  1. Is there room for one more, or are the books closed? If I get my car back tommorrow, I might be able to make it up to Leeds on Sunday. Is it still 11ish at Lotherton Hall?
  2. In conjunction with the foot brake, it might have been possible to stop it with the handbrake. I think that the handbrake alone would have just heated up and faded, particularly as the accelerator was depressed beyond the kickdown stop. As the car slowed, it would have kept changing down through the gears increasing the torque.
  3. This evening, while travelling into Nottingham, I had a bit of a scare in the IS200 SE Auto courtesy car which I am using while my GS is having some balljoints replaced. I accelerated hard (foot flat to the floor) onto an A road, upto about 50MPH ,and then released the accelerator. The car continued to accelerate at the same rate. By the time I had realized what was happening, I was doing about 70MPH. The brakes made hardly any difference. :o I like to think that I am a mechanically sympathetic kind of chap, so I turned the engine off rather than shifting into neutral and leaving a brand new engine (400 miles) bouncing of its rev limiter. This allowed me to coast to a stop in a layby. I was surprised how bad the brakes were with no power assistance. :duh: After a brief inspection of the accelerator, I saw that the very bottom edge of the pedal had wedged itself under the mat. The mats are genuine Lexus ones, but the retaining clip near the seat was missing, allowing it to ride forward. I'm glad that I remained calm and had at least some idea about how to stop a car in this situation. I told my 17 year old brother what had happened when I got home, and he said that he wouldn't have had any idea what to do. If he had been driving, he would probably have ploughed into the back of a line of traffic at some traffic lights at about 90MPH. That would have been nasty... Make sure your mats are securely fastened down chaps!
  4. Steve, If you'd planned ahead you could have set up a company selling snow chains for Shopmobility carts. You'd have made a fortune! B)
  5. How's this for you Steve? Closest I could find... Link
  6. There is about 1cm on the ground in Southwell (Notts). I think that I'll be using my brother's Golf tomorrow if it carries on. What's the weather like elsewhere?
  7. Hard luck mate. Look on the bright side though, it could have been much worse.
  8. I was going to arrange to get mine tinted next week. Probably not such a good idea now...
  9. How do the dealers change the CBEST settings? Is it a laptop with special software job, or something a bit simpler that someone (me for instance) could do? I was thinking particularly about changing the sensitivity of the auto-lights. I would like them to be more sensitive, but would ideally prefer to experiment with different settings.
  10. I have noticed this as well. Why is it though, that when I follow Volvos on A roads, they always seem to be doing 47MPH, whichever speedo I am using? :P
  11. What tyres would people recommend for a GS 300 Mark 2 Sport? My preference are for quietness and comfort rather than performance. Mine has Pirellis of some description on at the moment. What tyres do other people use?
  12. Yes they do look good. Ifraz has got these on his car. I think that Zee and some others have them as well. They are easy to fit - just double sided sticky pads or silicon does the trick. I helped Ifraz with his, it only took a couple of minutes.
  13. Halfords didn't have any when I looked, so I bought them from Lexus. Seems strange that the ones that Lexus supply tell you to consult your dealer for fitting instructions. Maybe they have an 'arrangement' with Lucas or something... All that is visible on the light itself is 2 little circles, so I didn't fancy making a guess. I will be certain to ask them for a quote next time before getting small jobs done. Anyway, I know how to fit them now. If anyone else wants any fitted, I'll do them for £20, and If they are LOC members, I'll even knock the VAT off. That's less than half of the Lexus main dealer price. Bargain.
  14. Steve, you could try to arrange a gold members discount with them... :P
  15. My brother just got a job working for this company. I think that he develops new recipes. I have only tried one bottle, but was impressed. Very expensive though!
  16. Thanks for the advice. I'll stop turning the A/C button off. I don't like turning features I have paid for off anyway!
  17. I'm not quite sure how the climate control should work on my MkII GS. If I turn the whole system off, and then press the Auto button, the air con comes on and stays on. Should it not only come on when required? I thought that the manual said that it turns on and off automatically. I can turn it off manually though. Also, if I turn the air-recirculation to 'Auto', the air conditioning comes on. If I turn the aircon off, the 'Auto' air recirc light goes off as well. Is this normal? The only time the air con doesn't come on is when the temperature is below 0 degrees. :duh:
  18. What sort of driving is this - heavy traffic or long runs. It was a mixture of A roads (not very much traffic) and a few trips into Nottingham city centre in traffic. Mainly 60MPH ish though. I just filled up again, and got 24.5mpg (340 miles on £48 fuel at 76.9p/litre). My BMW 528i Auto used to do between 27-29MPG on the same journey. When I first bought the GS, I did 2 trips to Manchester and back through the peak district and got about 26MPG.
  19. I never cut in at the last minute. I don't like confrontation....
  20. Last tankfull was 22.4MPG. Was hoping for a bit better than that. The first tank I used in it was about 26MPG. It seems to be getting slowly but surely worse, about 1MPG per tank...
