  1. They have almost the same efficiency. The difference is mostly because specific energy in gasoline is LESS than in diesel fuel, so the main factor is about cost of different fuels , not about efficiency itself. That's the reason because in Europe there are so many diesel cars. Usually the point not considered is that, even when electric is not used, the Atkinson cycle of Toyota/Lexus hybrids are efficient like diesel engines and with less complications. Of course there are also disadvantages, but electric traction compensates the scarce low rpm power of Atkinson's engine.
  2. Really it is not the proper procedure, as with ignition ON you will read the charge tension coming from charging system (around 14 V), to read battery V you have to let ignition OFF.
  3. I do not live in Germany, here the speed limit is 130 kph. Besides, even on autobahn in Germany limits exist for many traits, and being worried of mpg driving at 200 kph is a nonsense. If I'd need 250 kph I would again drive an hybrid, like my previous GS450h, but even now, with RX that can reach 200 kph I just teste that speed one time in Germany for few kms.
  4. A 10 years old battery could be the problem. Have you left your RX unused for many days ? My suggestion is to verify the battery voltage and trying with a charge.
  5. You are quite optimistic. The story that hybrids are a wrong choice for motorways is true only for speeds suitable to be arrested. In my last motorway trip respecting speed limits (+10 km/h), AC on, and moderate traffic , with RX I made about 37 mpg. But giving a look to Q5 vs NX300h : Diesel consumption: Audi - Q5 - Spritmonitor.de Consumption: Lexus - NX300h - Spritmonitor.de The average is 7.53 vs 7.63 l/100 km , almost the same, but if you give a look to extreme averages between users, you will notice that in Q5 they vary from 4.13 to 10.25, while NX are from 6.48 to 8.65. What does this mean? If you pay attention to your driving style you can achieve better mpg with Audi, but if you drive without attention ( with strong speed changes and braking) you become a friend of your gas station guy much more than with a Hybrid.
  6. Any info to enter service menu for RX 450h with Mark Levinson my 2016?
  7. It seems the sound coming from brakes engaging, normal.
  8. It should be possible to have a single display on screen. Try giving a look on configuration menu.
  9. I the vertical line where you select the secondary screen (radio, engine data etc.) there is a ">" sign , click there and screen becomes single.
  10. 12" screen is for double data display, and usually I let it divided left side with map and right side with radio or energy monitor, bur I tried sometimes single display on all size screen, with maps, and it works.
  11. Uhm, probably the point is that video is 16:9 ratio, so if you also set the screen for single vision, the height of screen does not change 🙂 Expand option only cuts upper and lower of video image so that you can see a bigger image losing slices of original source.
  12. A really helpful android app to get the best mpg results with RX and other cars also is Hybrid Assistant. It works with OBD interfaces (some suggested on site but you can boy whatever you like). The app is from eCVT enthusiast app developers and totally free and they made a great work. Hybrid Assistant
  13. Short journeys, especially in winter, are the worst situations for mpg results. In a hybrid , you can have some advantage keeping car parked in warm ambient, not using AC till engine is at working temperature (meanwhile heated seats are very useful), and avoid moving , or moving very slowly, during 1st minute of thermal engine on (it is called S1 phase and it uses much petrol); to force in your hybrid thermal engine start you have, after coming to ready state in P, to press accelerator pedal and when engine is on depress it leaving it to do S1 phase, if you need or are in a hurry you may go in D avoiding to exceed 20 mph. Another suggestion to spare some fuel is to drive in ECO mode, where also AC is made to work without needing to set thermal engine on for heating abitacle. Remember that short journeys are the main reason you achieve low mpg, as the first minutes are the worst fuel wasting times, better programming longer ones if possible. A last suggestion, in winter tyres pressure goes down, control it and restore proper pressure if it is low.
  14. LPG is a different matter. No need of high pressure tanks, while H2 require 300 or also 600 atm.. Besides, LPG is just a minimal part from petrol , while H2 can be produced by any energy source (actually it's only a energy vector), and totally ecological, burning it and producing water. Another point is the need only of a little battery, and this means no extra weight, that is already a problem for cars, but absolutely a no way for big vehicles like boats, trains, airplanes. Probably in future years battery EV cars will be used for city short trips and nightly recharging, but H" will be more and more important.
  15. The answer why it is not possible an automatic setting of max speed accordingly to signal recognition is that there are many reason that make this not a good choice: a fault in reading could make sudden and not explicable slowing in car speed, for example for a forgotten sign on road or also a wrong recognition of a sign on the rear of a truck and so on, so better leave the choice to human driver. Besides, at least where I live, speed limits most of the time are not so logical, while they are more coherent in Germany, i.e.
  16. I suggest you to read last topics about RX to have a general picture. About L version, it has been created from "normal length" RX to satisfy request for 7 seats and it seems a bit less likeable than RX, it's up to your needs the choice of more seats losing boot space and with less comfy rear interiors. If not so necessary I would go for 5 seats and Premier or Sport version with ML audio, now available with android auto.
  17. During my experiments I used a miracast device connected to A/V input for mirroring my android cell and it worked, but the problem is the safety feature that switch video off if car is moving . There is a mod interface but I decided to avoid touching ML.
  18. Speed limit is only a reading help, you can vary cruise speed by large steps (5 km/h here) to set speed accordingly to sign. Besides, if you are in queue speed is already set by preceding vehicle so you may ignore the procedure.
  19. On my RX adaptive cruise control and LKA work fine, and car can also come to a complete stop if necessary, very useful. Road sign recognition works too, and in my opinion is just a reminder for the driver that should already know signs by himself. It does not affect the car speed, but you can see from it if you are driving in respect of limits of you have exceeded them (signal gets red).
  20. In few months will be sold first RAV4 hybrid plug-in , while soon also Lexus UX EV. Said this, RX is another segment of SUVs.
  21. A video: Lexus RX 450 h - FACELIFT 2020 - if it ain't broke, why fix it? - YouTube
  22. Usually when journalists compare RX 450h with competitor SUVs, the critics are always the same, low max speed, low 0-60 for the power, eCVT noise and scarce "sportiness", infotainment "old". Same old words. And nothing so noticeable in real use. Meanwhile, they don't talk much about absolute comfort and absence of vibrations in engine, and excellent mpg you can have in city driving (but also comparable in highways ) , superior to any other SUV, even diesel one. They don't say a word about maintenance costs and purchase price , too. So, if you want a SUV to race against other ones, may be better buying an Audi or Porsche diesel, if you like real wellbeing go for an RX.
  23. I had GS 450h and now a RX 450h, and in my opinion ML in GS was slightly better than ML in RX, even if both are quite good.
  24. Welcome Andrew to LOC, as a RX owner I absolutely love it. About your questions: Is the cream/brown interior option as bad in the flesh as it looks on some of the dealers pictures? My RX interior is so and I think it give more "space" compared to black interior, the only disadvantage could be it is more sensitive to get dirty (but having no kids around to be worried it is not a problem to me). Should I push hard for the newer model, or have they remained largely similar Lexus philosophy is based on continuous improvements , you have to evaluate if for you the new features like android auto and blade lights are important or not compared to money difference from previous model. Adaptive suspensions is a matter of version, and it is another feature to consider. I love my music, I would love to afford the ML system but may have to be content with the standard system - probably a subjective one, but are you happy with the 'standard' set up My RX has ML and it is very good, so I can't say how standard audio is, too subjective to say if it's enough. The blade LED headlights look cool, are they that much better than the single LED lamp - only asking as we live in a dark national park and good vision at night is paramount! I have matrix led with automatic high beam and they are very effective, I guess new blade system is even better, but I am satisfied yet.
  25. Isn't the noise the normal sound of brakes hydraulic circuit pressure "charging"?
