  1. Bigger, wider alloys are generally heavier. Next to a loss of comfort this means a bigger rotational inertia which makes for slower acceleration - unless you have tons of torque and can use the extra grip of the wider tyres. Top speed is also affected by worse aerodynamics and road friction. The IS200 is quickest on the standard 16 inchers. But I think 18 inchers are worth the 5 percent power loss ;)
  2. Happy Birthday mate - I hope you're in good health, and reading the forums every once in a while. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  3. Dave, so good of you to stick up for the UK crowd and upstage the whole lot in BHP :D Thanks for the good company and the blast in the Aristo :) Hope to see you at the next meet! Cheers, Gerhard
  4. Metal gasket, to cylinder head: 17173-70050 (2 needed) Gasket Rings 2x, to Y-pipe: 90917-06046 (1 set) 2 Nut bracket: 18495-46020 (1 needed, or use your own 10x1,25 nuts) But- if all comes off without hassle, you may be able to reuse them, especially the metal gaskets. Officially the manual says you should not reuse them.
  5. Very good in the dry, hard-wearing. Not quite up with Pirelli and Continental in terms of grip in the Wet. And... V-shaped profiles get noisy when they start to wear.
  6. Over on the Euro Forum I know of 2 such cases in which the ABS pumps have died screaming: spencer and GS.Cruiser They didn't post what it cost to repair, but it's been quit expensive. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  7. I saw my car there :D At the rear, the 17 and 18 inch standard wheels are offset 50. You can put 235/45R17 or 235/40R18 (like mine) on without having to roll the arches. Even with 30mm lowered suspension. The speedo will be very close to stock. If you want to use the IS250 tyres, which are 245/45R17 or 255/40R18 you'll need to roll/shave the rear arches slightly. On the fronts, the 225 tyres will fit straight on, in some cases you'll have to stretch the plastic wheel well liners ab tiny bit (blowdryer). Cheers, RX-Men-8
  8. Ahh... heard that one before... Here it is so you don't need to read ;)
  9. Fight Club True Romance The Driver (1980, with Ryan O'Neal) Good Will Hunting I could think of a lot more... if I could take my time.
  10. No havent got an offical offset number that I trust ( given my earlier probs) I asked Lexus and they washed their hands o f it by saying they have nothing on the DHP version! Or just to be certain, you could measure it yourself, like I did click me! and found out it was actually stamped on the inside as well. Success! RX-Men-8
  11. Looks like the manifold which two of the euroloc members have, those also came from taiwan I believe.
  12. I'd guess it's too wide for the front. With an offset bigger than 35 it makes the inside of the rim touch the upper wishbone, with an offset smaller than 45 the outside of the rim will stick outside the wheel arch. Maximum practically would be an 8,5" rim with an Offset of 35 to 38.
  13. Now I'm totally confused - what's the difference between metric horsepower and imperial horsepower? Does it just mean that on the graph torque is worked out as either lb/ft vs NM depending on whether it's metric or imperial, or does it mean that there are two different types of horsepower ratings? Aido, take the Astra VXR says its 240psi (most car makers now use this, psi) but bhp is less than 240 :duh: i do have the conversion somewhere A Din hp (ps in German) is 0.736 kW A brake hp (imperial bhp) is 0.746 kW Hence on the mainland we have a 155hp IS200, and in the UK a 153bhp IS200. Both are 114 kW though ;)
  14. Didn't know my IS made it to Youtube! Tomorrow :) Can't wait to see/hear the result!
  15. Hi, A solution was posted here before. Basically with Audio Dvd Creator you're making a DVD-Video which the system can play. It has just some still menu screens as video, it is full of Dolby Digital (ac-3) music files. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  16. Hi Barry & Janey - I just saw this and wish you a speedy recovery! I'll keep my fingers crossed as much as I can olny tyipng si tib dffclt ;) RX-Men-8
  17. Good to hear, nothing beats a good inspection ;) Cheers, RX-Men-8
  18. In German, but with nice pics: http://euro.lexusownersclub.com/forums/ind...2&hl=nebler
  19. Hi, It is probably building a "sawtooth" pattern. V-shaped profiles are prone to do this, especially when one often drives fast on winding roads. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  20. Could be a Blueflame. 100mm polished, slash cut, rolled tip.
  21. As you've just got new tyres (did ithey make any difference?) I'm not sure if my experience applies to your car. But for me very similar problems got cured by changing tyre brand. I went from Yokohama AVS dB550 to Continental Sport Contact 2 and it went from twitchy to wonderfully unperturbed. My guess is that it has to do with how soft and rounded the sidewalls are (the softer and rounder the better). Now I'm driving 18" Dunlop Sport Maxx and they're very good as well. Please check the LOC knowledgebase for the proper wheel alignment data to compare with your alignment report. At least Hunter alignment equipment have had false data for the IS in their database. It is the same, except for the axle stubs, which can be swapped over from the standard diff. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  22. The LSD is really worth it in a powerful car. I put an RS200 LSD in my Supercharged IS200. It is not brutal, you can only sometimes notice a soft shudder though when it starts to do its work and transfer the torque to the outer wheel. The problem really is to find one. New they are ridiculously expensive, and used it's anyone's asking price. I got lucky. Maybe you can find one at a breakers, but they'll be hard to find. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  23. I'm very sorry for you, mate. I can imagine this puts a lot of extra worries in your life, but don't lose sleep over it. When all is set right you'll be even more satisfied. ;) Hang in there - another day another insight and another plan.
  24. This year's test winner in the Germanic countries: GoodYear Ultra Grip ;)
