After lots of reading and spiralling petrol prices I finally disconnected the negative cable from my battery in order to reset my ecu. My IS250 had been feeling a bit sluggish for a few weeks, and I had recently had a full service including plugs, oil and filters.
I had been averaging 23.7 mpg on my 12 mile daily commute of stop start traffic, but even in ECT mode the acceleration was not really up to par. I have owned this car for a year now, and suspect that the previous owner was an old fuddy duddy as the speed alert was set at 72 mph.
After reconnecting the battery lead, on the first attempt the car would not start(apparently quite normal), but started at the next push of the button. I drove sedately for a few miles, and noticed a slight vibrating noise coming from under the bonnet. This died away after about 2 miles. The car is making all kinds of strange electrical noises at the moment, but driving perfectly. It's as if it is resetiing everything. I have have it set to normal mode at the moment, and after 9 miles am already up to 25.2 mpg. It feels like a new car.
I will keep you posted on the progress.
