  1. Ants. In theory, your handbrake/parking brake shoes should never wear out. We all know its easy to leave the brake on and drive off though. Best way to sort it is the longest way. Take of the rear calipers, remove the disc and make sure the shoe adjusters aren't seized. If they are then the chances are they will need replacing. Just by adjusting the brake shoes should enable the pedal to become firmer with out the need to touch the cable.
  2. Hello again. I keep nosing in here despite being sad and Lexless. I fitted a rear brake light from a sport to my rear shelf. I had to remove the rear seat to remove the shelf and then had to trim the shelf to get the light to fit. After that, i found a blanked wire in the loom which was the power supply for the light. This was next to the speaker in the middle of the shelf. It was visible through the rear spoler.
  3. Phew. Cheers Norkep. Incidentally, Hills salvage have an L plate for sale on their web site which looks like mine in the pic but its blue. Makes me sound colour blind but its a bad pic and seeing the pic and rear spoiler got me all excited. :P . It took me a few seconds to realise the wheels were wrong as well . http://autos.blue-sock.com/clients/3/item.php?value=95355
  4. Other than cracking the bottom pulley nut, the job is quite straightforward. I can't remember now what I paid for my belt but I think was about £20 or £30.
  5. I will never forget the times I had with my GS. It was a scary buy at the time but it was just soooo good. I could do after dinner speeches about how good that car was and I could get away with it too by advertising it as a definite cure for Insomnia or your money back. :P
  6. I have been tempted to buy another GS recently because I have seen a couple of high mileage MK1 Sports with dodgy history knocking around in my local Trader. However, I have gone and bought another fine vehicle from the land of the rising sun. I did pretty much the same thing as I did when I bought my Lexus. Impulse buy. I know have a Nissan Fairlady NA and its great. A Japanese import with all the bells and whistles. In the future, I hope another Lexus crosses my path but it will have to be a MK1 sport. Nothing else compares in my opinion........apart from the sound my TR8 makes. :)
  7. I always steer clear of main dealers unless its absolutely essential. There is no way I could have afforded such a wonderful vehicle if it had to go in for all its work. I have noticed a few threads over the last 2 years giving Liverpool a bit of stick and I must admit that I wasn't impressed on the one occaision that I visited. I enquired about buying a pair of sport stickers for my side windows only to be told that unless I had the part number then I had no chance. One visit to Chester and they were sorted in 4 days complete with a coutesy call to see if if I had any problems with them. I know this is off topic slightly but it seems that Liverpool may struggle to lose that image.
  8. Its not difficult. The hardest thing is cracking the crank pulley nut off. Once you have done that its straight forward. The fan belt can be tricky though. Mine snapped and it took an age to figure out which way it went around the pulleys.
  9. I guess I could do an, "in the breakers yard" [sob sob] with my old baby if only I knew what happened to it. L546EJA. Where are you? Come back to daddy. :P
  10. Hmmm. Rover SD1 2.6. I've lost count of how many heads and cam carriers I replaced on those models in the early nineties. I had a belt failure on my MK 3 Supra and no damage was done. :P
  11. I can feel another GS comin on. I still haven't replaced mine with anything.
  12. Mudz. Stags used to go wrong back in the seventies and early eighties. Those original v8 motors are really sought after now. most of the converted cars are bein changed back to original spec.
  13. Keith Mine was a blag sport. It looked the part and I would certainly do it all over again. We are talkin modifying class here, not cheap and cheerful trash. Its your cash, your car, your choice. I would just do it and enjoy it. Im up for another one providing no one waves a another genuine tidy white tax exempt man/od Stag at me........anyone?
  14. I would not be put off by any of that. You could buy that same car blind after it had been clocked and pay a lot more for it. 180,000 miles wouldn't put me of any car. I sold my Citroen XM with 240,000+ on it. original engine and box with nothing more than one clutch and 2 timing belt changes. If the price is right just do it.
  15. Good work jaybo. Its nice to see kwik- rip getting stitched up for a change. They are nothing more than another word for a ships brake with a W on the front. :P
  16. I had the same problem and it caused the steering wheel to vibrate at low speeds. It would be wise to check the other side as well.
  17. My car used to do exactly the same thing. It would instantly hit about 1800 RPM and you could hear the big end bearings rumble for a second or two because the oil couldn't get around as quick as the revs rose. The biggest concern for me was the lack of lubrication at crucial cold start. When it was warm it was fine.
  18. I'll keep an eye out for that beastie next time im stuffing my face at Baxters Lanes most wonderful Pizza place. :P
  19. When you say keep warping do you mean you have replaced them before? I think you have a problem with a sticky caliper. The original discs are huge and they will take a fair bit of stick but if a piston is slightly stuck, it will knock them out in no time.
  20. I sold my GS last Otober to a guy who waved the cash under my nose and didn't even haggle. 48 hours later, the police knocked on my door enquiring about an accident involving the Lexus, a garden wall, a porch and a bloke who can put Linford Christie to shame. {I assume that means the speed he can run. Nothing to do with the Lunchbox department although I may well been mistaken}. Im curious now to know what fate has awaited the car. Has anyone on here bought it/broke it/fixed it? To all the new members, it was [and probably still is] A sherwood green MK1 Sport wannabe with MK2 18" sport alloys, lowered, sport boot spoiler and high level rear brake light. Its already on the HPI register from when I had it. The reg ends in EJA. Do you know of its whereabouts or do we have any police officers who can fill my curiosity?
  21. I believe in the, "don't fix it if it aint broke" saying. Im still on Win 95 with broadband and a host of goodies that aren't supposed to support it and it all works perfect........Famous last words ;)
  22. Do you have any dreams I can borrow just to get me through the lonely night... The future ain't what it used be by Pandoras Box. Four sultry Vixens put together by Jim Steinman and unleashed with overtones of The Doors.
