  1. Think you'll probably be ok with the obvious length of the induction tube, I just thought I'd offer my 2p's worth - are there any fords (water type not mondeo type - we go through them all the time - tee hee) round your way that you go through? If so - do be careful!!!!
  2. Javadude - If I understand where you've put this correctly, is it not in danger of sucking up a slug of water if you splash through a big puddle? If memory serves, one of the Renaults a few years back had a low down air scoop and blown engines (water will not compress!) were pretty frequent!
  3. When my ignition barrel broke, I got a new one from Lexus (£75!!!!!!) and had a local locksmith rebuild it to my original key, 30 mins, £15, job done!
  4. Trust Mat to reply in style - doesnt that Jag look gorgeous
  5. Anyone that can start and run a company and keep it afloat whilst employing people and actually doing something useful with the output deserves a big pat on the back in my opinion, and if in the meantime they manage to turn a profit then they deserve every penny, not that Flash Gordon wants you to keep any of it!!
  6. As Steve2006 so rightly says, High Tension Leads = Spark Wires (2 countries separated by the same language!!). My throttle body was really thick with carbon when I cleaned it, and it did make a difference when I did it, but whether it would account for the problem that you are having is another matter (unlikely to be the whole problem!). I have had no trouble with acceleration apart from it was a bit 'bobbly' when I first got it which was solved by plugs and leads. Sounds like you spent a lot of time and money on yours and its a shame that it hasnt given you the car as it should be. Good Luck Dave
  7. What's up Dave? Remove my post? Explain please. Carlo. Sorry Carlo - I didnt mean remove yours - I meant remove mine which was posted in the wrong place, so I editted it and removed the text which left a blank post, just trying to be tidy - sorry for the confusion. Dave
  8. Nope - sorry - I dont do that sort of thing now! My LS is now 13 years old with 156k on the clock, I treat her gently, altho having said that I do tow a large heavy caravan around with it frequently!!! However - when I first got it 4 years ago, I gave it a blast and got to a very silly speed very quickly and I dont think its changed much! Sounds like you are having big probs with yours, I'd look at HT leads, spark plugs, throttle body for starters. Look on Lexls.com at the tutorials if you need some good help on how to do these things Good Luck Dave
  9. If you'd said what you were after in your original post, you might have got some constructive replies!! Mine gives me a 0-60mph of around 8 seconds, yours appears to be around 14-15, yes yours is quite slow.
  10. FINALLY, got a positive reply (after 6 emails back and fore) from USA ref the bonnet rams - they're out of stock!!! They will let me know as and when they are in stock. Ref mkIII and IV - they dont know for sure whether they will fit, they are unsure on the bonnet weight versus mkI and II. If you are still in the mood for replacing these (whatever mk) PM me and when I finally get a pair I'll post the dimensions etc, the III and IV bonnet weights surely cant be THAT different. Dave
  11. Was on the beach at Winchelsea with my Lab many years ago, he wandered off and stepped into a mud hole (beach is well known for them). He sunk up to his shoulders immediatly, wife shouts (something or other) me runs to dog with him looking at me soulfully ("***** Dad - I'm sinking!!") so I stepped in to help him out, sunk up to my thighs (jeans on of course), so he walked out the other side leaving me thigh deep and the wife laughing hysterically. Its not a fair world!!!!
  12. So - currently with Norwich Union, all bells and whistles, £120 excess, £60 windscreen, 5 years protected NCB etc etc - they wanted £464. Hmmm - bit much I thought - so I ring around, go on the net etc etc and end up with a quote from Direct Line matching my current policy at £330 - OK thinks I, sounds good, so I ring NU to cancel. Automated answer (what else??), "press 2 to cancel your policy", 2 gets pressed and I expect to get through to somewhere in India but NO, I get a chatty Liverpudlian! NU - "So sir, what is the reason for wanting to cancel - a cheaper quote elsewhere?" Me - "Yes - £130 cheaper" I said smugly NU - " Well sir, we've just realised that our quotations have been going out too high and we are starting to ring our customers to tell them" Yeah right!!!!! NU - "If we can match your current quote would you stay with us?" Me - mercenary to the end "Of course!" So he then quotes me £330 (strange that - smack on) and then says NU - "one moment, I'll ask my manager if I can reduce it even more, is that OK?" Me - "Ummmm ..... Of course its OK!" He obviously sold double glazing in a former job! So he went for at least 10 secs then came back with NU - "Ok sir - all up that will be £326 - will that be OK?" Well you cant actually snatch his arm off over the phone but you get my drift So - same policy - no agg - no wondering what a new company is gonna be like and I save £138 and pence into the bargain. Reeeeeesult! Dave :D :D :D :D
  13. I signed up with them a while ago, nothings happened yet but they do keep their userbase informed of whats happening. Got an email from them yesterday saying that they are looking at May/June for something to happen. As swfcdan said, it takes no time at all to sign up, takes no time to stay involved and theres a possibilty of cheaper petrol. As an offer of a service I think it has its possibilities, what reasons are there for not joining?
  14. Just trawling my (huge) bookmark folder (note to self - SORT IT OUT) and came across this link, its still valid and looks OK. http://www.lostcarkeys.co.uk/ The possible answer to a perennial problem! They appear to offer a good service - not used them myself but they may get somebody out of a hole Hope it helps someone! Dave

  16. Yes of course - thanks chris - the VIN is on a plate under the bonnet
  17. Unknown! Next time I see them I'll ask. What sort of things could be 'adjustable' under the bonnet to make it pass?
  18. Finally got a reply from USA yesterday - they are looking into what will fit what!!! I'll keep you posted Dave Yes, mine always work better in the summer, all down to gas being more errrrrrrr gassy when its warm I suppose. <techybit>If you 'pump' the bonnet up and down a few times they seem to hold better - probably because the gas warms up when its compressed/decompressed</techybit>
  19. Gold badges can be purchased from Ebay or other places, not special, just nice looking on the right colour car. Mine has them (2 tone gold paint) and look good, probably wouldnt look as good on another colour. Dave
  20. OK, I have emailed them and asked if they will fit MKII MKII and MKIV, soon as I hear, I'll repost and (assuming they will fit) The New Strut Gang can be formed!!!! If not, how many MKII's are there out there requiring struts? When ordering one, I might as well order more if required Dave
  21. PS I did get in touch with the supplier and they are willing to post to the UK. Chris Thanks Chris you are a star. You are always coming to the rescue of one of us!
  22. Hi Dave, My bonnet struts had also gone on my '93, I was going to replace them before I bought a bargain price MK4 off ebay absolutely perfect, FSH etc. but you don't want to know about that. The struts I was going to use were from a USA source and were universal ones that would fit LS's, I think they were approx $15 a pair. I recall seeing this on a Lexus maintainance website but can't remember which one, though I am sure someone else will know, or a quick google search will come up with it. The posting also had full fitting instructions and the suppliers details as well as the correct part numbers. From reading other owners postings it would that these are beginning to fail due to age, so it might make sense for individuals to club together with a bulk purchase? I've just had another look for it without success, but it is there somewhere, good luck. Regards, Chris Vince Chris Yes I saw the same a few years back before mine went wrong and I havent been able to find it since (always the way) either, but for the few times I need it open I have a 3 foot length of 2x1 that does an admirable job Maybe if somebody knows of the parts they could post. Cheers Dave
