  1. Just tested my ls430 53 plate, I can guarentee mine has just unlocked and the windows opened plus sunroof with a 5 second press and hold on the open button on the fob. It also closed all windows and sunroof and locked the car with a 5 second press and hold on the fob. You can open close the windows partially by letting go when the windows are moving, or just keep pressing and they will fully shut or open depending on which button you using. Did it 3 times in a row to ensure that luck or fairies were getting involved. Mine is a Europe model, so i guessing all 430's should have this feature. More than 50 feet away it just unlocks and locks, no window movement.
  2. The lock button should close all windows including sunroof when held down, 5 seconds i think you need to hold it before it starts to activate. You also need to be close to the car, not across the car park.
  3. Lets get this straight. A forum member has an accident that they are not to blame for, the culprit even drove off without any information exchange, the driver suffer's injury and rightly get's medical treatment, then looks to put in a claim to get the car repaired to it's former glory and compensation for the whole incident. Since then, it has changed to a personal dig at the driver and the disabled, claims of false whiplash, benefit scrounging, slanging matches between members. Come on people, we are supposed to be a discerning group of people that own a slice of luxury motoring. I fear we are starting to see people's TRUE COLOURS coming out, what's next i wonder. If you have an issue with the original poster then PM them, please don't reduce this forum to the crap that is acceptable on lesser forums. Please think before you post, both as the post starter and any replies. Personally i think the claim amounts are a bit high, you will be hard pushed to get close, but good luck getting your car sorted, and good luck on getting your injury healed.
  4. Sad day indeed. You are Ok that's the main thing, cars can be replaced, bit harder with humans. Lets hope they take full responsibility and sort out this mess for you. Well done for grabbing photos, you can't argue with that evidence. Can't help thinking he looks very sheepish on the photo of him at the driver door, maybe thinking of what a P45 and what a criminal record looks like, not to mention his huge insurance premium.
  5. Quinny, when you put your car into reverse, do the wing mirrors angle downwards a little bit to help you in the reverse? If not and you want it to happen, the switch to move the mirrors position needs to be in the L or R position, not in the centre.
  6. It could be from the air con, mine leaves the ocaisional whoopsie on the floor after the car is left, only happens after a decent run though.
  7. On a side note to this re cyclists. In 2008 I was on the Uxbridge road heading to Ealing hospital to deliver some dialysis equipment. Was about 07:45 at the lights where the mcdonalds is at greenford rd junction to uxbridge rd, lights on red waiting to turn left towards the hospital. I had a fully loaded 40ft long draw bar tractor trailer unit weighing about 35ton in all. A cyclist hits the back on the trailer, i don't notice obviously as you could hit it with a car and it would barely register. The cyclist then taps on my passenger door window claiming i hit him and damaged his bike. Luckily for me, i had 4 witnesses to verify i was stationary and it was him that hit my vehicle. He called the police and ambulance who duly arrived, they at first thought it was a joke but the cyclist was adament, They arrested me, took a breath sample, chatted with the witnesses then realised what was happening, de-arrested me and promptly told the cyclist to go away. One officer noticed that the trailer had a crack on the left indicator and told me i should pursue for damages to the vehicle. He tried to claim against the company insurance, failed, tried to claim against me personally, failed. The company then decided to claim against him for damage to the vehicle from his negligence and promptly won, he refused to pay the small amount to replace the light lens cover. He left it and it went to the sheriffs to get the money, in all it cost him nearly £1500 after the fees and costs. So go for this weasel and nail his arse to the wall. Took a while to find the details of this, was buried in my driving stuff in the office at home.
  8. I had a similar problem on a motorcyle with 1 or both front discs. Spin the wheel and the disc rubs the pads in only a certain spot. You could hear and see the difference in the disc after using brake disc cleaner from the non rubbed area. I completely removed both discs from the wheel and cleaned the mating surfaces, i replaced both cleaned discs, torqued up and spun the wheel, no rubbing. Conclusion i made was that the discs 1 or both were not sitting exact as they should creating a very slight wobble. I did replace the discs and pads after as they did look worn, did the same cleaning again and no brake rub.
  9. If you don't mind I will analyse what you just wrote: "One big advantage the BMW has over Lexus is that there are independent specialists in this area" Basically the reason for this is because it is not financially viable to be a Lexus independent specialist because they do not break often enough to earn an honest crust. The reason why there are an abundance of BMW specialists is because there are an abundance of knackered BMWs needing to be fixed And for any smart arse who comes up with a comeback saying there are no independent Rover Montego specialists in their area is this because they are reliable too ............... Just don't :P Stick with the Lexus ............... you know it makes sense There is a chap who does specialise in Rovers near us, I think he claims to specialise in Fiat as well. How much of a specialist is anyone's guess, sidestreet garages can do lots of specialist work can't they.... I think he's waiting for Rover and Fiat to make a union, then he's way ahead of the other independants. Roviat Sounds good.
  10. If you get no joy from him, go back in a crappy £100 rust box and finish the job. Serious though, good luck with getting at least something. I use a bicycle and i know how dangerous it can be, not just for me but for other road users if you are not doing things sensibly, both can use the road legally and most of the time they do get on ok. I will keep my views on organ donors, sorry i meant cyclists to my self.
  11. I visited and also mashalled (used to do some many years ago) at an historic car meet at donington park many years ago, it was a real blast to see some of them old car being ragged about the track. The best bit for me was when charlie agg started his bright orange mclaren m8f, we were at the bottom of the craner curves and you could here it from there, bloody rocket ship and the noise was motoring porn. He won the race by a country mile. So hot tip, if you can go then do it, it is a true motoring spectacle to see some of these old cars doing what they do best.
  12. Check the V5 should be printed on there somewhere. I think the DHP was an optional extra, maybe these rims were made to a better standard, or you have been lucky and they have stayed good. But honestly though, the wheels lexus provide are not of a high standard if they start to perish in such a short time.
  13. This hybrid stuff is not all it is made out to be. Slight topic sideways shunt here. Don't know who it was but a forum member worked out that a prius will be more costly than a 400 after regular maintenance etc. And my comments were made light heartedly, i was making a point that 2 cars can't really be judged against each other as they have different specs, i will admit that the 400 and 430 are closely related but are still different in many ways. Some better some worse. And in honesty it does gaul me that we often see the term aimed at 430 cars, it's a common fault, i did a common fault thread, very few 430's were on it, mainly 400's with the same faults. My car has air suspension and it feels well planted to the floor, it's been to a track day a did exceptionally well beating on times by some dedicated sportier cars. And lets be honest here, we have luxury cars in the 400 and 430, 460 and 600 included, parts will not be that cheap, i have said before about this, if you own a luxury car then expect to pay more in repairs. I agree that the more toys, gadgets etc do make the chance for more to go wrong, but as i said, proper servicing and routine maintenance including preventative maintenance should fend off many of these. My other aim is that we should be celebrating the fact we have managed to own a piece of luxury motoring, we should be telling lexus that some of the build quality is not as good as it could be, wheels flaking for example.
  14. I find this original post quite disconcerting from a lexus user, you say you not looking for an argument but by the comments made it looks like you are. Kind of underhanded approach really. Also i think the comments are flawed. You cannot really compare two products that are built differently with different parts. Examples Air vs normal suspension, totally different things which can go wrong equally badly and leave both versions with a car that should not be moved, Fridge, an item in honesty that does not bother me, not an item i look for on a list of options to choose a car by and nor should be. How many have failed, do we know ? I have the 1UZFE engine which does not suffer from Valve Seat Recession on LPG (I believe the 3UZFE does).... You believe it does, i beleive jumbo jets are unsafe because they can be painted blue, a petty comment but i'm sure you get the point of "i believe". You also make this comment towards LPG, not many people convert their cars to LPG so it is not really applicable, what you should have said was... VSR on LPG could possibly occur but it is a risk you take if you convert to LPG from standard. Again how many have failed with this issue as the diagnosis. The battery drain, if the keyless start is not activated by the button then it won't drain the power as it is not on, anything left on will drain the battery, thats the way it is, a car sitting on a drive with the alarm armed will drain the battery slowly. Fully stainless exhaust apart from the Y piece, no prizes why they did that is there, think about it, and it is not because they could't do it, they know that bit will fail in time, meaning you need a new one, Why they did not put stainless on the 430 is Lexus to answer, but it is not the end of the world, millions of cars have steel exhausts, so is it a real problem why then need replacing. The LS400 does in fact come with 17inch rims which has already been answered. More expensive tyres, you get what you pay for, you can get a trye for my car a £36, probably not round or black, may not be rubber or have a reliable tread, but it's new. Not arguing just putting my points into the fray. As for the topic i started, common fault. the list is showing the 400 suffering more issues than the 430. Many issues can be prevented by good proper care of our cars, some we have no control over as things do break. Good routine maintenance and good servicing will stop many issues. This weekend for example, my 430 refused to start, or light up on key insertion, hunting about i removed all fuses as i thought it could be a busted one, none busted but when they were all clean and back in place the car started and has run perfectly since, could this have been prevented, maybe, fuse contacts do corrode over time if not moved i have since found out from an auto electrician, damp then dry in the air is the prime cause and add to that our fuses don't very often need replacing so we forget their even there. Why do you not mention any of the real issues we Lexus owners want addressing. The rims, why do Lexus make nice cars and put the crappest quality alloys on them known to galactic life, Why do they put "toys" on a car that serves only as a selling point, fridge for example, read my comment above. The conflicting issue of parts prices, from Lexus direct add a big markup, genuine part from an indipendant cheap as any other big manufacturer in relation. Many others we could gripe about but i don't have the time to go further.
  15. Hi Chris. I don't know if you've already seen this in the owners manual, but if you leave the physical metal key ring fob leaning onto either side (narrow sides) of the plastic key casing when starting or driving the car, it either won't start or will cut out shortly after starting. Also, if you have another key with a transponder on your keyring it can do the same thing as well. Worth a shot? Hope that helps. Chris. No other fob with a transponder anywhere near, and the metal key is well protected. I have resigned to the fact it must be a bad contact due to a bit of muck. Unless it happens again then Billy the 4lb quick adjustment tool will be in use.
  16. Have managed to sort it, just pulled out all the engine bay fuses one by one to check for fault, put them back and somehow she works, we think it must have been a poor contact or muck
  17. Oooh Mrs Chris likes them and is voting. On my ebay account too, I think I may be losing out here on this deal
  18. Maybe it's because we seldom open the bonnet, dust and cobwebs gather and do this to remind us to open the bonnet from time to time.
  19. Possibly why they didn't show. Looks like the part is 90467-07146
  20. There are some that you can link your smart phone to the car system, and from there you can start engine, lights, stereo, air con etc. But they cost stupid money. Operating a vehicle remotely personally I think is asking for trouble. And don't forget what the insurance company will say when you tell them, because you will have to as it is a modification and it could render insurance null if they find out after the fact. (happened to a mate on his motorcycle, lost 10k bike and insurance was nulled due to not aware of modification), remember insurance look for any way to get out of paying up. Even opening the windows means you have to stay within sight of it, or little slippy fingers may spot an opportunity and that is how most car crimes are committed anyway, opportunistic.
