  1. Make sure you check with the dealer. They have substantial discounts for cars older than 5 years. In the past one year Lexus Croydon have twice given me a cheaper quote than Albin B Motors.
  2. With Mark Levinson you can't get rid of the Amplifier as it does some kind of decoding. You will have to do some research here as this might be the case with the standard stereo too in which case you will have to install a line output converter to the wiring going to one of your speakers and then subsequently install your aftermarket amplifier.
  3. Apart from the center speaker on the front dash you will have all the speakers that Mark Levinson has and an amp in the same place too. The standard stereo is very boomy so you probably won't need additional sub woofers. The bass will be hard in comparison to the soft bass that the mark levinson has so you may not like it. The thing you will probably miss the most is the treble from the Levinson! Some tweeters on the front dash can fix that. You may also have the wiring in place for the center speaker so it's just a matter of prying the grill off and checking.
  4. It's steam. Water inside the exhaust being burned off. It's normal and looks cool too with the dual exhaust. ;)
  5. Fuel in UK is more expensive. It's 2-2.5 times more expensive than USA/Australia. People want fuel efficient cars and Lexus didn't make any until recently. There is a big market for diesel cars here and although Lexus tried with the IS220d it had too many flaws. The IS300H is better suited to the European market and is more likely to get Lexus some recognition here but it will take time. The car is too fresh at the moment.
  6. 17" Stock: 17 x 8J ET45 (all around) 18" Stock: 18x8J ET45 Front and 18 x 8.5J ET55 Rear
  7. Wow.. I thought it was more of a local thing but It's wonderful to see that people really make an effort to attend such meets. I'll definitely be there. :)
  8. I am really keen to attend, as would like to see what the fuss is about these LS400's :) The only thing putting me off is that it's a 300 mile round trip for me. I hope the weather gets nicer by April so I can find the motivation needed to make the trip. I will be keeping a tab on this thread...
  9. You should get a notification on the dash for low battery before the fob dies on you. I wonder if there is some kind of interference around you that is depleting the battery at a faster then normal rate.
  10. :( So sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, it looks like your car will be written off.
  11. The IS has a staggered wheel setup. I think you mean 225/40/18 Front and 255/40/18 Rear which is the correct tyre size for the alloys that you have. If MPG is a concern then you need to change your car. This will not give you the kind of mileage you are after.
  12. I would imagine it is a hardware issue (especially with the sound it is making) but a good starting point will be to put in a different disc. See if you can borrow one from the dealers or if you have any local LOC members that can help you. My advise is to remove the disc until you can try an alternate one.
  13. The OEM Ipod kit isn't great in the sense that if you have a decent collection you will probably find yourself disconnecting the ipod, navigating between albums and then connecting it back again. I don't think it's possible to navigate between albums? Or maybe I don't know how to do it... There is also the limit of 99 songs per album/playlist which can be really annoying. Vaistech units that integrate the display from your phone into the car are good alternatives but quite expensive at the moment.
  14. If you flood the engine you need to depress the accelerator while starting the car. This will get rid of the excessive fuel and start the car.
  15. The BMW M Sport is very exciting to drive from factory. The IS250 (even the F Sport ones) are not even close. You can spend money on the Lexus to bring it close to the BMW experience but that sort of deceives the purpose. Between the two of these, BMW is the clear choice if you are a thrill seeker.
  16. Two kinds of air filters: - Paper based (non reusable) - Oil based (reusable) The oil in the filter serves as a magnet for dust and all other kinds of crap. When the filter is dirty you are supposed to clean it (using water) which gets rid of the oil. Hence re oiling is necessary to keep the filter more efficient after you have washed it.
  17. Are you sure it is inside the headlight and not just on the surface which looks like it is inside the headlight? The headlight is a sealed unit so it's unusual for water to get in there.
  18. You guys may want to research 'water decarbonization'. I haven't tried it yet but in theory it sounds excellent.
  19. There is a thread about this here somewhere. This wont clean your inlet valves. It is not too different to a can of BG44k.
  20. Is the glass acoustic or is that just a myth. No Idea. There is a somebody in here who fits windscreens for a living so would be able to help you a lot better. Can't remember who it was.
  21. The OEM glass is manufactured by Pilkington too so it's practically the same thing. If your car has the wiper deicers then make sure you mention this to them.

  23. Can't help you with the legal bit but you should not get any errors on the dash. The car does not have CANBUS.
