  1. That will be the daddies. I used an impact socket and a long breaker bar and then coated everything with copper slip when it went back together just in case I need to strip it out again.
  2. You don't need to read it. Jus look at the pics.
  3. When I read wet carpets, i thought for a moment I was on a Rover SD1 forum :P Glad you have sorted it.
  4. This is the car that started the ball rolling. It met a sad untimely end 48 hours after I sold it.
  5. It really was high at the rear. Im sure it thought it was shaking its ***** like in the Megane Ad.
  6. Sooo much like it should be and very little difference in the ride quality.

    My new baby

It is big and it is Clever. I think its the best Colour but then im Biased.
  8. My old Lex rattled for a second on cold start up but i think that was down to going from zero to 1500 revs in such a short time. The starter on the other one was much faster as well. My latest Lex dosen't rattle at all but it spins slightly slower and longer than the other one and dosen't idle as high when cold.
  9. I took mine off and refitted the standard air box assembly. If the cone filter is to big for our MX5 then it will be up for sale on Ebay.
  10. I got my Eibachs and now the rear of the car is no longer a hazard to low flying aircraft. I have only fitted the rear at the moment and after a drive, i can't really detect any difference in the comfort of the car. It sits soooo much better though. I just need that other 10X18 rear wheel now and some tips on how to make my Leather quieter. Top marks to the company I bought the springs from. They were very concerned that they wouldn't fit a UK spec GS and were only suitable for the American Market. This was even confirmed by Eibach on the receipt but what is the difference?
  11. This Lexter is far more economical than my last one. Its better than the manual 300ZX that I have just sold and I don't think its to far off the MX5.
  12. It could be the water pump bearing making the noise. It may have partially seized shearing off the impellor in an attempt to free itself
  13. Another quickie. This noisy idler bearing you mention. Is it definitely that or could it be the water pump screaming? Water pumps don't always leak when they have gone.
  14. I know you said you have had the stat out but if you remove it, can you get a view of the rear of the water pump impellor or maybe poke something into it to see if it turns on its own? This may sound daft but does the pump spin freely without the fan belt on and is the belt on the correct way so it is driving the pump?
  15. The ball is done now. It was straighforward after I cut the old one off. I took time to check out the front caliper while everything was apart and it was the same as on my last GS. Partially seized. I gave that a good degrease, clean and regrease and the same for the other side and once again, the very slight wheel wobble has disappeared from about 75MPH upwards. It may have disappeared altogether if I went faster but 75 to 80 is just fine for me.
  16. If someone is tailgating me then I always slow right down to annoy them and then shout out the mileage of my car to them just in case they aren't close enough to see it or they can't read.
  17. It could be a water pump problem. Its possible the impellor may have become detached. I have seen this happen on a few cars.
  18. I got one today without discount but I also got a fan belt and timing belt at cost through the motor factors to make up my discount. I guess the reason for only one ball joint being replaced was down to the reluctance of the other one to give itself up......... a bit like Liverpool Tonight...... Yeeeeeeeeeeeeesssss.
  19. Its my second time here with my Second Lexus. I loved the first one so much and shouldn't really have sold it but I wanted a 300ZX so went there, did that and now im back. I have no plans for this car other than keeping it for as long as my first ever Stag which I still have and I bought that in 87. Just thought I would go Gold and see what savings it can help me with. My car only goes into a Garage for an MOT test or to have Tyres fitted. If it needs anything else then I do it myself. My Brother in Law runs his own Motor Factors so I have no problem with parts as a rule and can cross ref most things to Toyotas if needs be. If I couldn't do the work myself then owning a Lexus would just be a pipe dream so im lucky really. Anyway. Im back for the long haul this time.
  20. I can feel an LS coming on. I would take a chance on one with a huge mileage for cheap money cos I bet evertything would still work.
  21. Mine is pretty much silent apart from the clunky ball joint and the noisy leather.
  22. My GS has had one repaced in the last year by the previous owner and the other one is the subject of my clunking noise. It sure is worn. Are these available as aftermarket parts or do I need to go through Lexus? The thing that has surprised is the amound of rust on the suspension arms. I don't know if this is normal or because my car has lived in salty conditions all its life. I don't remember my last GS being like this and it was older. Its not a problem because it gives me something to do now that all my Triumphs have gone but not until its had a Timing and Fan belt swap first. I sure hope I can crack the crank pulley bolt off.
  23. Thanks Keith. They are the numbers I have. I think I have sourced a set. Been promised the first week in June. Fingers Crossed. I just need a rear wheel now.
  24. I would ask to see it. I have never come a cross a leaky one yet. As for the labour charge, well, its not as if they have to remove anything to get to it cos everything around it is already off.
