  1. Out of sheer curiousity, those of you who went fromt the 400 to the 430 and didn't like it, could you type your ages please!
  2. Go for it. Sometimes you just need a change into something modern. You will either enjoy it or hate it. Only one way to find out. Sounds like your whole family will be behind you on the change aswell, dont underestimate that bit.
  3. Ohh I thought it was all official with an invoice etc etc. I take it back if it was going straight into his pocket and all the effort he put into getting it!
  4. No we can't compare your scenario to his. Yours was an honest hard worker running his own place and would genuinely appreciate the tenner etc. The dealer isn't in the same boat at all. OP would have been better giving a tenner to the dealer and a tenner to a charity on behalf of the dealer IMO. The dealer doesn't need an extra tenner at all.
  5. May pop in! I can bring my techstream and laptop if anyone has any issues!
  6. Hi I've just checked the compatibility & it says NOT suitable for 98 LS? Only for LS430.
  7. Hmm thats interesting, do you have more information on it? Perhaps a SIB number from your invoice or a recall number ? Struggling to find anything online.
  8. Hehe indeed I did. Do you have that rear ac pipe? I would really take a look at it and put some extra padding in. It's been rubbing against that other pipe and just screwed it up. Welcome to come and put it on my 2 poster to protect yours if you want. I really want to avoid going into dropping the whole tank, propshaft etc etc until it's a last resort. What about something like JB weld + that tape?
  9. Ok found the issues. On the pipe going from the front to the back I did find some little spots of UV due. However one area just had loads due to compelte corrosion. Observe below. I highly recommend that anyone with an LS430 and rear air con gets their car up, check out the pipe and put extra padding and covering around it to protect it. To fix this, instead of dropping the tank ,prop etc etc. I am going to first go down the pipe leak self amalgamating tape method. Very good stuff for leaking plumbers pipes etc. Should do the job here at least.
  10. Ok got a place to do it. Leak reported. Dye added. Gonna take a look with a uv torch to see where its coming from. OMFG curiousty got the better of me so I started taking a look at the air con pipes. Sweet mother of god I didn't know this was in store for me.
  11. Steve can you recommend a gas place in sheffield? Everyone either wants it in next week or is charging £60 odd !
  12. Are you able to save the image, open it in MSPAINT and circle what part the problem is? Or give me the number from the picture, I can look into it for you a bit better,
  13. Ah, I pulled AC does via the self diagnostics. Came out with 28 - 21 - solar sensor ( ok did it in the dark) 23 - pressure switch 24 - Obviously car has no gas so it's confused. Will be interesting to see what codes come up when it's gassed tomorrow if it doesn't work.
  14. Agreed. Lesson here is go off your own facts, not what a previous owner or garages have said.
  15. I took the compressor off and had another look at the electrical side. Connected the battery and the compressor would click on like normal and then off when I turned the battery off. I am thinking the compressor has nothing to do with anything, gonna go and get this car filled up with gas tomorrow. Couldn't get it apart, that 7mm bolt was absolutely seized on there. See myself whats happening. I am betting something like an AC pressure switch is the issue.
  16. Or they calculated what came out and put the same in which is somewhat ok but doesnt help if it was low to start with. Also what fluid did they use?
  17. Hmmm what garage ? If they're familiar with BMWs , Mercedes etc then the fill level will be ok, but if they're not, then I am worried they did it all with the engine off and not at the right temperature....
  18. Or if you want to put it on a 2 post lift. Can't open door in the correct position for the lift, so get out and push it into the correct position. A million reasons to move the car with the engine off.
  19. I went and did the whole lot. I did that drain and fill. And then I did just undid the cooler line and the front, emptied 2 litres. Filled 2 litres into the sump. Did this 4-5 times until fluid was nice and red. No problems and a great way to do it with minimal mess. You did check the trans level properly right?
  20. Steves absolutely bang on there. Clogged cats etc etc etc. Engines like to see the full use of the rev range now and then on a long drive.
