  1. Check the dimensions of the battery if you don't buy one from your dealer. The battery needs to fit into the plastic sleeve.
  2. The Lexus locking nuts don't use keys they use a socket with pins that locate into holes on the actual nut. The pin pattern varies between sets so you need the correct socket. The plastic plunger is used to remove the caps from the locking nuts so that you can fit on the socket. As Bazza said the normal nuts you have in the box are the ones the locking ones replaced. The locking ones should be on the car
  3. The rear lights. The complete light unit is called the light cluster
  4. read Differences in fuel section on http://www.chrisperfect.com/lpg_ignition.html It states about 100 RON. However you will get about a 10% performace and mpg drop using LPG.
  5. Normal clutch wear is not covered under warranty however a faulty clutch is as is abnormal wear. How much miles has your car done? Hopefully you don't rest your foot on the clutch whilst driving or slip the clutch too much when pulling away but you don't know if the previous owner did.
  6. I don't think the sport appeared as a face lifted model, until last month anyway.
  7. The face lift appeared on 2001 models (Oct 200 onwards) and have changes to the rear light cluster, front grill, chrome Lexus badge on steering wheel, instrument cluster surround, e-shift/radio controls on wheel, chrome gearshift surround, double locking, curtain airbags, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, seatbelt pre-tensioners, newer suspension, wood effect ash tray and wide screen DVD sat nav.
  8. This is the problem with the sport. The lowered/stiffer springs and the lower profile tyres do make for a bumpy ride. The standard GS (pre 2001) doesn't ride bumps all that well in the first place. I don't know what you can do to make it better. It's taken Lexus a couple of years to come up with a new sport set up as they couldn't get it to ride well. I haven't driven the latest one but if that is better then I guess you could replace your suspension with the new ones (will not be cheap). If you drop your tyre pressures too much you will get poor fuel economy. I have a set of standard springs that came off my old '98 GS300 you can have but it will increase the height and mess up the looks.
  9. Has anybody swapped the fuel tanks around so that the LPG is the one under the vehicle and the petrol tank is the small one in the boot/spare wheel well?
  10. Yesterday I finally got my seat and mirrors into their correct position and thought I would store the position in memory. Went to press the button but there were none! Cannot believe I didn't spot it when looking at the vehicle. I have since looked on the Lexus web site under the used vehicles and looking at the pictures it seems all X reg 2000 GS300 and 430 do not have them. 2001 X and 2001 Y all seem to have them. It seems a batch of vehicles left Japan without them on as all the specs I have read say they should be there. I feel a bit better knowing that it's not just my car but it is very strange. I have emailed Lexus and I am waiting for a reply. Took the door panel off and the wiring connector is there and voltage is present on some of the pins so it may just need the switches rather than the control unit Anybody else have a X 2000 GS?
  11. Do you require the whole light? The lens is available on its own which is much cheaper.
  12. Welcome to the club Daz, The price seems good for a Lexus dealer taking into account the low mileage.
  13. A trip for the dealer for you! The switch is sealed within the lock mechanism, which in itself is a pain to get to. I think the only fix is replace the lock. Must be a common problem as my off-side passenger door had the same problem.
  14. I had the same marks on my car. Nail polish remover will get rid of most things. Use a very small amount and wash off straight away. WARNING: I would recommend testing on an area that cannot be seen first.
  15. Car crime wasn't a big problem in Japan (until people started nicking them for export) so it may not have an imobiliser.
  16. Looks good although you've made a right mess of the pavement and bushes :P
  17. There should only be two blues. The early ones are Royal Sapphire and the later Strathcaron. If you look at photos then yes Strathcaron blues always seems different, in the flesh there are the same. I would go with the blue, there are so many silver ones about. The grey is also nice. On the VW/Audi front I would say there are not above average in reliability. Certainly not in JD power or Which? studies. I know people with A3, A4, S3, Bora, Golf and Polo and all have had problems. The 1.8T engine is very troublesome, with poor dump valves and the ignition system is weak. The dealers never seems to fix the problems on the first go either.
  18. I'd go with the blue. Far too many silver ones on the road.
  19. I just got 10.5k for my '98 SE Sat Nav. A couple of Lexus dealers offered 9k. It will probably go on sale for 13.5k and will drop 1k after a month or two. My trade in offers were comparable with http://www.parkers.co.uk Remember that the price will be dropping about £200 per month. I brought mine 2.5 years ago for 18k. Take off the 3k difference between retail and trade-in and it's lost 5k in that time, 2k per year.
