  1. Back in my 400 days, I found my internal boot release lever badly bent. The car had been laid up for a couple of months and I'd taken it for a full valet to spruce it up. The young lad doing the cleaning had bent the lever trying to open the boot.....not realising that it was an electrical switch and it had been disabled. Luckily, it was only bent and could be 'persuaded' back into shape.
  2. We have had an LS as our 'daily drive' since 1997..........except for a few months in 2012, when we decided to try an SUV - an RX400h. During those few months, I asked my wife (who has always loved driving the LS's) what she thought of the RX. All she said was 'It's not an LS'. A few days later, I took the RX back and swapped it for our current 460.
  3. I have a 2007 LS 460 which is just coming up to 120,000 miles. I've had no problems with the struts at all, having owned it since 2013. My local Lexus dealer gave me an exercise regime for the suspension which I do once a month: 1. Run the suspension in all its modes for at least 30 miles each.. 2. Run the suspension on HIGH for at least 30 miles. I, also, do the same for the gearbox settings. Oh, and don't drive the LS as if it was an LFA 😄 Hope this helps.
  4. I can concur with that. I had the same problem with my '94 LS400 and the Camry insert fixed it.
  5. Being an audio engineer for so many years is definitely an advantage, but you need to have good hearing abilities as well. I spent all my working life in and around large aviation jet engines and I'm high-tone deaf. We have a BOSE sound system at home......lots of people who visit (or did before Covid) are impressed by the sound quality but, to me, it sounds no better or worse than lots of others. Before spending a lot of money on high-spec sound, it is a good idea to get your hearing checked out.
  6. OK, I have no idea why this keeps going to the wrong reference. This is the bit I was talking about: Established Member 3 537 posts Name: Jeremy Lexus Model: LS460 Year of Lexus: 2007 Location: Norfolk Posted October 27, 2009 I have posted this before... (It was written by someone involved in the DHP in the first place): Hi, I am the guy who did DHP spec for LS 400. For reference - Spring rate + 10% only, Height -10mm all round, rear anti roll bar + 1mm to aid turn in. Tyres Pirelli P Zero 245/50x17 Jaguar spec (XK8?). No change to dampers. Car was done to please Lexus MD, but dealers liked it so we began to sell it ! Ride wasn't bad, but clearly firmer than standard. Any other tyres make much worse. If you want ride quality back, just fit standard springs again. Note- front suspension quite close to bump stoppers, so ride will suffer if springs have sagged with time.
  7. Sorry guys, that was the wrong reference. Try this: Dhp Specification - LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club - Lexus Owners Club
  8. This reference tells you the size and where the DHP idea came from..........
  9. This might be of interest: Lexus Ls400 Dhp - LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club - Lexus Owners Club
  10. 'Use her lots and lots, it's one of the very best cars ever for long long wonderful drives around the world when one can' Totally agree, I have used mine as daily drives/long distance and enjoyed them tremendously.
  11. Congratulations Zak, you really have found a super example. The mileage is amazing......it has done less than 2,000 miles a year. It is, almost, identical to the '94 model that I owned for 15 years - same colour and interior. Only difference was that I had gold lettering and numbers.
  12. Back in the day.......around 2000, Lexus had a 'wheel swop' service. You pre-booked a wheel change then took your car in. They had a set of refurbished wheels waiting and swapped the tyres over. IIRC, it cost about £350 and I thought it was worth it. I had mine done at Lexus Glasgow. I think it came about because the early 400s (mine was a '94) had lacquered wheels and the protection wore off pretty quickly.
  13. Oh.......I'm sure that, if you were willing to send a return air ticket and arrange accommodation, Steve would be more than willing to help. 😁
  14. I'm surprised you could find a stretch of British road where the potholes would allow you to do 80mph.
  15. I've had Michelin Pilot Sports on mine, for 16 months, and they are certainly quieter than the Dunlop SPs they replaced. I haven't noticed any, significant, difference in handling. I'm thinking of putting all-weather tyres on next time.
  16. I've been trying to think when, before that incident, that I'd had a flat tyre. It was in the late '80s, before my first LS. Believe me, I have definitely learned my lesson. Next time (if there is one) the golf can wait.
  17. I'm at the same stage, Stuart. Advancing years and creaky joints mean that I, normally, let my local garage do all the work. About 6 months ago, I was driving down a motorway when the TPMS indicated a deflating tyre. I pulled into a service station and had a look - there was a nail in a rear tyre. This was the first flat I'd had in years and, being on my way to a booked tee time, I decided to do it myself. To say it was a struggle is an understatement, and my body suffered for days. In future, I'll wait for assistance. BTW, what was the problem with your LS?
  18. You couldn't resist it, could you, Malc? Gout acting up again? 😀
  19. I'm afraid there's a Brexit/Remain, Vax/Antivax mindset on here when it come to coils or air. Whatever suits you is good for me. 🙂
  20. Have you, perhaps, been servicing the car with the engine off, radio on and the doors open? In the early days of the 400 a lot of us (including me) made the mistake of not appreciating just how much of a drain there is on the battery under non-normal circumstances.
  21. No, I think it is something like gout or haemorrhoids.......because there is a flare-up every few months.
  22. And those TV remotes.......what a waste of time.......too much silly technology! 😁
  23. I'm in Holland and there are only a few here. I concur with what Malc says wrt the radiator change. I had mine done at 100,000 miles and the mechanic said that there was signs of 'stress'.
