  1. had a mark 3 for 3 years and then a mark 4 for 2 years Last night spotted a very well priced 04 LS430 - couldnt resist so went to view it first thing and done the deal 9am. The LS430 is so much better - for those of you thinking of upgrading i would reccomend it - the extra gizmos i got over the Mark 4 are: Reversing camera front parking sensors keyless go colled seats aswell as heated drinks cooler folding mirrors blinds The 430 is smoother and quiete - drive is very effortless seating is very comfortable seating position higher gear change is unnoticeable where is the 400 you notice it more especially from cold keyless go is priceless and it comes with things like puddle lights and tire pressure monitor I must however add that i think the 430 has more road noise at speed but i could get used to that car has 110k and had the cambelt changed at 102k in august very happy - pics to follow soon
  2. your braver than me - i can just about manage oil changes and brake pads Let us know how you get on and more importantly wether it made any difference to the ride and cabin noise all the best
  3. very nice colour - same as mine before i sold it for a blue Mark 4 Ive always had continental on mine if thats any help and falkens always get a good reviews on this forum
  4. hi i have never read about this sort of problem the gear surround is easy enough to remove - just start lifting it at the cup holder end - unscrew the gearknob - and then disconnect the connectors at the back before removing it completeley - then have a look underneath - hopefully you will be able to locate the bulbs - my guess they are 504 or 286 bulbs hope this helps
  5. alright mike - long time no see? hows the car? settled down? sorry cant help with the hubcaps
  6. hi it wont play MP3s but it will play burned audio discs - or if you want to play music from your MP3 player or phone then the cheapest option is to buy a cassette adaptor which comes with a headphone jack - music quality is very good and it also works a handsfree kit if you get a call
  7. Yes - but you will only get hot air once the engine has warmed up sufficiently - the defrost function works very well on cold winters morning and will clear the screen in about 30 seconds - i dont know about others but i leave my AC on all year round even with the heat on - this means the cabin air is dryer therfore less sweaty hands and definatley more fresher as apposed to just the heat function. Also you dont get misted windows when its raining.
  8. try with ac on and off and see of it makes a difference - if yes they you have the same problem
  9. yep can relate to that - the car just does everything brialliantly and . . . . . quietly
  10. I tried that on my old Mark 4 struts - didnt work - i dont think they are designed to "pop" out - you wouldnt want them "popping" during normal use?? - these are the wrong struts in my opinion also the other guys who have bought replacements have bought them for the Mark 3 and 4 - not earlier models
  11. hi have a read here: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72485 towards the end it mentions the sensor being behind the bumper somewhere. HTH
  12. hi thats how it works - the front screen demister turns on the aircon and directs air towards the windscreen (aircon air is dry air therfore helps clear the windscreen) You wont get warm air untill the engine has warmed up sufficiently Normally i use the demist function for about 5 mins or so and then switch it off HTH
  13. hi rob congratulations on your new car - i can tell you thats a very rare find with that sort of low mileage. Yours is the DHP (Dynamic Handeling Pack) fitted means which means it sits lower, has a stiffer suspension and wider tyres to give a more firmer ride than the standard model You are right about being written off - these cars are old and replacement panels can be hard to find and very expensive so even minor knocks will right them off - you may have the option of demanding a repair or buying back the car at scrap value and repairing if you ever find yourself in that situation.
  14. Hi KiethI had the same experience when I drove my 98 from England to Scotland. The car was fine at motorway speeds but on tickover it was as rough as a Bears A~~~ ,turned out the battery was completly dubbed. The electrical system for the engine will take its primary power from the battery and if there is insufficient amperege in the battery it will not service the engine requirements efficiently, when the Battery is failing basically the alternator is running the car which is not a good thing This is the time of year that batteries fail most when they are asked to perform and are at the end of their life, they literally have a heart attack. So everyone should check the state of their battery before it lets you down. There is a tool at some quality workshops that will give a reliable reading of the battery state .Tell tale signs are interior light brightens and dims on increased engine revs . A simple test can be carried out at home just run the battery right down ,take it off the car and connect it too an old headlight from the scrapyard, then charge it up on a normal battery charger if it takes the charge well and charges up at a good rate then stays charged up it is in good shape ,if it loses the charge or takes a long time charging it is on its way out. cant really see someone doing that simple battery test you mention to be honest? unless I have read it wrong??
  15. Very nice looking motor - this was 15 miles from me and i was very tempted but couldnt bring myself to selling my Mark 4 which has only 78k on the clock When they do the service make sure the cabin filter is changed aswell as thats very often overlooked
  16. this happened to me aswell when i had my mark 3 - because the headlamp washers are rarely used they tend to blockup - on mine when i tried to use them the conneting tube came off - all you need to do is undo 2/3 wheel arch line screws and pop the pipe back where its come off and secure it with the clip HTH
  17. look for very old posts by a guy called Haylands on here - i remember him posting on here once about it
