Radio beeping noise

I remember reading, I think it was on US Forum, that the clicking is an indication of a main amplifier failure. Apparently, the system does this to show that there is still power but a failure has occurred. -
Ls400 non-use issues

If Greta and her gang get their way, we won't be allowed to drive big-engined cars for much longer. Get out there and drive the wonderful beasts! -
It's got to be more than just suspension. My car has about the same mileage and just passed it's MOT. There were no advisories and the suspension and steering have no signs of play. It would be nice to find out just what is wrong with it. Can one of you look at its MOT history and see if there is anything that stands out?

When I bought my car, it was from a local Lexus dealer. My car had been their demonstrator, then the Managing Directors run around. When I was test driving it, I asked the salesman if he could demonstrate the self parking. He went very pale and stammered a lot 😞 That was enough for me. I would never trust parking to a system that takes almost 100 manual pages to describe! On the other hand, I do find the auto parking brake and the Brake Hold very useful.

Hi Zed, Welcome to the club. Your 460 looks identical to mine - except that mine is LHD. Malc is correct about the fuel - you must use E5. Another thing you might like to think about is having the radiator replaced, if it hasn't already been done. The 430/460 range can have problems with contamination between cooling water and cooling oil. I had mine done at about 100,000 miles/12 years. The mechanic said that there were signs of corrosion on the radiator.

Having spent my whole working life in the vicinity of aviation jet engines, I wholly endorse John's post. Like most of my ex-colleagues, I am partially high-tone deaf - and I wore ear protection. The very worst in-car noise I experienced was back in the 90's. I had arrived in Barbados and the taxi driver, driving a huge 'Yank Tank', put my suitcase on the roof rack. I asked him what was wrong with the boot.......he opened it to reveal two massive bass speakers and a couple of smaller tweeters. On the way into Bridgetown he told me he was a member of of a club whose 'raison d'etre' was to find out who could have the loudest in-car music. We pulled off on to a patch of waste ground and he demonstrated his system. He didn't turn the volume up very much 'cos you ain't used to it' but I thought my body was going to break into small pieces. The vibrations that went through me were incredible. After a few seconds, I'd had enough. He invited me to join him and his friends, later, for one of their 'maximum' demonstrations. I politely declined. Look after your hearing.

I had a drain on my 460 which resulted in 2 free replacement batteries. After the second battery, the garage decided to do a full electrical check. It turned out to be a tracking device fitted by a previous owner. It, apparently, came with 2 years free subscription but wasn't renewed. So, it just sat there, connected directly to the battery, slowly draining power. It wasn't noticeable till the car sat for 2 weeks or more. By that time the battery was flat. Who knows what was fitted to your car before you owned it. It might be an idea to cough up the cash to have a really good auto-electrician look at it.

New sparkys

I think most of us, even Malc, will be OK with you changing 23 year-old spark plugs. 😄 -

I remember, when I bought my first LS (Mk3 400) back in '97, I read an article which stated that the Mk3 LS400 had the lowest drag co-efficient of any production saloon car - I can't remember the actual number. In comparison, the RX has the aerodynamic qualities of a house brick. 😄 That could be the answer to your question. -
£15k LS430

The Road Tax over here in Holland is about £1200.00 for the 460, but the roads are great. The point I was trying to make was that it costs about £100 to fill the tank with E5 so, if you measure the road tax difference in tankfuls, it really isn't that significant........especially if, like me, your Lexus is your daily drive. -

Quite honestly, I think that complaining about the price of road tax is like being unhappy with the mpg.........these are expensive cars to run, period. -

Amen to that! We've just had our first 'Seniors' golf morning, since the relaxation of rules here. First thing on the agenda was a 2 minute silence for the 6 guys we've lost to Covid. Life is for living...........and enjoying your LS!
