  1. That's a lot less that I was expecting, good to see. One thing that caught my eye however is the radiator part code "16400-38H10", I believe I'm correct in saying that's that's a different code to the "16400-38210" that came on the cars? If so then hopefully Lexus/Toyota just decided to randomly change the part number for no reason because if they revised the part without issuing a recall for a potential transmission killer that's really lame. *EDIT* Yup, 16400-38210 shows as replaced by 16400-38H10 in multiple parts databases.
  2. This is an interesting issue if it's as apparently as common as it appears (obviously it's a very small sample size but then so was ISF sales lol). The strange thing is this isn't an abnormal design Lexus are using, having the ATF cooler inside the engine radiator is basically the standard layout on every auto car made in the past 40 years, the only differences being some also have an external cooler too. You would have to assume it's an age issue not a mileage issue or this would have exploded on US forums years ago, and the only way this contamination can occur is if the cooler inside the rad has corroded, that obviously shouldn't happen especially when using OEM coolant. If I remember right the ISF uses a unique radiator (nothing else in the Toyota database appears to use that part number) which would go some to explain why other second gen IS owners don't seem to be reporting the same issue. TBH this sounds a lot like a design/production problem with the OEM ISF radiator itself, but strange that you don't hear much about it on US/Aus forums, maybe the early UK cars got a bad batch of rads /shrug.
  3. Would it not be easier to look if the engine coolant has oil in it? The leak would be a two way street.
  4. Actually he's quite right, the UK's minimum of 95 RON fuel is high compared to most countries, generally speaking in Europe you get three grades: Regular Unleaded fuel which is 91 RON, Premium Unleaded fuel which is 95 RON and Super Unleaded fuel which is 97 RON and higher. This is the reason UK pumps only have premium and super unleaded, which often causes confuses as people refer to the lower grade as regular despite regular being an actual grade that is never sold in the UK. The reason for the lack of the Regular 91 RON fuel in the UK is because our cars were historically run on rich leaded fuel like 4 star or 5 star, when the switch to unleaded came in there was no point introducing regular grade unleaded when it was incompatible with every car in the country, so only the Premium and Super standards were implemented in this country.
  5. Hi guys, having trouble with my boot release, it's not working under power. I have made sure the switch in the glove box is set right, however nothing. The release button by the steering column, the release button on the boot and the boot release button on the key all do nothing. But the key can open the boot so it's mechanically functional, however I'm guessing either the power isn't getting to the actuator or the actuator isn't working? The fuel flap button works fine and I would guess they share the same fuse? Any ideas would be appreciated.
  6. I could be wrong, but I believe that was/is the owners car. I bought my ISF from there last July and I remember his being black with Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
  7. Disposable products are generally cheaper yes 😛 OBX started out making parts for Hondas but had to branch out once word of their "reliability" got around the Honda scene, generally speaking if their manifolds weren't trustworthy on a 2.2L VTEC in 2008 they're unlikely to be trustworthy on a 5L V8 in 2019 😛
  8. Hi all, basically as title do they fit? I know the 18" spider ones do as I've seen pics of that but unsure if all 3rd gen 18" GS wheels fit or just those optional ones. Asking as I want to get my winter setup ready in advance.
  9. Not sure about the IS but on the LS the badge itself wasn't part of the radar system, Lexus just showed it as the transmitter/dish in their brochures/vids for simplicity. The radar style badge just denoted that the car had a radar unit (was in the lower side of the bumper on the LS, not sure about the IS).
  10. I use Premium 95RON fuel as that's what the manual says the car is designed for, anything more would be wasted money. Obviously MPG would be better when using an ethanol free super grade fuel however the increased cost of the fuel eclipses the minute saving in MPG. It's worth noting that unlike in the rest of the EU and over in north America, you can't actually buy low grade fuel in the UK, petrol stations here are prohibited from selling regular unleaded as it doesn't meet British Standards for unleaded fuel. Our options are either Premium unleaded (95RON), Super unleaded (97/98RON) or specialist fuels that meet/exceed either of those standards (I.E Vpower, Momentum, etc).
  11. I don't post much here but as one of the few people to have owned a MKIII Supra (1JZ-GTE), MKIV Supra (2JZ-GTE) and an ISF I may have some useful info. The MKIII Supra (at least the twin turbo variant) actually has an external ATF cooler in addition to the one integrated into the radiator, I can't remember off hand if the Turbo does but I don't believe the N/A does. As for the MKIV Supra the export (non-JDM) model (only available as a twin turbo) has an additional external ATF cooler (as well as a diff cooler). In both cases Toyota chose weather or not to fit an extra cooler depending on how hard/long they expected the car to be driven. To be honest though (I don't mean to come off dismissive of Connors issue here, that really sucks as does the way Lexus treated him) this really isn't something worth worrying over, it's on the level of "should I get my roof armour plated in case of meteorites?". Cooling the ATF by running it through a cooler integrated in the radiator has been the standard way of doing it on pretty much every automatic car produced in the last 30-40 years. It makes the cooler less vulnerable to damage (stones/etc) and it will outlive the radiator itself multiple times over. Yes you do hear of the occasional failure but unless there's an issue with the coolant then any failure can pretty much be attributed to a manufacturing defect and you can get that with external coolers too.
  12. Hi, so over the past days I've had this reoccurring issue, it affects both of my key fobs and I have put new batteries in each to no avail. Sometimes when I try to get into the car with the key in my pocket it wont open via the keyless entry, but if I take out the fob and hold it against the window the red light flashes and I can then put my fingers on the handle and it will work. Likewise sometimes when I get out the car and tap the black button on the handle to lock it nothing happens, if I try holding the key to the window as above and trying when it flashes the car instead beeps at me and refuses to lock (have to use the physical key). Any ideas? :S Thanks
  13. Hi, my father has been unable to use his 2006 GS300 for some time due to illness and the battery discharged as a result, I took the battery out and recharged it but when I try and reconnect it the alarm goes off as soon as I connect the negative terminal, I tried pressing the unlock button on the fob and holding it but no joy I have to disconnect the battery to stop it :(
  14. Thanks guys, yeah I was considering the torque wrench, when I get it what torque should the nuts be at?
  15. Hi, does anybody know the part number for a wheel stud for a 2002 LS430? I sheared one of mine by over tightening a wheel nut :( Also is this a case of don't move it until it's fixed? or is it okay to drive around town with a stud out? (obviously the other 4 are all fine) and what about dual carriageway use (40 min trip at 70 to get to college). I have no idea what margin of safety Lexus engineered into this, thank you.
  16. As far as I know all LS430 years use the same sets of spring or air shocks, it didn't change again until the LS460.
  17. I researched this a while back as I plan on keeping my LS a long time but don't fancy £1k+ a corner suspension replacement. You basically have two options, either use OEM Lexus LS430/Toyota Celsior shocks/springs which will cost you about half as much as air shocks per corner, or buy a set of LS430 coilovers like the BC racing or Tein ones. In either case you simply swap out the air shocks for the spring ones, rmeove the fuse for the air compressor, and all's done (the car will forever think its in high mode however, but no VSC problems). From what I have read the aftermarket shocks can have their dampening adjusted between Lexus GS/BMW 5 series softness (so firmer than a LS430 as standard) down to iron girder hardness, the standard LS430 spring/shocks feel like a spring/shock LS400.
  18. Grom audio make an adapter that piggy backs to the CD changer connection and allows the use of USB sticks with MP3 and has an AUX line in. It lets you still use the CD changer or itself and if your LS has steering audio controls they still work fine.
  19. Thanks everyone, it was obscured by an LPG hose running over it :)
  20. You can actually get wraparound stalks, which would bolt onto the left stalk and provide an additional stalk on the right to control it. To qualify for mobility you need to be on higher rate DLA/PIP and have a problem either with your legs or with both arms, one isn't enough sadly.
  21. I asked about that when I first got my LS430 as I don't have hand so its a bit awkward, was told you can replace the UK stalks with Australian ones (indicators on the right), Japanese ones have them on the correct side too but have something different about the stalks (can't remember what). I wish Toyota/Lexus had continued putting RHD indicators on their UK cars, I can understand the EU/US companies just using the LHD ones to make things easier for themselves but Toyota use RHD indicators on the RHD cars in their own domestic market :(
  22. Sadly the UKDM Lexi have the indicators on the left so you can't drive them one handed
  23. ....Where is it /blush (2002 LS430)
