superchargers are better at low rpm because they are driven from the engine. A turbo is driven by exhaust gases and at low rpm or small throttle openings there is not enough gases to spin the turbo fast to compress the intake air. Supercharges are normally cheaper because there is no modification needed to the exhaust system as with a turbo. Also many superchargers run in their own oil supply and don't need oil lines to/from the engine. This all cuts down on costs.
  8. It's not my theory. Voltage = Current x resistance. As the resistance of the bulb does not change if you increase the voltage, you increase the current. You can see this by varying the voltage on a bulb. The brightness will go up and down, if power remained constant so would the brightness. If you have 110w bulb (two headlights) @ 12v then current = 9.166 amps as already stated (Power= voltage x current). Resistance of bulb is 12/9.166 = 1.31 ohms. Increase the voltage to 13.2v and the current = 13.2 / 1.31 = 10.08 amps. The power now is 10.08 x 13.2 = 133W

  10. If the voltage goes up so will the Amps, not down. 10.08 A @ 13.2V

  12. About 10A. 2 x 55W. Much higher than HIDs, which is why HIDs are better for fuel economy.
  13. HID kits cost around £500+. New bulbs + starter + control unit + self leveling unit are required. There are 'blue' bulbs available which are direct replacements for normal bulbs which give the appearance of HIDs.
  14. Not sure about T reg. Have a search on http://www.ALLDATA.com under Recalls and TSB is see if there is still mention of the sunroof. Many Toyota dealers won't service a Lexus if they also run the Lexus building next door but if you find one that does :D
  15. You won't find the GS as solid or well built because it isn't, although 2000+ models seem better. Rattles, wind noise and fidgetty suspensions are my complaints although the first two are mainly apparent because the car is so quite that you notice everything. Suspension on the 430 seems much better, maybe the 300 is better now although I haven't driven anything newer that 2001 model. You do get more space although rear headroom is not good for anybody over 6ft, hopefully your kids are not that big! If you have an auto IS200 then you shouldn't notice an increase in fuel costs.
  16. The exhaust is stainless so it shouldn't rust. The Lexus dealer should have put the car through an RAC inspection which would have highlighted this. What year is the car? Pre 2000 had sunroof rattle problems (I know mine does). There are TSBs about this. People in the US have had their complete sunroofs replaced because of rattles although I cannot see Lexus dealers in the UK doing this.
  17. When I brought a new battery from Lexus it came with a two year warranty so if your problem turns out to be the battery you should be able to get it replaced.
  18. Have you test driven an SC? Many owners love them and other people don't rate the drive. Personally I would get a GS430. Handling has improved over a '98 model although I don't know how good the 4.0l engine is the 4.3 is great.
  19. You really need to know the bhp before the mod on the same rolling road to get the increase as the actual figures they quote are estimates and can vary considerable.
  20. There is a sat nav department at Lexus that you can ring to get the latest version numbers and also to a loan disc, either a European country if you are going on holiday or the UK one so you can see if the latest one if worth purchasing etc. No charge for the loan, you just have to send it back via recorded delivery. I will post the phone number later as I don't have it to hand at the moment.
  21. When I got a new battery for my GS last year the parts department said they don't use amp hour anymore but cold starting performance. I will have a look in the IS manual later to see if it gives a value.
  22. I went to them to get a flat repaired and they managed to take a bit of the clear-coat off the wheel, when removing the tyre, which is now starting to corrode
