  1. I don't know as it is not my car, in fact I don't know whose car it is :D . I copied the pics from an advert when that car was for sale. They're 18's and it shows the MB Italia 11 can come in 5x114,3 stud pattern. From the look of it, the offset seems a bit small (35-ish) , so I'd guess the rear arches of that car had to be rolled. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  2. What Toyota has that mate? I think the latest Prius has it (for some months now). Cheers, RX-Men-8
  3. Glad you got it sorted! Nice pics! Well, this just shows that although some of us (me ) drive without the brace it does provide some stability (otherwise the weld wouldn't have cracked). Cheers RX-Men-8
  4. In my install the bolt at the cylinder head (at the back near the firewall, that normally only holds a hose/cable support bracket) wasn't quite long enough to catch the thread with the extra brace fitted underneath - we ruined the aluminium thread But, no problems so far leaving the brace off, though. 5. :D :D :D I've only just recovered enough from laughing to be able to type something again Not Shakespearean, just some poorly worded Dutch To give you an indication on prices: I bought my base spec 1999 IS200 (144000km) 3 years ago for 17000 euros, and that was absolutely the best offer available at the time. And of course it was due for a cambelt change at 150000km, which cost another extre 600 euros in the first 2 months. Right now, even the higher mileage ones are hardly found below 12000 euros. So I think it's not such a bad deal... depending on what you're trading it in for. On the test drive check: - gearbox noise (hum) in 6th gear at 80-110 kph (you may need to live with that as many pre-2001 models have this, don't mention it as it may be an argument in price negotiation) - check the cd-changer anyway, it should play recordables well (mine does) and shouldn't jam. - tyre tread wear on the inside of front wheels. - wheel corrosion (probably refurbished by now ;) ) - bonnet/wing panel gaps (to see if it's maybe a repaired accident car) Well, there are probably some other things to look for.... hopefully it is going to work out for you! Cheers, RX-Men-8
  6. Your welcome! I know for a fact there are guys on there from Holland! Worth a try? :) Ja!
  7. Hi, It just happens I made some pics at the Netherlands introduction: Cheers, RX-Men-8
  8. KW x 1.34 = HP 1 kW = 1,36 DIN-HP (1 DIN-HP = 0,736 kW) 1 kW = 1,34 BHP (1 BHP = 0,746 KW) You strange imperials :D Cheers, RX-Men-8
  9. Hi, We use the standard Maxicosi newborn seat, it can be strapped tight very nicely with the IS's locking seat belts. But we ended up putting a piece of 2 by 2 (wooden block) under the low end so it would be less upright (the IS backseat is quite sloped backwards). We always left the crib strapped in the car, though, because strapping it in every time is quite cumbersome. The next stage (9-18kg) - Britax (Römer) King TS fits very well, we also took the extra head-cushion insert - very comfy. In this year's NL tests it stillgot top score together with a Maxicosi model. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  10. Near the big TV relay tower in Hilversum my keyfob on the '99 IS doesn't work either. Some cars are affected and some aren't. Luckily it doesn't affect the immobilizer, thats a passive circuit in the key that just needs to be near the ignition. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  11. On mine one of the rad hoses was slightly leaking, - I noticed the gurgling before I noticed it needed topping up. All fixed by new clamps and topping up. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  12. Owww! That's very big of you to still read your mails and send me a pm as well after all that Wish you a good recovery, time to put your feet up ;) Cheers, RX-Men-8
  13. Hi, maybe it's not much help, but on the IS with auto box an oil cooler is fitted to the gearbox as well, but not a bigger radiator as far as I know. But then, you may want the peace of mind that the radaitor is up to the job, not much fun getting it overheated in e.g. the Sierra Nevada. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  14. It's in! Nice design, nice blue lights on the buttons and on the remote. It has every concivable input! 2x SCART, DVI and PC-RGB, S-Video CVBS, and all the audio inputs. It has an expansion slot at the left side for a memeory card reader module that reads almost every type - if it were fitted ;) Picture quality fine, for an LCD display (main drawback is slower response making fast moving images a little blurred). Bright and sharp. Good value for money! I didn't even know Dell made TVs, thanks for the tip :) Now some people want to order one for back home only to find out the deal expired end of the month! Cheers, RX-men-8
  15. Ordered one for the office. We'll see how good it is for 526 Euro all in :)
  16. I just used Avast free edition for the first time as it seems to be the only free virusscanner that will run on Windows XP x64 Edition. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  17. Hi For the right circumference (and possibly fit - on the front) you'd need 225/40R18 tyres. Otherwise your speedo/odo would under-read. The Avensis Verso wheels would probably bolt on as they are the same lug pattern and centre bore. I don't know if the offset (ET) would suit the IS, though. (I'd keep that between 40 and 50). Cheers, RX-Men-8
  18. There are only a couple of Lexus badges on mine.... but it is virtually covered with the Toyota brand on every part. Fine with me, I was only looking at Mazda or Toyota at the time and this was just something different - and still what I was looking for ;)
  19. It is obviously prepped for the track, with the orange towing ring at the front and the rollbars. Looks fine to me, only the huge wing seems to be more style than substance. Other than that it has a nice stance. Dark painted standard wheels on a blue car, mmmm... I kinda like it. RX-Men-8
  20. Didn't get any others, I used the sensors from the oringinal. I'm beginning to sense I have overlooked something These sensors are placed before the precats, so shouldn't matter? RX-Men-8 P.S. This morning I knew what it was: the air temp sensor in the airbox was still unhooked I was too much in a hurry yesterday, and it was getting dark UPDATE: No more gasket leak! It was caused by the fact that to replace the cats with pipework, TTE had cut the bottom flange in between the two pipes, and welded them together again. This was not entirely precise, as it resulted in a 1mm offset between the two flange halves. This distance could not be closed by the gasket. I resolved it by cutting half a gasket from a piece of 1mm sheet metal.
  21. Hi, Today I packed up my 1 year old and went to my parents to have a nice day playing for him and me ;) It was time to get rid of the precats. I recently sourced a used TTE-decatted manifold and it was quite a busy day. Supercharger off, manifold off, pretty straightforward. There were a few nuts and bolts though that wouldn't come off, I had to cut the bolts to the front section as they were sooooo rusty. Took me at least 2 hours to get everythin off. The pre-cats looked fine to me, no visible damage to the bottom of the lower one. Then the refit. Manifold on: The supercharger brace was quite hard to fit again as it fits only under slight stress. At JAE it was easier with some extra hands. Test run: CEL on :eerrrmm: At least it seemed to run okay. To be sure I took the charger off the brace again to have a look at the Lambda sensor connections below. All seemed well . On the road: the supposed extra 10 bhp or so seem to live above 5000rpm, it is accelerating more aggressively at the top end. Before you know it you crash into the limiter. The power curve seems fairly steep at that point, so if only the engine could rev to -say- 7000 Driving back home I got the impression that the junction between manifold and 1st section is leaking slightly (raspy sound under full throttle). If that's true, putting in new gaskets was not helping much :( . Don't know if that has anything to do with the CEL being on all the time (even after ECU reset). Well, I'll have to have the error codes read I'm afraid. Any suggestions are welcome :) Cheers, RX-Men-8
  22. No.... or do you think in 5th gear (1:1) you don't have any loss any more?? ← Hi, the dyno actually measures force at the rear wheels, and the speed. In scientific units (Newton, metres per second) the force*speed equals power in Watt. Force can be related to the torque (wheel size + gearing into the equation) and speed to rpm in a similar way. Hence torque*rpm (in scientific units, Nm and rad/s) equals power in Watt. The reason the measurement takes place in a certain gear is the 1:1 ratio in te gearbox, which assumes the least amount of drivetrain loss. For the IS200 this is 5th gear. Also, preferably a high gear is selected to have minimal wheel force to prevent slip, which makes the measurement inaccurate. How do they estimate the drivetrain loss? Some do it like so: When making a dyno run the wheel power is measured. At the top rpm they depress the clutch and measure how quickly the drivetrain decelerates. The quicker it decelerates, the more drag it has and the more power it saps from the engine. This power (estimate!) is added to the wheel power to obtain the crank power. Drive train losses aside, the gear in which the measurement takes place does not matter. In 4th the measured force will be higher, but the speed lower than in 5th, theoretically giving the same power. So, like Roadrash already indicated, you cannot multiply the 4th gear power measurement to extrapolate it to 5th gear by the difference in ratio. It is merely a question of how much drag the gearbox has in 4th compared to 5th. This difference would be quite small, imho. The only way to find out is to redo a run in 5th gear. Cheers, RX-Men-8
  23. It makes you wonder what the S2000 has got? Winner two years in a row. Have never been in one but compare it with IS200. 4 banger, manual only, black leather or black leather with red trim, big red button on dash (what for?) about as sophisticated as a 'Focus'. Then take a look at Honda's website and compare it with Lexus and the whole of their promotional machine. Begs the question why isn't the IS no.1? ← It is loads of fun to drive with the 9000rpm redline. An MX-5 on steroids. A true roadster without reliability problems. Owners are very pleased I'm sure :) RX-Men-8
