  1. I started with a Mark 3 then the Mark 4 and now and LS430 and ive got to say i think the Mark 3 has the best looking body! - the curves are so nice! and the alloys really go well together - it just look as if the car is gliding along when i see one go past.
  2. I had these trims removed on my mark 3 and they were 2 seperate parts. If i remember correctly when i was enquiring for a replacement for my Mark 4 (and i remember seeing this when i was under it) that it is one part which runs right round - not 2 seperate parts. I cannot remember why i didint replce it in the end - sorry this was 2 years ago
  3. hi it might be an idea to post up details of the parts used, costs incurred and write up on how to tackle the job as this is a very common problem on the Mark 3 LS400 and im sure LOC members would be very interested
  4. Ive just bought some 9 led 501 bulbs to replace with - is this what you have done? please elaborate thanks
  5. Hi mark You are in the same boat i was not long ago - i also thought about going back to the LS400 (moer so when it was parked in the back) but the LS430 has grown on me and as someone mentioned when you do sit back in the 400 after a while you do feel the difference in equipment and refinement massively. I have got rid of the bridgstones and put some continentals on and that i has improved the ride marginally in terms of smoothness over uneven road surfaces. Partly why you hear more road noise is because you don't hear the engine in the 430 You will get used to it - im sure all the best with this one and moving the 400 on p.s the 400 sold on sunday - and i got full asking price so if you dont get interest immediatley stick to your guns
  6. hi if you want to retrofit some then its very simple - no need to remove bumper - once you drill a hole there is space behind the bumper to feed a wire through - just feed the wires into the boot - one connection goes to earth - the other to the reverse light. The screen can be fitted on the dash and the wires fed under the drivers side kick plates hope this helps
  7. Have you considered wether an LPG conversion is financially viable
  8. Hi I am sure they can be replaced as a member replaced theirs some while back - best and only option is ring the dealer - if memory serves me right they are around £80
  9. right! this is getting out of hand - we cant have LOC members lacking in crucial basic knowledge here........... those of you who think it does have a super charger on the left and those of you who think it does not on the right. All members with the wrong answer will be enrolled on a Level 2 "Lexus LS Specification" course!!
  10. i have never heard of pumps failing Is the pump easy to replace - can you do it yourself? If the answer is yes then perhaps you could buy a working pump and then ti over to see if it makes a difference I think this will give you a cost effective and quick diagnostic to your problem and perhaos cure the problem
  11. hi sam just to confirm mine doesnt have a relay in there (and my ac works)
  12. hi the Mark 4 never came with sensors - these would be retrofit - these are very simple 2 wire connections When i fitted mine i took the live from the rear reversing lights in the boot lid and earthed it to the vehicle body metal in the boot - i would have a good look around the boot - find these wires and check for any broken connections I would also check the live wire as it goes from the boot lid to the boot area - maybe continous bending and straightening as the boot has been opened and closed has caused it to break hope this helps
  13. hi first of all have a read here - same questions was asked not long ago: http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=79953 Have a read here where i have listed the comon faults to look out for when buying: http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=79931 And finally i upgraded to 04 plate facelift LS430 couple fo months ago - the following is from my original post : The LS430 is so much better - for those of you thinking of upgrading i would reccomend it - the extra gizmos i got over the Mark 4 are: Reversing camera front parking sensors keyless go colled seats aswell as heated drinks cooler folding mirrors blinds The 430 is smoother and quieter driven locally - drive is very effortless seating is very comfortable seating position higher gear change is unnoticeable where is the 400 you notice it more especially from cold keyless go is priceless and it comes with things like puddle lights and tire pressure monitor Now 2 months later I can tell that the only gripe i have is the extra road noise - the is perhaps down to lower profile tyres or maybe the tyres themselves. Keyless go - no looking for keys - just walk upto the car and go - love it. rain sensing wipers - initially i thought i was a gimic - but in reality work very well and adjust accoridng to speed and rain or when your driving into an underground car park - they respond accordingly by switching off Reversing camera allows you to park in tighter spots I would say the general consensus on the 400 is that the mark 4 was the best out of the lot - with the LS430 due to the lack of numbers and the fact that every individual sees things differently - i would say go and drive one make your mind up from there Overall i would recommend the upgrade - i dont agree with the fact they are not well built - i think its just aswell built Hope this helps
  14. There a write up here with pictures if its any help http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls430/536358-front-wheel-bearing-hub-replacement-how-to-04-06-ls430.html
  15. Hi The problem with these cars is they are so quite and smooth that the slightest start sounds like a problem and for me what makes it worse is i havent had the car long and cannot quite figure it out is wether the sound is normal. I tend to get a slight rumble when driving - its the sort of sound you get if you put your lips together and blow through them (sort of thing kids do when trying to imitate engine sound) Is this normal? Could it be the bridgestone Potenzas being a hard compound making the noise Or is it the low profile tyres - im considering trying continental tyres as thats what i had on the Mark 4 - or is it normal and should i leave them alone?? Sorry i cannot provide an answer to your questions but i thought id share my problem (or not) BTW what tyres are you running regards
  16. chris sorry to hijack the thread but what you currently running on your 430? and feedback please - i have bridgestones on mine and cant decide wether im be hyper critical over tyre noise i get - thanks
  17. Health and Safety warning, if you wear a tie make sure you tuck it in your shirt before listening to the noise or you may find yourself getting closer to the belt than you would would like. :D I rang Lexus and spoke to one of the mechanics who worked on the car and he does not recall any noises like i describe, but he said it sounds like the belt could be wearing. I like the screwdriver stethoscope idea, will try it. The tie thing is one I won't ever do after seeing a near fatal incident years back when I worked at Raleigh Cycles, although he did lose 2 fingers in the same incident, maybe it was his bad day. I will stick a bit of oil on the pulley later to see if that sorts it, Unsure to the AC as the noise is there with it on or off. I did speak to a local (2minutes walk) mechanic who worked on my old Ls400, he reckons it sounds like the engine belt and will happily replace it for £50 if I supply the belt. I may just do that anyway as the belt is probably from new so won't do any harm. Will let you know. £50 sounds a bit steep - have a look at this video:
  18. That second one is quite close to me. Just wondering what SWMBO would say if i bought another one!!! she might say "money well spent"?
  19. just for reference: We are talking 2 different cars and 2 different problems here: On the mark 4 (evans web write up) the height sensor bracket seizes and breaks causing the headlamp levelling malfunction. This problem can be relatively cheap to fix as outlined on evans web - this problem is mainly on the Mark 4 - Problem can be prevented by check the sensor bracket on a regualr basis and lubrictaing so the the system does not seize The LS430 ride height sensor is totally different problem - in the scenario the sensors fail due to water ingress therfore the adjustable suspension does not work. The is the problem mikesands has just described and obviously can be an expensive fix and this problem is mainly on the LS430s - possibly more on the older ones HTH
  20. yes ofcourse but you got to convince Malc to sell me his 18K Mark 4 Still early days though - but it is annoying this pressing buttons - but then im thinking i dont have to press anything to unlock the car so that evens it out lol
  21. yep - its annoying when someone like me will only use the sat nav once in a blue moon - ill have to get used to pressing "i agree" and Climate on a regular basis!
